    My Trip Report

    Tuesday, June 1, 2004
Up at 4:30am for a 6:40am flight. (We stayed at an airport hotel Monday night so we did not have the 30 minute drive to the airport that early in the morning) We had to change planes in Atlanta each way, but since we were flying on free tickets, I really could not complain about the routing. We were about 20 or so minutes late arriving in Atlanta, and managed to make our connecting flight with about 10 minutes to spare. Very uneventful flight from Atlanta to Vegas. Arrived in Vegas about 11:30am. I went and checked in to MGM Grand while DH grabbed the luggage. Did not try to upgrade, as we were booked in a Bungalow King Suite, and were happy with that. Check in agent was nice and asked if I minded waiting about an hour for a room, because it had a better view. That was fine with me. We went and got our rental car from Avis, and ended up getting an upgrade, so we were able to get a Mustang Convertible. Of course, when DH found out that one of the choices of color was orange, he jumped at it. LOL Most of the valet's had commets about having the only orange vehicle in the lot.
Since the room was not ready, we decided to cruise the strip. We were in AWE. This was our first, but definately not our last trip to Vegas. We drove down past the Stratosphere and then back up to MGM. We went back to MGM, and our room was ready, so we put the luggage up. We were in room 13-306. Not a far walk from the elevators and had a wonderful view of the NYNY roller coaster.
We were starving as we had had doughnuts before going to the airport and pretzels on the plane. We walked over to NYNY and ate at America. It was pretty good. DH had a burger and I had a mushroom and swiss omelet.
We then walked down to Walgreens and got some Cokes and bottles of water.
Went back up to the room and rested for a while.
We walked over to Excalibur and took the tram to Mandalay Bay. Walked around there and then took the tram to Luxor. Walked around Luxor and then walked back to Excalibur. We then decided to walk down to Paris. (We should have gotten the car...it was torture walking back to MGM) Stopped and did the shops at Aladdin, and saw the rainstorm. Went to Paris, walked around, and then went up in the tower. It was dark by this time, and it was awesome. We got to see parts of the Bellagio show from up in the tower. I did not realize the shows were every 15 minutes and we ended up going down before the next show started. Saw part of the show from the sidewalk in front of Paris.
Walked back toward MGM and stopped at Fatburger to eat. It was ok. I thought my burger was a little on the "crispy" side. We never did see and In and Out Burger. I got a Fatburger with cheese and skinny fried, and DH got the larger burger with fat fries.
Back to the room for the night.

I got up early and drove to Curves for my 30 minute workout. (about 3-4 miles each way from MGM) I stopped at Starbucks at MGM and grabbed breakfast on my way back up to the room. We then went to NYNY to get our all day pass for the roller coaster. We were on the first train of the day. We rode it 3 times in a row, and decided we had enough of the bobble head action, and would go back in the evening.
Got the car and drove down to the Sahara. We signed up for their players club, and got their coupon book. We got the all day pass for Speed and the race cars. Rode Speed twice and then raced the cars. By this time, I must have been getting dehydrated because I felt awful. We at lunch at Nascar Cafe. (I had a burger and DH had a meatball sandwich) Played a few more slots and then got the car and went to Stratosphere. Since I was still not feeling right, I opted out of the rides, and just went up in the tower. DH got tickets for High Roller and X-Scream. He rode High Roller first and then rode X-Scream. He enjoyed it, and was glad he did not chicken out, like he first thought he would. We had misread the coupon for the Sahara buffet, and I thought it said $4 off per person, and not up to $4 off for 4 people. We were completely unimpressed with this buffet. Guess that is why it is fairly cheap to begin with. After we ate, we went back to the room to rest. Around dark, we drove down to Treasure Island, thinking we were going to be able to see Sirens. It was about 30 minutes before the show and it was about 15-20 people deep on the sidewalks. Decided to walk down to Mirage to see the volcano. We got there just as one show was ending, so we waited the 15 minutes for the next show and were able to get a front row spot. Walked around Treasure Island casino for a little while, and decided we did not feel like waiting for the 11pm ish Sirens show. We drove down to NYNY to play slots for a little while. We finally called it a night around midnight or so, after stopping for icecream on the way up to the room.

