My wife and I will be in Vegas in July. My sister and her family will be staying at the MGM Grand for a convention. I am trying to decide between staying at the MGM Grand or the MGM Signature. Price is virtually the same for a Signature deluxe suite vs. a standard king room at MGM Grand.

We will attend just one event at the convention but do plan to use a pool with my sister's family on a couple of days. My wife and I both like to use a decent gym. I gamble and plan to spend a good bit of time at the tables. My wife does not gamble and may spend at least a few waking hours in the room alone. Both of us are active and do not mind a walk.

I guess it comes down to this question: Are the rooms and amenities of the Signature worth making the trip to MGM Grand at least a few time each day?

The Signature is very nice. The only "drawback" as far as I'm concerned is that yes, it's a bit of a walk to the casino/strip. If you don't mind that you'll enjoy it there.

My wife and I stayed at the Signature for a week last July and really liked it...quieter than the MGM but only a five minute walk away...has its own gym and a quiet pool for each tower...Starbucks in tower1 where we stayed and a small restaurant for breakfast or lunch in tower 2...also close to the MGM main pool complex which is huge...if you want to walk to the Miracle Mile shops, or out onto the strip, you can go down Harmon and save yourself some time...rooms are not brand new but very clean, in good condition, spacious and well-appointed...was given a room upgrade upon check-in without even asking...we would stay there again...

Signature I'm a fan, staying there again. I like to go to the loud, crazy environments, and not have them come to me. I was very peaceful and I never minded the walk. In fact if I had dinner or show reservations anywhere, I just cabbed it. It's a tremendous deal and perfect if you're a hotel snob like me! OH and the kitchen! So great! My cab driver went shopping with me to the liquor store on my way to the hotel, filled my fridge with wine, vodka, and champagne.

Just stay at MGM, I just got back and that place is perfect now. Everything is new top to bottom and the rooms were beautiful! I don't see a reason not to stay there. Unless like said above you really want a super quiet environment...

I wouldn't want to add any more walking to MGM then you already have to! It's literally like a mile from the check in to the strip. And at the same price, it just doesn't seem worth it.

Dollar for dollar Sig rooms > MGM rooms.

Not a fan of the long walk but if this were my options I would definitely go with the Signature.

wow - pretty even split in advice.

Just spent some time on Google maps. It looks like - from the location of the Sig and the MGM hotel rooms on the properties, they are not really that far apart. Assuming you can walk easily from the Sig to the MGM, it looks like the Sig rooms are pretty close to the MGM pool complex and spa. In fact, if I can request Tower A, it is actually closer to the pools than the MGM rooms are.

What is the walk like from the Sig into the MGM? Is it inside or outside? Is it a well traveled area or would my wife feel unsafe walking alone there?

The walk is all indoors and yes, Signature rooms are nicer.
DO NOT be fooled by how close it looks on google. Its not that far, but seems like a hike (for me at least)...it kills the vibe of Las Vegas. I like coming down the elevator and being immersed in the casino, or a quick trip back up to the room for whatever and back down. Cannot do that at Signature.
Also, like someone mentioned above, the MGM Grand rooms are upgraded and very nice as well now.

You're right, the advice does look split. Which means you can't go wrong with either one! Just decide what's more important to you! I like the balcony, space, and elegance of Signature, but yes the other posters are correct, when you get of the elevator you don't feel like you are in Vegas. The MGM rooms are updated, and if you don't need a suite, stay at MGM. What's really nice is that you share the pools (although I don't think MGM can use Signature pools but the reverse is possible), either way I don't think you are going to miss a thing!

Stayed at MGM last year and as we got to the pool, noticed a few elevators that said they were for Signature. Not sure where or how they connect to Signature but you could be on the strip easily within 10 minutes from these if you use the West Wing exit or the escalators by Rainforest cafe. Also, those elevators are near an entrance to the monorail which is handy for making your way further up the strip.
