Has anyone stayed at the M recently? Planning a trip for late December and looking at staying there this trip. We have enjoyed the casino and of course the buffet on many previous trips, but we have never stayed there. Any information about the rooms and the likelyhood of getting an upgrade would be appreciated.

I'd put M's standard rooms (550 sq ft) up against any on the Strip. (I've stayed at Wynn, Palazzo/Venetian, Caesars Octavius, also Red Rock off-strip).

You have a pretty good chance of getting Strip view when booking mountain view due to the design of the place. The Strip is a long way off but it's still the better side to be on because you're overlooking the nice pool area to the north. Tell them you're superstitious and ask for an odd numbered room!

I don't know about suite upgrades but I've heard you can score a standard suite (1050 sq ft) for maybe 50 extra per night and that seems about right since I was offered the same deal at Red Rock in May. I think Flat and Loft suites are reserved for big players but I'd like to stay in one of those (maybe this Thursday!).

Nice rooms and great service. The last time we stayed there was during a thunderstorm, and we sat for hours watching the lightning strikes all over the valley from our room. Cheap entertainment at its finest!

Funny you mention the thunderstorm, ardee. I was awoken by one a couple of trips ago at the M.
I ended up getting up and watching for about half an hour. Like you say, one of the better shows in town.

thanks for the insight, especially the "tip" about the odd numbered rooms. You now have me hoping for a thunder storm during our stay. We are planning our trip 12/26 thru 12/30, hopefully a slow time for them to get better rates. The web site, however, doesn't seem to be offering much in the way of discounts. We don't play high enough to warrant the attention of a host, but maybe I can score a casino rate by asking. We are members of the "club" but haven't been there for almost 2 years.

It doesn't take much to qualify for a casino rate, but you will have to go through a host for this. Just call and ask to speak to the host on duty.
Or you can try emailing any of their hosts. This has got me a casino rate everywhere I've tried it.

Current casino rate at M is $75 midweek, and (I'm guessing) $115 weekend.

We enjoy the M and have stayed there several times, usually with the 30% California discount. The staff is fantastic. As for upgrades, while we have yet to stay in a suite, I have booked Mountain view everytime and have no idea what the Mountain View rooms look like. We end up in a high floor strip view every time. It is a long way to the strip, but a lovely view. The standard rooms are among the best we have stayed in, and we have stayed in several very nice rooms. (Wynn, Venetian, Signature, MGM suites, TheHotel, etc.)

If you are ok with an off-strip hotel, I would definitely recommend the M.

Thanks all for your suggestions. We would love to stay at the M but have gotten no response after emailing the host supervisor over 5 days ago. Well I did some more checking, keeping in mind that it has been 2 years now since our last visit. I know that we had amassed sever thousand points during our last visit, although they have all been zeroed out by now.

On a whim I checked on the Station Casinos web site. Even after a two year absence there was an offer for us at Red Rock. Since we will have a rental car anyway the distance is not a problem. I checked on the offer and found we got 3 free nights followed by a fourth night for $80. WOW, I booked it before they changed their mind. So we now have 4 nights for a grand total including taxes and fees for $89.60.

I have to admit that I am very disappointed at the lack of response from the M Resort, but I doubt they would match the offer we got. I'm sure we'll make a visit while in the area probably for the buffet.

@KazooTom: Nice score on Red Rock. We Canadians don't get offers from Station Properties:( Don't give up on the M, though. Once you're on their mailing list you should get two free nights every month (including weekends), buffets, freeplay, tournament invitations.

@aashleyjc: I just got back from the M yesterday and checked the floor layout on the back of the door. 22 standard rooms face North (Strip), only 12 South (Mountain). I've only been on the South side once in 12 visits.

I tried Anthony's Burgers and Brews for the first (and second) time. Awesome burger (Stout Burger) and a $15 prime rib special on Fridays.

Thanks for the encouragement. We had previously been on the mailing list, but after a 2 year absence the mailings have stopped. One of the things I was trying to do was get reactivated on the mailing list, as of today I still have received no reply to my email.

We love Anthony's Burgers and Brews. My favorite is the hefeweizen with chicken, apples, brie and that amazing blue moon orange mayo.

As of today I still have received no replies to my two emails to the M. Have to admit that I am very disappointed in their lack of any form of response. Our past experiences with any of the staff have always been very favorable, then this! I've not even received an acknowledgement that my messages were even received (other than the web site's automated acknowledgement). As far as the mailing list, we'd be happy with the free buffet coupon as we both enjoy the buffet at M. I've sent a "snail mail" off the to general manager expressing our disappointment. I wonder if that will get any response?

I know our play will make no difference to their bottom line. In the grand scheme of things our meager gambling budget wouldn't make the slightest blip on their radar. I have to wonder, though, how many others have gone elsewhere because of the lack of any response? Then, of course, there are message boards like this one where the story is told and read by substantial numbers of people. I like the M and want to see them succeed. I hope they take note of situations such as this. I would have been happy with a response denying my request, but no response at all is unacceptable.

In contrast, not only was there a fantastic offer waiting for me at Red Rock, when I emailed them with a quick question I had an answer in just a few hours! Now that's the kind of customer service I have come to expect from properties in Las Vegas.

Agree with all the comments; the rooms are very comfortable and nicely furnished. However, we never seem to win anything there. One night we booked a comped room just to have somewhere to stay on our last night. We were traveling and arrived very late at night and they upgraded us to a suite. It was beautiful. Unfortunately we had an early flight the next morning and didn't have time to enjoy it. I think this was just a fluke though b/c we had never been upgraded before this. Guess they just had an extra suite that they weren't using and we happened to be in the right place at the right time!

During our past visits we have always stopped at M for several times to enjoy their casino and the buffet. The free buffet coupons they used to send out were a wonderful perk for us. We have also stopped out at Red Rock on our past visits and enjoyed the atmosphere there too. I'm sure we will also enjoy the Red Rock and the deal that was offered was far beyond our expectations. As I stated above, it will be interesting to see of I get any response from the "snail mail" I sent to the GM. I am still completely baffled by the lack of response to my inquiries via email. We are very low level players, but their lack of response leads me to believe they don't want our business.

With their location, I figure they would be sending out comps left and right trying to get people out there. But they don't. I have dumped a shit ton of money in that place, and I really love it out there and would easily stay there- if they comped me. But I get comped at Hard Rock and Stratosphere and just the other day Sams Town and Luxor e-mailed me comp offers, so I won't pay for a room at the M if I can stay elsewhere for free.

If I keep flying in around noon like I have been, I will go out there and use my free buffet coupon, gamble some and then leave. Their buffet is very good, when I flew in last month I went out on a sunday at noon and my free buffet was a $39.99 seafood buffet and it was as good as it always is. One other thing that is now a huge turn off about the place is they closed their poker room.
