    My Trip Report

The day finally arrives and we are packed, ready to take on Vegas! We arrive at the airport in plenty of time, I hadn't told mom that I upgraded us to first class. She was shocked when they said boarding First Class and I told her that was us. On the plane I convinced mom to have a few drinks and we kicked off the trip in style. The persons sitting in front of us were from the same town I live in and we had a good chat along the way. When we landed and deplaned I could feel the Vegas vibe instantly, here we are Vegas!! Our driver was waiting for us at the bottom of the escalator and as we only had carry on luggage it was a quick walk to the car and off the MGM we went.

I wasn't sure if I was to use VIP check in so went to the invited guest line where we found out our room wasn't ready for us and that we were coded for VIP and could check in there later. We headed into the casino to wait for our room and my host came over and introduced himself and said he would check on the room for us. He was gone about 5 minutes came back and told us it was ready and we could go on into VIP and get fully checked in. We got an executive queen suite facing NYNY it was a nice view and quiet room. Mom and I quickly unpacked and headed off to try and make some money in the casino.

My offer: $450FP, $150FB, 3 nights comped executive queen suite
Moms offer: $175 FP, $75 FB, 2 nights comped.
They combined our offers for 4 nights in the executive queen suite and we each got our FP and FB.

    Sunday:

Superbowl fever was definitely felt wherever you were in the casino. We sat and watched the game from various TV’s from the slots. Seemed to be a whole lot of Patriots fans about, being from BC we were rooting for Seattle and were saddened to see that interception; but, really WTF how did that happen! I’m not a big football fan but shook my head in awe at that play but good on the Patriots!

The machines were not kind to me it was like running water through the machines literally! I was tired at 8pm and seemed like it was a good time to head to bed as things didn't seem to be going my way today anyhow.

Food: We used our MyVegas dinner buffet at the MGM – I don’t know if it was due to all the Superbowl parties or not but the buffet was a letdown. I will pass on this in the future and was glad it was free. The selection was very small, vegetables were overcooked, salad bar was underwhelming and overall I had a hard time finding something that looked appetizing.

    Monday

    Luxor:
A couple of my favorite cocktail waitresses work here and one will be retiring later this year so I had to make a trip over to see her as it could be the last time before she retires. While here I text my Luxor host to say hello; we have a great relationship and have become quite good friends over the years. She comes over and says to me I ran over to buffalo and you weren't there! Then she tells me that I gave her a bit of a scare as she thought she might have forgotten we were coming in; we all had a good chuckle over that. We chit chat for about half an hour, she invited us to lunch but declined as we had just had breakfast.

We walked and gambled a bit at Luxor, Excalibur, NYNY and Monte Carlo today. I broke even at the Luxor, Excalibur and NYNY; but, Monte Carlo wasn't so nice.

    Food:
MGM: Avenue Café – Breakfast menu has the basic choices available, atmosphere was fair and we enjoyed our food. I think breakfast is the easiest meal to prepare so it’s really hard to mess it up in my eyes.

Monte Carlo: The Pub – MyVegas reward $50 that I chose to use at the pub. We thoroughly enjoyed this meal and enjoyed the atmosphere. We had calamari to start, I had the burger and mom had a beef dip. It wasn't busy and the servers were very helpful when we asked questions about the menu. If the opportunity arises I would eat here again.

    Tuesday

I woke up at 5:30am! UGH, why do I work when I’m here? Showered and ran down for a coffee then worked until noon. During the daytime I wasn't doing badly on the machines, go down a $100 and up $100 it seemed to give me a bit more play through than the past few days. I found a buffalo that got me up over $300, when I felt it wasn't going to give anymore I decided to cash out and head on over to the Majestic Lions. I love these machines they just don’t seem to show me much love, at least not yet. I put in my TITO and at first wasn't hitting a thing and down under $200 in no time before it decided to start giving me back bits, I did hit $300 and played for a bit longer trying for that JP before cashing out at $200.

    Food:

MGM: Avenue Cafe– Lunch menu is safe, there isn't anything really special on it. I grabbed the turkey burger, it was bland and dry. Mom enjoyed she had the frisco melt and said it was really good.

NYNY: NFI - MyVegas $25 NFI - I've always enjoyed NFI and am glad it’s a reward. Ordered up the herbed seared chicken and drunken apple cake (I think that is what it’s called) it was good! We were seated about 8pm right in front of the stage and were told we could sit there through the live music that started at 9pm because we were eating. My mom really enjoyed this, I was ready to get my gamble on after I had eaten and had a few drinks. Mom was really enjoying the music and reminisced of her party days.

