Aug. 31, 2012. Some of the 200 pieces of World War I ammunition, which emerged from a melting glacier on a Trentino mountain peak. The 85-100 mm caliber explosive devices were found at an altitude of 3,200 meters, when a once-perennial glacier on the Ago de Nardis peak partially melted due to a recent heat wave that reached into Italy's highest peaks.
    For us non-metric people, that's 10,000+ feet.

That war was fought all over the earth.
    I just read a book about WW1 ---
    I wasn't aware of all the fighting zones ( everywhere ! )--
usually I think American Doughboys in France, only.
    .
    BTW,
It was an incredbile struggle to get all the weaponry
    up to those elevations.
