    My Trip Report

    Back again. I am using my usual format (Instead of listing it chronologically I will break it down into topics) for the trip report, but changing one aspect a bit. Usually I make one large post but this time it will be broken down into multiple posts. Doing one single large post seems to cause performance issues when opening the thread due to links to all the pictures and video.
    As always, if you have questions or want further details about any specific event let me know.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ~ Quick Summary
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    From the start of the trip I was in a hole which started small and only got deeper until the last night. A few nice hits on that final night and basically broke even for this trip. My wife never recovered. She has taken a beating the past few trips. I think low rolling doesn't allow her to recover as those big hits really don't happen, but then again by better larger she could end up losing even more.

    We ate at a few new places and have some reviews along with pictures and video.

    There isn't nearly as many slot videos as usual simply because not much was hitting. My old favorites like Top Dollar and Monte Carlo really let me down this trip.

    If you are looking for a time to go to Vegas and don't mind the cold, this week seemed like the time to go. The baggage area was pretty empty. Overall this was probably the least number of people we recall seeing during a trip. Even the sidewalks weren't as crowded and the Paris buffet which is usually packed only had a few people in line.

    ~ Flight Report and limo ride
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Arrived via SW on one of their newer planes. Slightly more room between rows. Not noticeable at first but becomes noticeable once you sit down and very evident when the person in front reclines and doesn't crack your kneecaps.
    After landing we headed toward the luggage area where we met Juan our limo driver. Same driver as last time and a really nice guy. Had him take our picture again outside the limo.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ~ Check-in
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Arrived at Planet Hollywood before noon. Staying in the Resort Vista room and could have actually acquired a room early if we wanted a low floor number. The person stated that our host arranged a room on the 21st floor so we opted to wait for that room. She stated that it would take an hour or two before it was ready. I asked if there was anything around here to do for the next hour or so. Apparently she didn't pick up on my sarcasm as she was trying to come up with some ideas.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ~ Room/View
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Stayed in the Resort Vista and like the fact its at the end of the hall. Little to no noise and the bathroom area has the same amount of square feet as the room.
    They even had a coffee maker in the room which was nice.
    This was our view and basically the type of weather we had most of the trip.
    ~ Vegas weather
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Our previous "early" trips have been in February and thought waiting a few weeks for March that the weather would be a bit better, but not so. It wasn't as cold as we experienced in mid February but it was the most damp. The first night was a constant drizzle/rain. The next day the rain was a bit harder. We haven't been in Vegas during this type of weather (constant drizzle/rain) and was surprised just how slick were the walkways. In fact we saw one person who took a nasty spill. Didn't really see it but heard it when he hit the ground as he hit that hard. I can't image that person being the only one to spill and we just happened to see it. I expect this was pretty common as they were very slick and much worse if drinking.

    Now on to the interesting stuff.

    ~ Top Dollar Slots
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    While waiting for our room to be cleaned we needed something to do and BurGR was not opened. So, what to do, what to do???? Lets hit up the $1 Top Dollar machine. What a great idea!!!!
    Not!! Down $100 in the first 5 minutes of the trip. At this pace I will have to take from my wife's gambling cash to make it through the trip. Better head to the 25 cent Top Dollar machine and try to minimize damage this early. I will post what I have from my Top Dollar bonus play this entire trip and you will see it is basically nothing. I usually have this many bonus rounds in one session and here it is over the duration of the entire trip with just a few videos. This is my favorite slot machine and feel it let me down this trip.
    ~ Monte Carlo Slots
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    My wife is prepping for our Giada dinner and says go downstairs to play as she will be a while. Ok, I will play for 15-20 minutes and head back up so we can leave together. In order to stay close to the elevators I jump on the Monte Carlo slots. From my previous trip report you will know this was a great machine for me last trip.
    It was about 6 spins in and I hit the bonus round and get this.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDeVMaHZ7VA

    Decided to move to the next machine and soon get two more bonus spins.
    Both times I thought I was going to hit the $500 again but the machine was only teasing me.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-fdnl99JdM

    I played this slot machine a number of other times but what you see above was essentially all the bonus rounds I hit which is nothing compared to my previous trip.

