This may be one that our friends from Colorado or Washington State can answer from personal experience (legally, that is) or others may be aware of studies on the subject. Since the early days of Vegas gambling, casinos have provided free alcohol to players because they felt it was good for profits – people were more relaxed, perhaps their judgment was slightly impaired, and they gambled more. We all know the same policy exists today, indicating the early pioneers got things right from a business perspective. So I’m wondering what effect marijuana has on gambling behavior – will people spend more, less, or maybe it has no impact at all. If it’s similar to alcohol, and the legalization trend eventually hits Nevada, will cocktail servers someday be offering free drinks or reefers?

i doubt it. drinking helps people be more outspoken and willing to take risks. perfect for casinos.

people relaxing and getting deep in thought sort of goes the other direction.

I've gambled baked outa my mind before (only video keno) You stare at the screen for awhile, take 5 minutes to pick the right numbers, hit start, watch the numbers get drawn. Realize those numbers suck so spend another 5 minutes picking better numbers. His start again and so on.

Basically you're slow as hell and don't know what you're doing, great for my wallet, bad for casinos.

As long as they came around again with some microwaved-frozen burritos I'd be OK...

    From a Vegas Rex article,

“Even at the meeting, a Mandalay Bay security guy said, `Pot smokers don’t drink and gamble and that’s where we make our money. It’s bad for business.’”

Vegas Rex was to the point with his analysis:

What it doesn’t tend to produce in most people is violence, aggression, nor does it make most experienced people do anything they would not do if completely sober. In other words, pot is a casino’s worst enemy as it does not turn otherwise responsible people into drooling idiots with no recollection of what happened the night before.

If you get stoned in Vegas, it is unlikely that you will wake up broke with a bleeding butthole. Twenty beers, however, makes this scenario more likely … and really, that’s the fate that the cowardly Mandalay Bay desires for you.

I think as clubs and bottle service have taken a higher percentage of profit vs. gambling (in yesteryear comparisons) it would seem the dessert areas of the higher end buffets would be the new winners. Perhaps even an additional fee to access the dessert gourmets would work. A change in policy would even allow you to order food--not alcohol--to your machine / table game of choice for scratching of that itch.

Seriously, I don't see the use of smoke to increase loss of gambling inhibitions. It is a different effect. Perhaps if all members of the "party pit" were influenced it could be fun to watch from outside the action.......as dealers, pit critters, and players discussed the ins and outs of math in blackjack, pai gow, etc.

I ran a few trials to see if it could help me concentrate at Holdem, while I was waiting for a spot I played some Paigow. I have been playing Paigow for more than 10 years and had never set a hand wrong. That night I set two hands incorrectly. Experiment failed.

I have some brilliant ideas whilst stoned. I think. I don't remember. Yo, pass it.

Seriously, I find computer games to be much more intense and more riveting while toking. I make better moves because my mind is uncluttered with extraneous thoughts.

I would never do it Vegas, however. For me, it would tight roping without a net. Too risky.

As it becomes more accepted, things will change, I'm sure.

If you're saying you smoke weed at the tables and you see people doing the same all the time I call total BS on that. The smell is too obvious and I can't imagine the casino just letting it go no matter how much you were betting. I've also never smelled weed on the casino floor, only outside the casinos or in the hallways of the hotel.

You guys have to see this youtube video. This character is at a blackjack table and he decides it would be a good idea to bet a big pile of weed instead of chips. It's all caught on surveillance. I saw this a few years back and this topic reminded me of it.

    What a moron:evillaugh
