Be aware, pool hours in Vegas are always subject to change at a moment's notice......and frequently do.

    It doesn't always make sense.

I used to stay at the MGM almost exclusively (largely because of the outstanding pools). However, we have changed to a new summer hotel spot after several bad experiences. On weekends (which is when we are usually there) the lazy river is overrun with some shady characters. Late in the day, after the booze has been flowing, they get more and more aggressive. My wife got her crotch/breasts grabbed twice by random drunk guys when we were passing by on the lazy river. When I turned around to confront them I realized they were part of a large pack of fairly intimidating guys and I realized that starting a conflict wasn't going to end well for me. Sadly, other females in our group experienced similar incidents.

This could have been an isolated incident, but similar actions happened on two different trips, which was enough to cause us to look elsewhere. The lazy river is the best part of the MGM complex IMO--not being able to use it because of this type of activity was a bummer. It usually happened after 4 p.m., so just be aware if you are hitting up the lazy river with an attractive group of females.

Did you talk to the staff about this? I'm sure they'd want to know about it. No properties want that kind of reputation

No, there were like 8 guys standing there when I turned around to confront them after my wife explained what had happened (they reached underwater and grabbed her as we walked by). It happened a bit earlier when she walking a lap with her girlfriends, so I walked with her the second time and sure enough they did it again. It's difficult to explain their appearance without sounding judgmental, but let's just say I didn't want to cause any trouble. I'm 6'2, 220 pounds and not too far removed from a college football career. Typically, I would not back down from anyone, but these were definitely guys that I did not want to mess with.

Depends on what you mean by "best." For my wife and I, who love pools but couldn't care less about pool parties and crowds, it's Bally's, because it's one of the few DEEP pools left in Vegas. 12 feet at the deep end! That's one of the bitterest things for me to swallow about the modern strip: all these stupid waist-deep wading pools, limited to 3 or 4 feet because of liability insurance.

I snuck in to the Mirage pool while staying at Casino Royale two summers ago. Back then the staff had put a rolled towel on every unoccupied chaise, which allowed me to grab a towel without a room key check. I think they are the exception in policing 'saved' chairs, as most places are policing for guys in swim shorts who enter from the dolphin habitat and don't want to walk back into the casino soaking wet.

Totally love the MGM lazy river. Usually the other pools open at 9 and the lazy river opens at 10. Another reason we love it there is plenty of shade. If you want to sit in the sun that's fine and if you want shade its there also. That's been my complaint over the years many vegas pools you are just roasting in the sun all day with no relief.

If you let security know and they can try to review the security camera footage of that area. Grabbing the crotch or breasts of someone walking by is sexual assault.

Usually easy to find seating and not quite the madhouse it usually turns into on weekends after 1pm.

I want to stay at the properties with the nicest pools too so I can relate. Plus I'm a freak for the lazy river. MGM is great but in my opinion Mandalay Bay has the best pool complex in Vegas. But I got a trip coming up next week and we are staying at the MGM and have a cabana at the Mandalay Bay. So MGM is a good bet. Ha
