I saw Mama Mia years ago at Mandalay Bay and loved it. I see it is now playing at Tropicana. Has anyone seen the show at this venue?

I haven't seen it but I'm hoping it does well as I went to high school with the girl that got the lead role.

That's a cool connection. I have actually seen Mama Mia twice...once in Vegas and once locally....both were great.

Saw it with my wife last Tuesday, May 20th. Excellent show, funny, great music and props. Now coming from a "Dead Head" who hates to admit he's heard a few Abba songs over his years, I'd say that's quite a compliment. Also, I'm 6'5" and found the seats to plenty wide and I had no problem with leg room!! Saw Gladys Knight here a few years ago, the theater remodel is nice.

Thanks for the review; I think I'll give it a go in July; Goldstar has discounted tickets.

Mamma Mia To Close in August

Vital Vegas just tweeted that, according to columnist Mike Weatherford, Mamma Mia will close at the Trop on August 3rd. Pretty surprising.

    Vital Vegas ‏@VitalVegas

Wow! A new record. (Not the good kind.) RT @Mikeweatherford "Mamma Mia!" Is closing at Tropicana Aug. 3.

More on the closing from the Las Vegas Sun:

Wow, that's unfortunate. Selling 300 tickets on a two-show day? So probably 100 for the early show and 200 for the late show? That's embarrassing for the cast. And definitely not sustainable. This cast was formed for the Vegas residency, so guess they're all out of a job now after being guaranteed 6-12 months.

Saw the show this past May, was just ok for me. Wasn't too crowded but we had tickets in the last row, but I asked the usher if it was ok to move forward, she said wait 15 minutes and then go ahead. Tipped her 20 bucks and she took us to the fifth row.

The thing I didn't like about the seating, was that it was lounge seating not theater seating. So there were tables and chairs in the front and then two rows of booths after that, I think that affect the crowd interaction and the performers don't get to really get into the show when the front seats are not filled up.

That is too bad. I wonder why it did so poorly there. Didn't it last a while at MB?

Man, it just seems like the Trop cannot get a break.
