I should know what to call this after all these years, but I'm saying "loss rate" for now. Does anyone else keep track of their percentage losses? I don't do it exactly, but have a fairly good idea at the end of a trip how much we've run through machines and tables. We consistently stick with "full pay" video poker games where we know the correct plays and table games like blackjack and pai gow with low house edges. We avoid tables with crappy rules and 6/5 blackjack payout. The only sucker bet we make is the fortune bet on pai gow, and then only a dollar or two. In theory we should be giving the house maybe 2%, but I drink when I gamble and can be inattentive at times and make mistakes. And I have to count my wife's activity too, but she is even more conservative and plays at a slower pace. Generally we are down after a five-day trip (our usual Vegas visit) about 6% to 7% or so of our total play. Occasionally we are lucky and finish close to even or up a bit. I am wondering if our experience is typical or if maybe I should get more serious when I'm playing (my wife concentrates harder).
