I'll be going out November 23-28 or 24-29 (Saturday - Thurs or Sun-Fri) which is the week of Thanksgiving. Both places are offering roughly the same basic rates to me, but I'm waiting on offers to drop for fall.

    Pros -
    Mirage
    Close to Wynncore and Caesars
Much cheaper/better chance of a Tower Suite Upgrade (paid or tipped)
I like the casino a little better
I took a liking to the place this last trip
We will be going to Love this trip

    MGM Grand
It's on my list of places to stay
    I like staying new places
    Recently renovated Grand King rooms
    Good food selection

    Cons -
    Mirage
Small rooms and bathrooms if we don't upgrade
Lack of quick food options on property
Location is a little North of center
    I've stayed there once already

    MGM Grand
    Large and daunting
Gambling isn't as good for my level of play
Pretty far south and I hate the stretch from MGM to PH to walk
A true 2-room suite (which we've spoiled ourselves with) will be much harder to obtain.

I have leanings toward each, so I'm still debating which way I should go. Input is appreciated!

I try to eat at Picasso every Thanksgiving weekend (I've been going fairly regularly the last few years, either Friday-Tuesday, or Thursday-Monday if I can't deal with my family on Thanksgiving proper, staying at either Bellagio or Aria), and Stack is one of my favorite restaurants in Vegas, so I'd probably go with Mirage. Their sportsbook might be preferable for Thanksgiving football watching, too, if you're into that. Overall, Mirage strikes me as a bit smaller and quieter than MGM, which is something I like over Thanksgiving weekend.

    This, This and This.

If you don't plan on leaving the property (or will exclusively drive - never walk on the Strip), I'd stay at MGM.

Most people do want to explore the strip and Mirage is in the best area of the strip (Wynn/Encore, TI/Mirage, Venetian/Palazzo, Caesars/Bellagio).

The near mile between MGM and Strip civilization (Planet Hollywood/Cosmo through Encore/Fashion Show Mall) is very unpleasant to walk through.

I would always stop by MGM when staying on the strip but the past few trips I haven't bothered.

Mirage all the way for me. I just like that property and continue to enjoy my stays there. The lack of a quick meal is solved by crossing over to the food court between Harrah's and Casino Royale. Cal Pizza Kitchen is good for a pie to-go if you want a quick bite up in the room, and I've always enjoyed BLT Burger.

As for the walk North from MGM, I find it much more enjoyable to cross over to NYNY, then through the Monte Carlo which connects to Aria. From there you can head through Crystals Mall and be at Cosmo in no time.

I stayed 2 nights at each place on a trip a couple of years ago and liked certain things about each. However, I haven't returned to MGM since, but have to the Mirage a few times. I guess I just liked it better.

In the end though, it's all about personal preference...

Mirage. I enjoy MGM, but it's really a pain in the butt to leave MGM.

I enjoy the casino better at MGM, and I like South/Center strip properties better. But I mean overall they are pretty comparable properties. Also you said Mirage is cheaper.. I would go with that.

I went that time last year and it was extremely dead in Vegas. I paid $10 to stay at the Flamingo haha, so I'm sure you can score a deal.

Well, the price difference is negligible. The difference I was referring to was the ease of an upgrade to a "room of the same caliber." At mirage a Tower Suite is a pretty easy get for $50/night or less. Unless I'm mistaken it looks like that same level of room would be more costly.

Mirage for me. I love the center strip location and if you want cheap eats you can easily walk outside and walk directly across the street.

I've never been a fan of the MGM. I have not stayed there either. The only hotel I like down at that end is Mandalay Bay.

I was at MGM last Thanksgiving. The whole week the place was crawling with families with small children. Some places were closed the days before Thanksgiving.

    Me, I'd go to Mirage.

Large, daunting, you hate the stretch of walk from there to center... those are reasons enough to not put up with MGM. It is a great place, but those reasons alone will probably dent your enjoyment of the vacation a little.

I agree the Mirage bathrooms are too small, but do you have a wife coming along?