    ~ Sinbad
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    This is a new machine as it wasn't out during our Sept trip.
    You will not get rich on this machine but you can play a long time on this machine for little money.
    This is one of the more entertaining machines as there are numerous different types of bonuses and they are frequent.
    The bonuses are required to complete a journey.
    Usually when a machine has frequent bonuses it gets boring after a while because it becomes repetitive, but not this game. Even though the bonuses were frequent they were very different.
    We played next to each other for what was close to two hours and I have close to 40 different bonus rounds recorded. I will only list a few videos here but uploaded numerous ones to YouTube. There were numerous other bonus rounds that I didn't record because I got tired of recording them all. Did I mention the bonus rounds were frequent?:wink2:
    The bonus round is called "Adventure Time" and we were well into our drinking phase of the night. Anytime the bonus appeared we would yell "ADVENTURE TIME!!!" like a bunch of drunkards. :beer::beer:(Correction, my wife said that was only me doing that. )
    I have about 40 bonus videos uploaded on YouTube. Here are just 3 of the.
    ~ BurGR - first meal
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Our first meal was BurGR. Usually we each get a burger but this time we opted to split one.
    Each visit to BurGR we try something different and this time it was the Uber Burger. This was not our favorite burger.

    IMG_0485.jpg

    If we tried this burger our first trip we probably wouldn't have eaten here again but since we had a number of good burgers here previously, we will continue to eat here as our first meal.

    Usually I avoid the milkshakes at BurGR because I am a simple man and only want a chocolate shake. No need for those fancy milkshakes. When asked if they can produce a simple chocolate shake they said no problem and am I glad they did. It was definitely one of the better shakes I have had in Vegas.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ~ 800 degree pizza
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    For dinner our first night we headed to Monte Carlo to try the 800 degree pizza place. For the 800 pizza I can see how it can quickly get expensive if building a pizza from scratch with different toppings.

    We opted for the Neapolitan Margherita pizza. My wife didn't like it but I thought it was great. Most definitely fresh tasting. I will have to agree with my wife that for a pizza coming out of an 800 degree oven it was not hot at all, but you could tell by taste they use fresh ingredients. In fact when I asked for some oregano, the guy brought over what looked like a bundle of sticks and he squeezed the branches in his hands and all the oregano would fall off onto the pizza. You can't get much more fresh than that. The one pie was all we ordered but I could have eaten it by myself.

    ~ Giada's (Dinner)
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Ate lunch at Giada's during our Sept trip and decided to try dinner this trip for the larger menu selection.
    While waiting for dinner they brought out some break. Below is a picture.
    The big loaf in the pan was awesome and we both said it was the most delicious.
    IMG_0519.jpg
    As an appetizer I ordered the Orzo Meatballs which is seen in the above picture.
    At first I tried just the meatball and expected it have more flavor. Then I tried the meatball with the sauce which really enhanced the overall flavor. The meatballs in general were just ok, but with the sauce very good, but not $15 for 4 small meatball good.
    My wife opted for the Pappardelle (picture in the background) and said it was very good.
    I ordered the Ravioli (lobster) which was excellent. Although the portion could have been larger I was very happy to have given it a try and would recommend it to anyone.
    IMG_0521.jpg
    For dessert my wife opted for the Apple Tart and I went for the Chocolate Budino. Both were outstanding and won't hesitate on ordering it again.
    IMG_0524.jpg IMG_0526.jpg
    After two different meals at Giada's I will say you don't come here to get full. If you did it would cost a fortune. For what you see above the meal was about $130 minus tip. This is a place where you most definitely get quality over quantity. I recommend giving Giada's a try as I know we will be back.
    ~ Random slot machine while waiting for Gordon Ramsay reservation (Nice surprise)
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Paris has a host of slots outside of the Gordon Ramsay place. Usually I will just play the WOF slot machine but opted to skip it due to the changes made to the machines (as mentioned within this trip report).
    They have plenty of other $1 machines in the area and we decided to play one that is a combination of the Monte Carlo slots (with bonus wheel) and Blazing 7s as we still had a few minutes before the steak place opened.