    Wednesday

I woke up as I was supposed to work at 7am, MGM had signs of internet maintenance that was supposed to be completed at 5am, and it was 7 am and NO INTERNET! My shifts are scheduled and I was sitting here with no internet and having to contact someone to let them know they need someone to cover my shift. I was not a happy camper and all I could think of is: do I want to gamble today if this is how my day is starting off!?!

At about 9am I decided I can’t sit in the room any longer and decided to head down even though I wasn't sure I should start gambling. I’m all about the positive vibes and really didn't feel they were there; but no internet and in a room with boring TV what else was I supposed to do? I dropped $300 quite quickly on all kinds of machines, the mojo just wasn't there. It was time to try and find my mom in this monstrous casino, which isn't so bad but finding mom can be, she moves around a lot and gets turned around so easily. After circling the entire casino a few times I found her, she didn't seem to be hitting anything either. We decided to head off for a bite to eat. After lunch I went back to the room for a bit. Checking the internet connection soon as I got back and it was finally back! I decided to check in for the flight home and there were upgrades available so to try and change the mojo I decided to bump up to first class as there were upgrades available. I love Alaska’s $50 upgrade!

When I went back down things started out much better. I jumped on bierhaus II and played that for a long time, hit 15 spins, 50 spins, 5 a few times and ended up cashing out $50, I should cash out when I’m up but I was having fun finally and it seemed to be keeping me going for a bit. Gambling is all about fun and if it’s enjoyable I tend to sit and spin. There was a wonder 4 machine with a game that is similar to Pompeii that I played on minimum bet ($1 for the 4 games) and it hit the bonus feature then during the feature I hit a re-trigger but with the 3x and 5x on it for $187 on a quarter! I was shaking my head on min. bet?! Oh well it was a great hit and I should be happy. I boosted the bet and got the bonus all 5 symbols with the “super free games” feature. I was hopeful that I would make some serious coin now that I was playing bigger and triggered this on all 4 games and I won a whopping $12.50 over and above the trigger payout, it was sad but there was that potential! Timber wolf was hot and I cashed out $300 on it after playing for about an hour, it was giving me bonus after bonus not paying much on the bonus but was entertaining. It’s always enjoyable when you can trigger the bonus a lot, keeps you entertained even if the bonus isn't paying much it is nice to sit and enjoy the wee bits flowing in.

Mom came looking for me and wanted to take a break and was turned around so I took her to the room and she had a nap. After a couple hours of rest she finally got up and we headed back to the casino for our last blast for the trip. I must have played every penny machine in the MGM today, and it was my old faithful favorites that paid me the best. I enjoy the older machines buffalo, timber wolf, miss kitty, pelican pete, quick hits, three kings majestic lions. The newer machines infuriate me so I tend to avoid them, they make a lot of noise for those supposed big wins, $10 is not a big win if I’m betting a $1, it’s insulting making all that noise for $10.

I stayed up until 1am mainly playing a buffalo machine near the lobby. When I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer I cashed out and headed to bed.

    Food:

MGM:Food court for a quick lunch

MGM: Wolfgang Pucks – I had the papparadelle and enjoyed it very much. Mom had the shrimp scampi linguine and said it was really good.

    Thursday

Woke up, quickly packed and got ready to head down to play some pointplay before leaving. I put on $50 FP on a Buffalo machine and on the first spin hit 4 gold coins. The bonus kept re-triggering and paying little bits, it ended up being just over $200 on max bet, I’ll take that I’m heading home today! I finished the other $48 in this machine and made another $58. This was better than the FP I put through VP during this trip, I think I might have to rethink my FP strategies.

Checking out was a breeze, and since mom didn't offer to use any of her EC’s to cover the extra FB we charged to the room I ended up using mine. The driver that took us to the airport was nice and chatty, we had a great conversation and mom tipped (win for me!). Our flight was early getting into Bellingham and we were home sooner than anticipated.

Ughhh, sux to have to work on vacation....a blessing that wifi was down :)
I hadn't been to the MGM buffet in years but went in Dec during NFR which had the added bonus of "event pricing" which is code for raise the price. Food was honestly no better than the $5.99 breakfast buffet at Gold Coast. Last visit to that buffet.
    Love the Buffalo!

It most certainly does suck to work on vacation. On my last job before retirement on back-to-back trips mandatory internet training sessions were held after I had my trip scheduled, airfare paid for, and arrangements made at home. One training started at 8:00am Minnesota time, 6:00am Vegas time, and lasted over 4 hours. What a ruination of a couple of vacation days.
