Will be traveling back and forth to see friends at other hotels. Is is safe for me to be on the monorail late at night? Or is it better to get a cab?

.. in my opinion, the end on the north side lands at the convention center, i'd avoid that one late at night if possible ..there is a large parking lot and the escalator is a small bit of a walk to the center ..

between mgm and harrahs/ballys, no problem, esp the mgm, the escalator goes right down into the hotel ..those are safe

    .. $$

Last summer and fall the wife and I used the MR quite a bit going from MGM station to Harrah's station.
A couple of times we went to late shows and the Harrah's station was a little scary ( no one around ) late at night. If I were you I'd probably catch a cab late night.

I have never encountered a problem on a monorail train or platform, probably because it costs money to be in either of those places so it keeps the riff-raff out. Getting to the platform is where I would be nervous. The most isolated are Sahara and Convention Center at night. The others should be fine.

I agree. On the platform or train, you're fine. Late night near the north end can feel a bit sketchy. Last October, a young friend and I (her first time in Vegas) were trouing the north end. She wanted to go in the giant gift shop and by the time we left, it was dark. We made our way to the Sahara Station, but not without crossing paths when some sketchy characters

Yes, safe. Been there, done that, many times.

I would echo the concern, however, about venturing away from the Monorail stations at the north end (formerly Sahara) and Convention Center in the wee hours alone. All of the other stations are well-traveled and are right on the property of busy hotels and casinos.

You should be ok. There are some others riding late night also so you are not really alone. There are also cameras all over the station and pathways. I have never got off any of the stations mentioned above so I cant say about them. at worst case you might find a group of drunks(partiers)...but what else is new in vegas.

The Monorail is located behind the hotels

It is a long walk to get to the monorail platform from each hotel.

I go to Vegas by myself and it is spooky when I am the only one walking to
the back of the hotel by myself and I don't see other people either during the
    day.
It is best just to pay $7.00 for a all day/night bus pass. That is what I do.

I agree. Some of the monorail stations are too isolated and it costs more than the bus.

    Generally, okay.

    How late?
    What route?

Nostresshere- I think just one night from the Bellagio to Mgm - so one station after a show/dinner about 11:30 pm.

You could also take the tram from Bellagio to Monte Carlo (is it still running at 11:30?) and walk across the street to MGM. That route will be very well traveled.

I've never heard of safety problems on the monorail ... I'd only be concerned about the Sahara stop late at night.

But if all you want is Bellagio to MGM, the monorail probably isn't worth the money. You'll end up doing nearly as much walking as you would do anyway and paying for it to boot (the Bellagio is set back from the strip, and the monorail set back on the other side, so you'd walk to the strip, cross, walk all the way through to a station, and then walk back into MGM from its station.

If you're in a hurry, a cab for that should be fine. If you're not, tram + walking shouldn't really take that long.

The monorail makes the most sense if you are traveling more stops and/or avoiding summer heat and/or have a starting point and destination on the same side of the street as the monorail.

I had no problems going solo on the monorail last month. I only went as far as the Harrah's/IP stop though. Not sure I'd ventured any farther north alone.

I have ventured the north alone at night...and I would not do it again. Not as a solo woman, NO.

Safety may be there but ANXIETY is high. Sketch does not begin to describe how I feel walking to Stratosphere from Sahara station at night. In fact, the more busy it is, the more it freaks me out. And when it's kinda isolated, well...let's forget about that too.

Imperial Palace to MGM is great for all times. Going north at night (for a solo woman) is not right.