    A few spins in and three 7s appear on the screen. I glanced down at the pay table and was happy to see this was a few hundred dollar hit, but my wife commented "Hey, you played max bet, right?" and based on that pay table it ended up being better than expected.

    The counter kept going and I had time to pull out my phone and video tape the credits accumulating.

    ~ Gordon Ramsay Steakhouse (Paris)
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    This was our first time eating here. We always wanted to try it but never was able to get around to doing so...until this trip.
    They start off with some bread which was nothing special. I will take the bread from Giada's over this bread any day.
    IMG_0558.jpg
    For an appetizer we opted to share the Butter Poached Lobster Tail as I always wondered how it compared to the ones we buy at the store. There is a distinct difference. You can tell it was definitely fresh. Just not sure I can convince anyone that it is worth paying $37 for it.
    IMG_0559.jpg
    Before this trip, I posted in the Restaurant section on this board requesting food recommendations. There was an overwhelming recommendation for the Rib Cap and Toffee dessert. Per the replies in the thread, the Rib Cap was our choice. It is an 8oz steak for $65. This is what I call a "Holy shit that was awesome" steak. (Thanks VMB for your recommendations.):thumbsup:
    My wife doesn't like to do steakhouses as she says they aren't worth it noting that my steaks are usually better. Well, this steak puts a huge hole in that thinking. Even she admits this steak is well worth it. Even at this price it would be hard not to recommend this steak. Even the chard parts of the steak didn't taste burnt but rather like crisp flavoring. We asked the waiter for a recommended sauce and he suggested the peppercorn, but to be honest this steak really doesn't need it. If my wife asked me to choose between sex and this steak, she may not like my answer.
    IMG_0561.jpg
    Per the thread, the other overwhelming recommendation was the Toffee dessert which we ordered along with the Coconut Cake. The Sticky Toffee Pudding was awesome. It was sweet but not overly sweet. Even splitting it we had trouble finishing the entire amount. The Coconut Cake had a unique combination of flavor but not something we will order again.
    Had the 2 for 1 breakfast here thanks to MyVegas.
    Even if we had to pay full price you get a decent amount of food at a good price and its fresh.
    We tend to eat breakfast here once each trip and I try something different each time.
    This trip I had the Breakfast Burrito which was awesome, fresh and hot.
    My wife had the Full Monte.
    What you see here was less than $20 (due to the 2 for 1) minus tip which isn't bad at all for a hot, fresh and good tasting breakfast in Vegas. The portion is actually a good amount as well as we try not to over stuff ourselves.
    Had to make it here to sample heaven.
    Put in an order for just 4 hamburgers as it has been ages since I had these delicious delights and wasn't sure exactly how it will affect me. They handed me my order and I ran to the counter looking forward to sinking my teeth into these tasty treats. Open the bag and there are two cheese burgers and fries. Definitely not my order. Head back to the counter and when they hand me the correct order the manager says they stuck in an extra hamburger for me. Believe it or not but that extra burger was my biggest win in the past 24 hours.
    Do I really need to report just how wonderful these were????:licklips::licklips::licklips:
    ~ Craps
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Last trip I don't recall having maybe one losing session. Based on my totals from the 2014 CET printout it shows me having a positive outcome at each CET property I played Craps. As a result I was looking forward to hitting the tables hard this trip. First night I find an empty table and proceed to lose my buy-in probably within 20 rolls. It was not pretty.

