Staying at the MGM next weekend with a big group and everyone wants to know what mid shelf liquor is available for free during play. Most of us play $25 min tables but some are in the 50-100 range. I remember getting JW black at the aria consistently during my last trip. Probably dependent on tipping and level of play, but can I expect goose and woodfords range? Also I have heard that some casinos will swap what you ask for....is this a legitimate concern? Thanks for any additional tips as well

You will have no problem getting grey goose, Hennessey, Patron, etc. The lower tier casinos won't have such liquor usually, I think. You'll be fine at mgm

Tip at least a red chip and they will be back frequently

Yes they will usually swap what you order.

You will generally get well liquor on the floor no matter what you say.

Goose is no problem. Only place I can remember getting swapped was once at Caesars. I could taste it immediately and asked the CW to bring a new "Goose"...she did and every drink after that was as ordered.

The mansion makes the BEST bloody mary's with the bleu cheese stuffed olives.

I know my cognac and scotch. Aria and mgm both give me what i ask for. Im not sure what they serve on the main floor.

Plee actually got me hooked on fresh watermelon juice and vodka at aria i believe.

Same here. I was playing slots in the hl room at cp. I ordered Hennessey. I could tell from.the color when they brought it out. It was a light color. I almost threw up when I drank it. It was gross whatever they brought me

I can tell the difference between Patron and well tequila. Every time I have ordered Patron, at a casino that will serve it on the floor, I have gotten it. Sometimes they forget about the no salt, but its free, I make due. I have never had it swapped out for cheaper booze. If they cannot offer it, then I will just ask what tequilas they can offer and pick a silver one.

Will a server at least be honest with you if you order a brand of liquor and ask them if your getting that brand or a generic one?

Had my order for circo switched out at aria poker room for a lower end peach vodka. I never have that problem at the poker bars though.

When I tip the CW upfront, I always get what I ordered. When I don't, I usually don't get the brand name I specified.

Thanks for having this discussion. I wrote the article about liquor being swapped, and it's a huge problem nobody's really addressing, although I consider it a health issue beyond the obvious trust issue. The problem is many bartenders and waitresses know you're getting a generic, but they won't tell you, even when asked. If you say "Captain Morgan," they pour a generic "spiced rum," the worst kind of rot gut that can lead to nausea, headaches and worse. At first, I thought this was a problem with comp drinks, but have since learned just about everyone does this, and the more you pay attention, the more you realize how many casino guests are being duped. If you order a "Captain and diet" and any casino bar at Mandalay Bay, you'll be served one from a gun, which means you're not getting your call brand. Nobody says they don't have Captain, whether the drink is a comp or paid-for. They serve it. Always, always make sure you watch what's being poured and make sure it's from a bottle, not a gun. Many people avoid this problem by ordering bottled beer, of course. I consider this one of the biggest scandals in the history of Vegas, and the list of casinos that serve call liquor when ordered is very short. If you aren't loyal to a brand, or don't care what you're drinking, that's cool, but for me, this practice is fraud on a citywide scale.

This happened to me again on my past trip over July 4th weekend. Again, the only place that swapped me was Caesars. Only difference was it happened in the DL this time. Same drink as last time, Goose and Tonic. Got the same crap. Told the server it was not Goose. His response was they don't have Goose, just Kettle One. Total BS...that crap they gave me wasn't Kettle One either. It was 100% pure liquid hangover. As soon as the drink hit my tastebuds, I felt a sharp shooting pain on my forehead between my eyes. I knew at that moment, if I finished that drink, i would regret it.

Not positive on woodford reserve. I believe the rule is they comp any drink that would ring up $14, unless you are consistantly playing $5 VP then they would get the ok to comp you what you want. I was drinking Macallan 12 year at whiskey down on my last trip, when the new bartender came in he said that they would only comp the 10 year and that the previous bartender shouldn't have been giving me that but since he did, they kept honoring it. I would ask in advance just to make sure they do comp what you ask for. Also, PD not sure if you have been in Whiskey down, but there are only like 7 or 8 VP machines. So at busier times you will see a lot of people sit at the bar and don't even play
