Just got home from Mandalay Bay and they are hard at work changing the casino carpets right now. They are constantly working very quickly 24 hours a day. I heard it will be finished by this weekend. They block off sections of the casino and move the games/tables while working on the area. It was pretty interesting watch them work.

The new carpet is like walking on a cloud and it makes the casino look nice and fresh! We would walk across the old carpet onto the new carpet and it was such a huge difference!

So funny. We were at TheHotel this past Thursday thru Sunday and experienced the carpet work.

We also joked almost every time we moved from old to new carpet and vice versa - like walking on a cloud to walking on cement.

We were there the night they did the big rectangles of carpet along the way between MB and The Hotel in front of new MJ theater. I got yelled at for walking through a roped off area. :drunk:

I also just got back from TheHotel last Wednesday, and yes the new carpet is like walking on air, ,compared to the old. I believe the were just starting the carpets the 2nd day i was there, I walked into the casino on Tuesday morning, and half the slots were missing from floor. but back up and running the following morning, they do work fast.

Mandalay Bay also, in conjunction with the Light Group, opened "Light" the other night! It's another obscenely expensive nightclub designed to drive the "downtown lovers" crazy!!! Not surprisingly, the light-show is rumored to be the best in town. DayLight will be the associated day/beach-club. When is Boyd gonna get in the game and put something together???

Does Boyd still own the property where the Stardust was, and if so what is the status of Echelon? Thanks.:peace:

No, the land was sold to an Malaysian casino firm with plans to build a rather "unique" property named Resort World at some point.

WOW, I don't know if that place will be the same without that dark old red and gold carpet. I knew just the path to follow to find my way back to the elevators after a late night at the craps table....

I quite like Mandalay Bay - first time we stayed was at MB, the second time was at THEHotel. I was worried that I would not win anything there but had some good luck throughout, and a big win on the last day. Just hope they don't tighten the machines to pay for the new carpet! ;)

It is such a peaceful spacious casino (less so on weekends, esp in the evening) with great smoke ventilation - we really noticed a difference when we visited other casinos (Caesars, Cosmo, MGM) and really preferred to come back "home".

The difference in carpeting was amazing when going from one batch to another. The new pattern is also much more modern looking, which I'm still not so sure about for MB. I would have hoped for something with a more Polynesian feel to it.
