I am planning a trip to Vegas in September with a buddy of mine. We both like luxury but Bellagio/Wynn/Venetian/Aria are out of my budget right now. I stayed at Mirage a few years ago and thought the rooms were okay, not much better than the next tier down ( Bally's ) but I think they have been renovated since then. We both stayed at Mandalay Bay and I thought the hotel was nice but the location wasn't the best. I prefer mid-strip but am not afraid to walk. At night we would go to dinner and bars or shows but during the day I would spend a few hours playing poker, so I want to be able to walk to Aria/Bellagio/Venetian.

I checked Hotels.com and there is a sale for the time we're going, which is a Friday thru Wednesday

MB - $133 per night plus $75 food and beverage credit or $665 + credit
    Mirage - $150 per night or $750

So I need some opinions. Are the rooms much nicer at Mirage since 3-4 years ago? MB vs. Mirage in general? My impression of MB may have been skewed because I had stayed at Encore shortly before then. Maybe people have a good third suggestion. TI is priced close to Mirage but I think TI is dark.

    Thoughts?

I haven't stayed at either..I know great help..lol but I have read great things about both on this board. I think it matters to what you prefer, does the $75 food credit mean a lot to your or staying basically center strip at the Mirage? Pros and cons of both..but does MB charge a resort fee like Mirage?

Mirage added the same $75 food and bet deal. I talked to my buddy and we voted for mirage, lol. Thanks for the help and please expect that I'll be posting in the threads for nightlife for guys in their late 40's/early 50's!

This will be good, I was worked about being able to go away for a vacation, much less Vegas, this year but now I've committed and it will be good to have a friend with me to enjoy some nightlife but still play poker in the day!

I prefer MB to Mirage, but if walking distance to a mid-strip poker room is a requirement, cross MB off your list. The only other resort I can think that meets your requests would be MGM Grand. Its perhaps as close to the Aria poker room as the Mirage is to the Bellagio poker room

Given the choice I'd go Mirage simply for location and for the fact it has a great poker room itself.

Obviously Mandalay is farthest from mid-strip, but the location isn't too horrible really, when you consider you can easily visit Excalibur, Luxor, MGM, NYNY. And of course, MGM has a monorail stop. But if location is your priority, then perhaps Mirage is better. Never stayed at Mirage, but my stay at Mandalay was one of my most memorable visits.

I stayed in a renovated Tower Deluxe room at Mirage less than a year ago. It was nice. I wouldn't call it luxury but it was more than nice enough for any guy's trip I could imagine someone planning.

Certainly not a Venetian/Wynn/Bellagio experience from what I've seen at those places, but unless you're looking for some particular amenity, it should do just fine for the right price (particularly because of the great location). The location alone sells that place for me if you can find a deal or get comps, and the pool is sweet if you're into that.

Personally, I did notice a few things that let you know it was a renovated room and not recently built to those standards (shower head had issues, little things like that), but overall my girlfriend and I were content and would stay there again.

Mirage is our favorite place in Vegas for so many reasons. You won't be disappointed. In a world where convenience matters, Mirage is one of the most convenient properties on the strip. Everything is good or better that they offer. They do nothing half-assed(i.e. room renovations, shows, food, pool, service, etc) Have fun and win big!

Both are good. The rooms are probably really similar. I prefer Mandalay though, I like their casino and restaurants. Both have decent walkability. Mandalay seems far but yes, instant access to Luxor, Excalibur, and an easy walk to MGM, Trop, and NYNY and Monte Carlo (which aren't upscale). But the Mirage is in walking distance to Venetian and Wynn... It's all a matter of preference I would say.

Thanks to all. One thing that is a bonus for me at Mirage is the poker room.

I'd say the Mirage solely for convenience. Also, I was there at the end of June, and the rooms are nice. We were upgraded to a Tower Deluxe room with a strip view using the $20 trick. I will say that I have never stayed at the Mandalay Bay, but am considering it for my next trip. I know it is close to Luxor and Excalibur, but those are two places that I'm not a fan of. I do like NYNY and MGM so that helps, but I think you cannot beat the Mirage's location. Also, plenty of food options (except for late at night, only Carnegie Deli is open 24h). Pool is fantastic and gambling was okay.