    Didn't go near a Craps table again that night.
    Next day I try two more sessions and can see the same thing happening and grab what is left and leave before its a total disaster.

    Next day I decide to play at the Quad (while we were in the area) and actually got to play for a while. Left the table almost even. Definitely not as painful as the other sessions and was hoping it was a sign that things were changing. This was the first time playing here and was delighted by the crew and pit boss. Would definitely stop and play here again.

    Later that afternoon we are back at Planet Hollywood where a nap was planned before dinner. I rarely get to play Craps at PH as the tables are usually packed. Whether there is 1 or 4 tables opened they are always packed, but I see maybe only 5 guys at this table, stick left opened and its a $5 table. Normally don't mind the $10 table but refused to play anymore unless it was a $5 table to help minimize any further damage. Do my usual buy-in and slow play a bit. Dice come to me and just a few rolls later same results as I have seen this trip.

    Slow play some more and the table starts to pick up. Dice are half way round the table and things are going pretty good. Then one guy goes on a really good roll. Dice come back to me and I hit maybe one point. I figure I will hang a bit and wait for the dice to come back around once more. The table cooled and losing money fast as I am no longer slow playing. The dice are only about 3 people away. Do I leave now with minimal gains or end up with another losing session????

    Well, I decide to take my money and leave with my first winning Craps session, head to the room feeling good.
    About an hour later I see the same group of guys at the table and ask if they left and came back or are they still playing the same session from before. They are all "We haven't moved. The table has been smoking." and I can see the racks have plenty of chips in them. Damn, I should have stayed. :cry:

    Fast forward to later that night which is the last night and last chance to play before a very early flight home.
    If the $5 table is still available I am playing whether its full or not. Walk by and 3 tables are full. They are both $5 and $10 tables. I see table 4 being prepped. Not sure when it will officially be opened and no idea of the table limit so I head to the blazing 7s machine to kill time. First spin, win $200. Cash out, go to the ticket machine, get cash and head for the newly opened craps table. (I like playing with the casino's money.)

    Final session and do my usual buy-in and slow play. About 10 minutes in, the table is still to myself, the money is going fast (again) and I'll be damn if I only have enough money for one more turn and then the god felt sorry and performed a miracle. Hit at least 7 points 4 of which were part of my fire bet. Although it was only a 4 number fire bet I had $4 down and $1 for the crew. Numerous 6 & 8 were hit along with hard ways which I had covered. On the come out roll I was betting $5-$8 on the CE and hitting 11s and Craps. Even when I was losing I was winning money. By the time I 7 out, there were about 8 people at the table and I made enough to cover my Craps loses for this trip. That is one of the many different types of happy endings one can have when in Vegas. :wink2:

    ~ Bally's shops
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    For those interested, the following is what Ballys had built as their outlets. There are a number of rows and I included a pictures from above to sort of get a sky view.
    Most of the stores are very small. When I say small I mean some stores are less than 100 square feet. Some are bigger but not by much. They were definitely shooting for quantity over quality. There are a few interesting stores and worth walking the aisles if in the area. Definitely stop in the cookie store for free samples.
    Here is a picture of the directory if interested to know what stores are there.
    ~ Milkshakes
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    If you read the BurGR review then you know this milk shake was awesome. About $8. This was probably the best of these three this trip.

    Had to stop by Ghirardelli and they have a great reputation and $8 for a medium shake is about the norm. If this isn't number 1 then it would be hard to drop this further than number 2.

    The Sugar Factory at Paris has been renamed and reconfigured. They are now Fixx if I recall correctly. Their milkshake was $10 and figure $12 with tax for not much at all. This was not a very good shake at all. Even at half the price, I will not get it again. Out of these three, I have to rank this 5th which a lot has to do with the price.

    I like this machine because it gives you a countdown to when the bonus round is started.
    The bonus round is where you select a case and take offers.

