Does anyone know what has happened to Mandalay Bay? It used to be our "home" base in Vegas. We normally go 4 times a year but we are building a new house so the trips have been cut back. Before last weekend we hadn't been to Vegas since October. We stayed at the Aria this time, but felt we needed to go to Mandalay Bay since we have had good luck there in the past. From then until now, it seems like a completely different place. The floors hadn't been polished and looked dirty, half the slot machines have been removed (a lot of our favorites), and the place was dead.

Hmm... it looked great about 2 weeks ago. They had just put in all new carpet in the casino! Many of the slot machines were moved or removed during the carpet change. I don't know where you were looking but the floors looked very much polished to me. The walkway near the sports book and path to miX/THEHotel was all new tile. I can't speak for the Mandalay Bay rooms but the casino itself is looking good! I don't see any decline between now and the last 3 or 5 years. I think they do a fantastic job of keeping this property maintained.

Same here - was there two weeks ago and much of the new construction is being completed (and new rugs: http://www.vegasmessageboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=93017&highlight=carpet). The area in front of the new MJ theater looks great. They are redoing almost everything at the place inside and out.

    Still my "Home Base"...

It seems funny to call MB my home base when my signature reveals I am going to MGM next... but 7 of my last 8 trips were to MB.

Ever since the merger with MGM, the bigger play from MB got steered up the street and, as a result, a lot of upkeep, care and attention to the property went north with the business. This effect was only exacerbated when CityCenter opened and the company absolutely had to drive play over to the Aria. I have stayed at MB for different times over the past seven years and have noticed the change as well.

However, with the new restaurants, new clubs, new entertainment, new pool upgrades, new renovations at The Hotel (maybe), it seems like MGM is paying attention to MB again. The question becomes, what are they trying to make MB into? The past couple years, its really just been a convention hotel and that's what they catered to. I have heard speculation that MGM isa trying to turn MB into Cosmo south and bring in a younger crowd. Don't know if that is true, but it is interesting to speculate

The presence of Light Night Club and Daylight Pool will also draw more people to MB. The early reviews for both have been off the charts.

I am very interested in the pool reviews. Thinking of staying at MB late this summer and will decide between getting a daybed or cabana at the main pool, moorea pool, or the daylight pool. If anyone has experienced the new one yet or has any thoughts, please share

I plan to go to both this weekend and can let you know my impressions. Below is a pic of Daylight from MDW. As you can see, it's a completely different animal from Moorea and the MB main pool.

Glad to see there is a party environment now. It'll be my first time staying and from past reviews, I thought it would be extremely mellow!

It was the floors at the entrance on the way to the elevators. They were not shiny and it looked like glue or something was seeping through. They have moved out a lot of our favorite slot machines so that may be adding to my opinion. We were there with another couple who thought the same thing....maybe we just caught them in the middle of the renovation.

I still think it looks great.. it is getting old though in general, hence the renovations right now. Considering it hasn't had an update in a while... since it opened?

MGM was completely gutted and Aria is new.. can't really compare. I still think it's a great property and would happily stay and play there anytime!

Also yea till this year, they didn't really have much nightlife either so it would mellow out sometimes. Not that I need to see that parade of people haha.
