Our flight arrives at 10am, but can't check in until late afternoon. Can we leave our luggage with the front desk until check in? Will it be safe or left for anyone to go through? What would be an appropriate tip to give for this service?

    Thank you

First off, you may well be able to checkin. In fact, with a 10am arrival, I would guess you will be fine. Depends on how busy the hotel is, day of week, etc. Hotels give that late afternoon time to protect from people expecting earlier rooms. If they have one, you will get it. There was a long thread about this a few weeks ago and many have checked in earlier in the morning.

No problem at all leaving your bags with the bell desk if room is not available.

As nostress said, it probably won’t be an issue unless it is a very busy weekend when you’re checking in.

Otherwise, take the bags to the bell desk. They’ll store them and bring them up to your room when you call them. I think +/- $2 per bag is the standard tip. It used to be that you would tip the guy that brings them to your room. But these days, everyone has their hand out. I figure it isn’t a good idea to piss off the guy that will be holding my stuff, so I relent and tip both times – but always more to the guy that has to do actual work and bring the bags to my room.

Your bags will be safe, but that certainly doesn’t mean that you should leave wads of cash in the bags you leave with them. No sense in tempting anyone.

Two years ago we arrived at MC at 9:30am. Left main luggage at bell desk and kept our backpack/carry on with us which had our valuables in it (cash, cameras, jewelery, etc). We also packed swim suits in them and were able to change at restroom and hang at pool until room was ready. They took my cell # and called us when it was ready. If we needed anything out of the suitcase bell service would check out tag and lead us back to it and we tipped him a buck for helping us. Otherwise I tipped $2/bag when they delivered them. They were very helpful and there were no hassles.