Drove to Paris and had the breakfast buffet. I loved it. We played slots for a little while, and then walked to Bally's and ended up getting the players card from there. Played slots for a little while, and then walked to Caesars. We were too early for the moving statues, and did not feel like waiting around. We walked over to Bellagio, got some gellato and stood right inside the doors and saw the 3pm fountain show. We then walked through Bellagio and "finally" found the Conservatory. We then walked back through Bally's to Paris. Decided to walk over to Aladdin to get their players club card and use the free magic trick (for DH) and free makeover (for me) coupons I had. Walked back to Paris, got the car, and went back to the room to rest. Later that evening, we went over to Luxor and got tickets for the IMAX ride film In Search of the Oblisk and also for the Virtual Reality Coaster. We wanted to see Pirates 4D, but we were 1 day too early. After the rides we went and ate at the buffet. We really enjoyed it, and definately felt like we got our monies worth. The only thing we were disappointed in were the cold shrimp. The were completely tasteless. DH was exhausted, and could not walk anymore. He went up to the room, and I stayed down and played slots for a little while. I was playing nickel slots, and cashed out $15 ahead. We called it a night around 11pm.

Since we wanted to be at the airport around 10:30am-11:00am for a 12:25pm flight, we decided to eat breakfast at the buffet at MGM. We were so disappointed. It was awful. We played the MASH 2 cent slots for a while and then back up to the room to get our luggage and check out. Stopped and got gas ($2.23 a gallon) and went to the airport. Decided to get something to eat, since you only get pretzels on the plane. Ended up getting a hot dog (I had to make it up to DH. He did not get a hot dog the entire trip.) It was the worst I have ever had. I took one bite and could not eat the rest. Uneventful flight from Vegas back to Atlanta. We were lucky that we were in a center and window seat, but no one ended up on the aisle, so I moved to the aisle seat, and we had the center seat open. We got to Atlanta, and were elated to find out that our gate was just one or two down. We had 1.5hrs, so we walked down a little way at got sandwiches for dinner. Went back to our gate, and about 5 minutes after we got there, they announced that we had been moved from gate 18 to gate 10, so the flight crew and all the passengers hike on down to gate 10. Well....our flight was not there yet. It finally arrives and they start asking for volunteers to give up their seats, as the flight is oversold. DH and I agree to give up our seats, but only if they will give us our luggage. After 20 or more minutes of waiting, and being told contradictory information, they finally say they cannot give us our luggage. (OH..but they "claim" our luggage will not go to New Orleans that night, it will be with us in the morning...yeah ..right...I belive that...NOT!!). We are about 45 minutes late pushing back from the gate. We end up being about 30 minutes late arriving in New Orleans.

We had a great time, wish we could have gone for longer. We will definately be back. There were so many things we did not get to see. Unless we can get some sort of unbeleivable deal at Bellagio or Paris, we will probably stay at NYNY next time. We seemed to like the feel of the place.

Tell me more about x-scream.. you sound like ride buffs...

The NYNY Coaster was great except was a little bumpy.. I am sure that was intended to give a Wooden coaster feel.. can't want to go on it again but am real leary about x-scream...

    any thoughts...

X-Scream----Even if I was feeling well, I would never get on it. DH almost did not ride it, but did and LOVED it. He rode the front seat. I guess if you are going to do it, you might as well do it "right".

The all day pass for NYNY coaster was around $25 per person. We did the $30 package which included a t-shirt (not the best, but not so bad that I won't wear it) and I think a discount on a picture (we did not use it).

We had a Bungalow King room at MGM. It was large and great. We were not constantly tripping over our stuff or anything.
