    My Trip Report

Not a mini "trip report", but a "mini-trip" report. My official trip starts next weekend. But in my research for the trip I found that Dennis DeYoung and the music of Styx would be playing at the Freemont Experience on the weekend BEFORE my trip! Styx has been my favorite band for about 30 years now. I'm not really into the whole celebrity worship thing but Dennis Deyoung would be like a God to me if I was.

So... I decided to drive from Ramona (San Diego area) to Vegas just for the concert. Unfortunately I waited too long and rooms became extremely scarce. $120 a night for a fleabag hotel. I just needed a place to crash for a few hours before driving back home. I did not consider driving back after the concert because if I drive while tired this happens:

So I went cheap... as in free. Here's my room:

    And my bed:

I've slept in a lot of hotels for work and vacation. I would rate the comfort of this bed as very much above average.

Back to the trip... I went directly to Circus Circus to check out the Chuck Jones Experience. I dig animation so I found it interesting but it was fairly limited. Could have used a lot more videos running with his cartoons. If you are into the old cartoons or animation in general it is probably worth the $15 (with coupon) but I would skip it otherwise.

I wanted to try and grab a bite to eat but it was already getting pretty late so I headed downtown. I got there around 8pm and the show started at 9pm. There was already a ring of people lining the barrier around the VIP section in front of the stage. Directly in front of the stage it was a few layers deep. So I pulled up to a section of the barrier that was inset to the VIP section, looking like it would eventually be moved. 10 minutes later they pushed people back and moved the barrier out and I essentially stood in one spot and let them place the barrier right in front of me.

It wound up being an excellent spot because the people in the VIP section croweded the stage, leaving a large gap in the crowd directly in front of me. Great show. Definitely worth the trip! I took a few short videos here and there and put them together:

Afterwards I got a quick bite at the Mexican place in the Plaza and headed for an undisclosed location to get some sleep. Overall, a most excellent trip. I'm even considering doing the same thing when Dee Snider is there.

I would have loved to have been there for this! Looked like a great time and STYX brings back many memories. I also want to see Skid Row and Warrant but, unfortunately, the shows are the weekend before we get there. Boo!

Thanks for posting the video. Boy, that brought back memories, for me, from their (STYX) concert in 1981. I really wanted to be there to see him, but hubby said, "no." Oh well, time to listen to my CDs.

He sounds very good and has an instantly recognizable voice.

Just got back from downtown this weekend, but I wanted to check out Night Ranger for a song or 2.

Maybe someone will check it out and report back. :peace:

Very nice mini-trip. Nice bed. Looks comfy. :wink2:

Did you notice a gift shop in relation to the Chuck Jones Experience?
We're going next week and hope to pick up a souvenir or two.

Yup. Good sized gift shop. My wife likes Marvin Martian so this caught my eye:

    $10,500

They had a nice Marvin Martian t-shirt. Just a t-shirt... no collar... not a polo shirt... just a t-shirt. $40. I told the wife about it. Guess what I'll be buying when I go back to Vegas this weekend?
