LONG LONG story just to make hotel changes.

Originally made plans to stay at Mirage while friends of ours are staying at Flamingo. We have never been to Vegas with them. They are renewing their vows and we wanted to be there with them for that. Dh and I usually stay at CET properties but are trying to get reestablished back at Mirage. We like Mirage when it's just the two of us. Get mirage for 0/29/0. Then my mom and daughter decide to join us. I book a room for dd at Harrahs since its across the street. My mom used my husband as a companion to get her room also fully comped at Harrahs. We are good to go, except it keeps hitting me harder and harder how much I dislike gambling, eating, staying, walking thru Harrahs. I def have to do some gambling at CET to keep my status, now that I have booked a room there. And while I love Ballys, it's just a little too far to skip over there whenever I want to gamble. Ok, so it's all good, dh does not want me to change anything.

Me- "Oh look, three free nights at Wynn, with $$ free play, honey"
    him - "no!"
Me - " oh look what I got, $$$ free play at Strat"
Him - "we are not double booking ourselves!"
Me - "I really think we should stay at Ballys"
Him- shrugs his head in disgust and walks away mumbling "you are going to do whatever you want, regardless of what I say anyway"

I'm shocked, lol. This isn't our first rodeo. 22 years of marriage, 40+ trips to vegas, he knows I love planning each and every trip. Gotta love this, we do it every time. It kills me to leave free play untouched. But I leave well enough alone.

Then I get two coupons for 2 free nights at Paris. I send these off to our friends since they have more people joining them. I'm still pondering moving to Ballys.

Then our son decides to join us. He'll have to share a room with his sister at Harrahs. It's a suite, so they will be fine. But I'm still regretting not originally booking Ballys. Oh we'll. I like Mirage. Just gotta keep telling myself that. But I don't like the bartop VP, and I plan on doing a lot of that this trip.

My best friend goes to Vegas, stays at Ballys. Calls me several days ago raving about her time there. New renovated room, bartop vp, dining, etc. Sh_t. of course, I tell her how I want to move our reservations over and that I have spent hours trying to figure out how. I can get my room, mom can get her room, but what about my kids? I have moved from Diamond to Platinum and can't get a second comped room anymore and the rates are crazy. She, oh so nonchalantly mentions she has the two coupons for two free nights at Ballys I can have. Well, praise The Lord. :nworthy:

So then I spend more time online only to find out that the third night for my kids' room will be $185. What?? For Ballys? That's not happening. Mind you, this is signing in online with my ac, signing off, signing in w hubbies ac, signing off, signing in with moms ac, etc etc. So I call and get told the best they can offer me is $165 with friends and family rates. Haha. No. I'll keep things the way they are. This taking up way too much of my time. :rolleyes2:

But of course, I keep mulling it over. There has to be a way to do this. None of this would matter if I didn't get free rooms, lol. I would have just made the change and been done with it. But oh no, not me. I enjoy the game. So I look up hosts because I can't find the contact info for mine and send off an email. Well hello stranger host boss man, I have two reservations at Harrahs I'm looking to change to Ballys. I have coupons for my kids rooms, but need a rate for their third night and oh, by the way, I know I have free play and dining offers, can you add those on to my reservation too? Goodness, even I think I'm nuts.

But I get the nicest host and she is able to make all the changes. The kids third night will now be $80. All amounts I have mentioned at CET include the stupid resort fee. DONE, please make the changes. So, with the $29 at mirage plus resort fees and taxes, that we were paying for the one night, we are now paying like $10 difference, we are all now staying together. I won't have to walk my daughter back to another casino late at night. I can now play at my favorite casino, etc and even be closer to our friends.

I realize this is the most disconboobulated story. But I know I'm not alone in making and changing room reservations before a trip. BTW, hubbie is still rolling his eyes, and just says to tell him once we get there where we are staying. Gotta love that guy

I think the lesson I have learned is to not tell anyone dh and I are going. Just book our room at Mirage and be done with it. Hahaha

Your last line says it all. Though after a few years of doing it, it's hard to keep the "lie" going without slipping up.

Totally relate to the OP's room shenanigans. It is fun though!

As for keeping up the "lie", this also hits close to home! We are going early November and I was just telling the wife last night that it is about time to let everyone know we will be gone for a week. We have had our plans set for a few months now, but have kept it under our hats for a few reasons. First, while we love our family and friends and enjoy trips to Vegas with them, we really prefer going by ourselves. Easier to go where we want and do what we want. Second, I just get tired of justifying "another trip to Vegas". And dealing with the "why don't you go somewhere else for a change" comments. We are in our 50s and have taken plenty of other vacations. We have come to the realization that we just enjoy Vegas more than anywhere else and can go there cheaper than anywhere else.

Now I need to get back to the Southwest site, the TR site and the car rental sites to see if I can book a better deal! Ah, I love the chase!

Can you tell me a bit about this, please? I never knew that you could get a second comped room as a diamond. Were you a very high level diamond in order to get this perk?

    Thanks!

Monkey, I was certainly not a high diamond but never had a problem calling my host and getting an extra room. So, I'm not sure how that worked. We have gone from three trips a year down to two, then down to only one this year, so I don't get much anymore. Then my moms and my husbands offers are less, thus the dilemma with our getting a kids room.
