Is it a good idea (ie. saves money) to book a standard room and then pay for the upgrade at check in? Or does it not make a difference vs just pre booking the room? I'm planning a Wed-Sat trip in Oct so it seems that the risk factor of the suite being sold out would be low due to the fact 2 out of the 3 nights would be mid week. Thx!

Depends on how bad you want the suite. Even on a Wednesday, there is no guarantee that you wil be able to upgrade. The tower suites there are awesome. Good luck.

We booked a 2 bedroom penthouse suite at the mirage over a month and a half ago, Arriving next thursday, Now they are fully booked and have no suites avail.
I'd say book what you really want, that way you know your getting what you want.

We have been offered an upgrade twice at check in. Both times we were offered a tower suite for an additional $50 a night. Took them up on the offer once and it was well worth the money. They are beautiful, bathrooms to die for! Heading there this Friday and will see what we can do. I would say if you are set on the suite, book it now, if you want to gamble ;-) wait till you get there. Good luck!

I stayed in the Tower Suite yesterday. It was by far the nicest Suite that I've stayed in ever. The bathroom is immaculate, the TV pops out of the stand in front of the bed, the bar area. the closets, the living area are awesome.

I typically get upgraded to a suite because I organize a 50 person conference once a year in Vegas. I've gotten the suite upgrades at Paris (Le Mans), TI (Jr. Suite), Palms (Jr. Suite) and MC (Monaco Suite) and this year at the NYNY (Marquis Suite). The Tower suite at The Mirage put each of those to shame.
