I'm investigating a move to the Mandalay Bay for my May stay from MGM. I know like any other property there are pros & cons, like being located at the end of the Strip being a potential drawback. For those of you who have stayed at MB in the past, what are some other things to think about before I make my decision?

    • The pool area is awesome - wave pool, lazy river, multiple "regular" pools. On the down side (for me at least), there can be a fair amount of children.
    • Standard MB rooms are just "ok", but the rooms at THEhotel are great.
    • Amazing amount and variety of restaurants and clubs/lounges.
    • It is very hard to get to the lobby of Four Seasons (you have to go around the back side of the MB checking area), but really nice change of pace for breakfast or lunch at Veranda or drinks at Press.

I was pretty anti-MGM for a while, but I just stayed there last month and I thought it was awesome! The whole place is brand new! Can't beat that. Mandalay is my favorite though...

All I could say is the rooms at Mandalay are older.. but they are still in good shape, also it's really far away without car. I stayed there last year without a car, cabs ended up being a big expense, and that felt limiting. Like is "XYZ place" worth going for $30 cab fare. But I love all the dining, shopping, gambling at Mandalay. Also the beach is awesome! I always feel really comfortable there.

MGM is HUGE, that's a drawback, it's like a 10 minute walk to get out the door on the strip. Also sometimes check-in can take an hour because there is so many rooms. Also I don't really find I'm interested in their dining options... not bad, I'm just not into it for some reason. But, everything is really nice and new there. Pretty hard to beat that. The rooms look great! Even all the slots were new! It really felt nice.

The great thing about MB is that there are many room choices on the property. We usually stay at the Four Seasons, and have stayed at THEhotel, and MB numerous times over the past 15 years. The room pecking order is Four Seasons > THEhotel > MB. It's worth checking the rates for THEhotel as well as MB. Sometimes there isn't much difference, and at THEhotel you get a true suite with the bedroom and living room separated by a wall and door, as well as a powder room in addition to the full (tub and separate glass shower) bath.
In addition to the pool options mention by the previous poster, MB also offers top-optional (21+) sunbathing at Moorea Beach.

    Enjoy!

best part about thehotel, to me, is not only the room, it's the valet. it's literally right by the elevators .

If the budget permits, definitely try and upgrade to THEhotel for the same reasons that everyone mentioned above. Maybe even book at Mandalay and try and $20 trick over to THEhotel.

It's also a little quieter, but just a short walk from the casino. It's very classy in my opinion. However, the rooms are very dark, so that might not be your thing. The bathroom was incredibly nice and I fell in love with the steam enclosed shower.

Even in a standard MBay room, get a strip view room. Great view up the strip with floor to ceiling windows. Worth the extra 20 bucks a night.

Agree! And it's the most convenient (and least congested) location from MB casino floor for grabbing a quick limo or cab. The cab/limo line at the main MB entrance is always congested. The Four Seasons entrance is rarely congested but is less convenient to the casino floor.

Agreed on all points, the rooms were actually quite a disappointment for us when we stayed there in December, the Great Room we paid to upgrade our comp to was far from as nice as THEHotels rooms or even the Luxury Tower or Players rooms at Luxor in every aspect.

I like MB a lot as a property. Really the only reason I wouldn't stay there again is my preference to be in the middle of the action of the strip. It can feel like a long ways a way if you want to be out and about multiple times throughout a trip. I liked the casino, sportsbook, my room, the staff and f&b options. When I went it was in the winter a few years ago, so I have no experience with the pool. Good luck!

MB is the best all round property in Vegas. Period.

    It's extremely clean.

It doesn't smell of overloaded vanilla, to kill the smoke smell.

There are no vagrants or porn slappers or timeshare pushers.

It has the tram if you want to get to the strip.

Along with all the other good things that the previous posters have said.

We have stayed at MB a couple times; I would def ask for a strip view - I'd say it has the best view of anyplace we have stayed. The rooms are nice and clean.

We prefer MB over THEHotel, MB is just a tram ride to Luxor/Excalibur - then pedestrian walk to NYNY/MGM.

    The food choices are fantastic!

I would check for any large conventions they may be hosting as that can make/break it - too many people.

We stayed on comps twice; the property itself is always the first to send us offers.. which can be nice too.

Good Luck, whatever decision you make I'm sure you will be happy. :peace:

I'm in the X3 suite right now! I usually stay TheHotel (love it) however, I needed more room this trip. The view is amazing and sooo much room. Master king bed, 2nd bedroom 2 queen beds.

That's quite an extreme statement. Some would consider it one of the worst on the Strip. However, it is connected via Luxor and the tram for reasonably easy mid strip access. I would argue that Stratosphere and Circus Circus much worse strip locations... and when consider all of LV, there are many, many, many worse locations.

Location could be an issue. There are way worse. LVH to start. Or Trump, or...

What is nice about MB are the number of options right there. It really is a big place with lots of stuff. You can easily walk over to Luxor and Excal. All indoors. Slight outdoors to NYNY.

I will agree it is NOT center strip. But, we like to walk alot.

    Worst for who?

Many people love the location. Just like many people love mid-strip and many people love the north strip end. Or downtown. It's all about personal preference.

I personally love to be out in Summerlin, but if I had to stay on the strip, it would be the extreme end of it. It's better for me when driving out for the day, I don't get caught in the strip gridlock.

I'm staying at MB in June and look forward to it!

The location means little foot traffic and less congestion. I like that. I like the casino layout, food options, nice rooms, great pool. As said earlier, easy tram to Luxor and Excal. I haven't stayed there in awhile but I enjoyed the times (3 or 4) that I've stayed there.

Its a pretty terrible location for people who like to spend a lot of time at the high end casinos since all of them are located mid strip or north strip. But if you like Luxor, Excalibur, NY NY etc its not to bad. I know i would visit some of MB restaurants more often if it was located anywhere between City Center and Encore.