    If you slow play then you may not qualify to play, but you could slow play enough to qualify but only get x1.
    The faster you play, the more you qualify which means I get x3 or even higher depending on if I bet more each spin or just play faster.

    The following is a bonus round played by me, my wife and some random person sitting to my left.
    You have to watch the video to see if I made the right choice.

    ~ Wheel of Fortune (reel slots)
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    I think they swapped out all the WOF machines because now you need all the wheel symbols on the line to get a free spin. Previously it only required that the wheel appear in the far right to qualify for spinning the wheel. I even checked my old videos to confirm this. One other change is on the $1 machine it was $3 max bet per spin and now it is $5. Due to these two changes, I didn't play the WOF slots nearly as much as I have played in the past.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    I was still full from my White Castle burgers but my wife was hungry.
    Not my fault she declined and passed up the opportunity to eat White Castles.
    Since we happened to be at the Linq we stopped in the Yard House.
    I was drinking my Ghirardelli shake to chase down the burgers and only she ordered lunch.

    She ordered the Chicken Tortilla soup which she said was delicious. There were chunks of fresh chicken in the soup.
    For her meal she ordered the Club and as you can see from the picture they use fresh meats and not cold cuts.
    The sandwich also received praise from my wife.

    IMG_0555.jpg

    The only thing that would prevent us from eating here is that we couldn't charge it to our room (and get it comped).
    If we could, we would definitely be stopping here again.

    We did the Paris Breakfast Buffet again.
    This is one breakfast buffet I recommend to anyone.
    Between the made to order crepes station and made to order omelet station it is hard to bet for the price especially when considering you can have juice, coffee or soda.

    Here are the crepe options.

    IMG_0541.jpg

    The following is at the omelet station. What you see here are just the misc ingredients and no egg yet.

    IMG_0542.jpg

    This is the complete omelet.

    Trust me there is a lot there, and if it isn't enough, just go back for more.

    I actually have feedback and video on some other slots like the Flintstones and Wonder Woman, Ripleys and Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader but trying to limit report to prevent myself from rambling.
    The huge comeback on my last night was awesome. If it were a football game it would be in the list of top 10 comebacks games.
    Unlike my wife who has to rebuild her gambling funds, I get to pad mine for the next trip.

    Hope you enjoy the report.

    Great report, lots of detail.

    In your opinion, was Gordon Ramsay Steak worth the money? Wanted to try it for the past couple of trips but mixed reviews combined with the high prices have made me stay away so far. Maybe a first step is to have a drink at the bar and order the sticky toffee pudding.

    Granted I have not tried their other cuts of meat but based on Rib Cap results we plan to definitely be back.
    If my wife is willing to go back and pay this price again for steaks you know it has to be good.

    Great report, thanks for taking the time. About Wheel of Fortune. There are 1 line machines and 5 line machines. The 1 line ones only require the WOF symbol in the right column and cost 2 or 3 bucks. The 5 line machines cost $5 and require 3 WOF symbols on a payline. Whatever, I like 'em all :thumbsup:

    What a great report LVBound! Really love the slot video's ! I agree about Giada's, very light and smaller portion, but definitely quality. 800 pizza looks like I need to give them a shot being the Pizza Junkie I am! Thanks again for all the pics/vids and details man, love it!

    Nice report! I was there the exact same days, staying at Bally's. (We'll see if I get a trip report done...)

    You are right about the sidewalks being slick the first 24 hours or so--I'm one of the ones that took a tumble. Just as I was finishing a 7 am run on the strip, running through the Bally's Bazaar. Took a turn too tightly and crashed, banging up my knee and wrist. A combination of Bayer and Ellis Island light beer took care of the pain.

    I agree about the crowds--it was quiet! Perhaps that's why I could get a comped room at Bally's--literally the only three nights comped that month on my TR calendar.

    Gordon Ramsay is awesome. Ate there last 2 times. You ABSOLUTELY must have the Mac and Cheese and the Seafood Soup. Both are UNBELIEVABLE
