Frequently Vegas visitors here but not huge gamblers but once again we are heading out in February for my veterinarian conference. Problem is I waited a little too late to book my reservation and now my couple offers are not valid at Mandalay Bay (we are pearl, and both offers are for two comp nights with 100 free credit). Thanks for that fellow veterinarians....dates are February 16-20. Mandalay has become our home base even on vacation so I am a little deer in headlights here. Stayed at a variety of other hotels but was wondering the opinion of the Luxor due to most proximate location. What are rooms like? Which ones are most recently updated? Not a big fan of the casino vibe or setup so most of our time would still be spent at MB. Question is that Mandalay is the only hotel that sends me a direct offer with comp nights and was wondering how play outside that casino and in other life casinos would or wouldn't affect future offers? Any other ideas would be great but just disappointed I'm not going to be able to return to Mandalay bay this time.

I assume you have actually called, right?

If you are going to spend your time at MB, and they are not taking care of you, then call Luxor. They may be able to give you a similar offer.

Also assume you have checked to see what a PAID room will cost at MB? Might be worth it.

Did you check at THEhotel (and Four Seasons) as well? If you have to go to Luxor, the tower rooms are much newer than the pyramid rooms. We haven't stayed there in years, but if I recall correctly, the 1 bedroom tower suites were pretty comfortable. Four Seasons is more $, but if it's for only a few nights, it might work for you.

Haven't called Luxor direct but figured that was my next step. We usually stay at theHotel but ok with Mandalay also. Regular room rate for both the Monday Tuesday is 600 or so per night due to occupancy load. Are we going to be disappointed with Luxor after our expectations of a hotel is MB properties. We are just in a comfort zone with restaurants/gaming at that property and wondering if value of being next door is worth enough. Considered even heading to aria just to try something new but would make travel to Mandalay convention center a little inconvenient due to travel but foot distance would be long even from Luxor. I assume in my request at Luxor is to stick with a tower room request? Any newer rooms than that? Will gaming at another property affect my future Mandalay bay offers?

pss ask luxor to to match your mb offer for com and f $ b

they can alawys comp more on the back end rember

Four seasons is the same on being already booked. Should i call Luxor Vip guest services to ask for same requests like I do with Mandalay?

I had a one bedroom Tower Suite at Luxor in April. Very average. Large yes, 1200 sq feet. Three rooms, living room, dining/bar room and bedroom but each was average at best. I guess if it's comped or very cheap it would be worth it otherwise there are much better suite options out there.

You may want to consider MGM Grand if you are considering Aria. It's a quick cab ride to MB from MGM as opposed to staying at Aria. Though I love the Aria Sky Suites, if I had a convention at MB, I would choose to stay closer to MB.

The Tower Suites are very average, nothing special at all, just a couple big rooms. Definitely avoid the Pyramid. February could bring rain and many of the windows leak (the caulking is shot after all those years in the desert sun). Several years ago - the last time I accepted a Pyramid room - the floor was soaked due to the active rain shower inside my hotel room.

If you are used to THE hotel and MB Suites you will survive Luxor. Just don't have high expectations.

Easier to walk from MGM to Excalibur and take the tram to MB. We get our best offers from MGM, and play there when we go, but we play quite a bit at MB. My wife likes the casino at MB but not the hotel.

I'd stay at Luxor for convenience. Easy walk through the mall to MB.

I am staying at THEhotel in a couple weeks, but I stayed at the Luxor on my last trip. It's not as bad as everyone says. My rooms have always been clean there. Especially the tower rooms.

What is more important to you? Do you want a clean room/room that will "do"? Do you like the quality of the toiletries, the size or appearance of the bathroom, the quality of the bed (I am sure the Luxor tower beds are better than the thin mattress, low to the floor bed I had in the pyramid suite)? Luxor IS convenient if most of your time is going to be spent in the convention center. But if you want quality over convenience, then you probably would want to stay at Aria, if that is your other choice.

Luxor is absolutely fine, just get a tower room, they are nicer. Do not stay in the pyramid. I stayed in the tower earlier this year and was very happy. I felt the rooms were about equal to Mandalay's (since those are getting a little old too). they are tacky though haha.. with ugly Egyptian art. But it was clean, and the finishings were fine. I was surprised. Also it's pretty easy to get to Mandalay. Mandalay Bay is also sort of my "home" or the place I wish I could stay every trip!

If you need to be at MB a lot, and can't stay there, that's the only way to go. Unless you have a car, or want to keep forking over taxi money.

If this is for a conference, why not choose a better hotel (ex. Aria/Mandarin/etc.) and take a taxi to MB? Considering this trip is primarily for work, you can expense all of the hotel rates and cab fares.

Thinking the OP is self employed (Vet) and would therefore have to pay for it himself.

My boss is a real a$$.....oh that's right it me. Luxury vs convenience is the real question? I am willing to give up a little luxury but didn't want to be staying in the Excalibur old style rooms. We started as NYNY as our first hotel and really like the vibe of casino but have really fallen in love with MB and it's eating establishments, entertainment, casino, etc. We have stayed at NYNY, Excalibur, MB, theHOtel, Venetian, Mirage, and Caesars and find ourselves preferring MB scene. Creatures of habit I guess. Just didn't want to stay in Luxor and never feel like you can actually go back to the room and rest/sleep without feeling yucky because of room quality, smell, design, etc. This is one reason we have always avoided the Harrah's properties. Guess I'm getting older since that first trip to Vegas I am not sure if I ever pulled back my sheets on the bed and could tell you what the room even looked like. We still have those moments but do enjoy the luxury of feeling like the room is a place to get away too.

Definitely understandable then. Is your wife joining you? If not, I'd just consider getting a place nearby (Excalibur or Luxor) just for the convenience factor. However, if your wife is joining you and she has certain standards, then it might be better to splurge a bit on a better room.
