    Trips to Las Vegas:
Greetings from San Diego. I have been a Vegas enthusiast pretty much since my first trip at the age of 9. My parents had almost no interest in gambling or Las Vegas, so I went back once when I was 11 and then not again until I went with friends from college. I lived there for 6 months right after college in the mid-90s but decided that living there was like eating ice cream for every meal - it stopped feeling special. Ever since, I've visited vegas once or twice a year, and always seem to get the itch after being away for more than 5 months or so. Not like wanting a vacation, more like a bodily function such as eating or going to the restroom.

I like Las Vegas because is it is the place where I feel like I can be completely decadent. I'm not generally a big party person and I don't drink or gamble that much, but I absolutely enjoy enjoying. That, and eating.

My other interest in Vegas is being able to travel cheaply. Nowadays, that means staying off the strip and only venturing onto it occasionally and for specific reasons. I use coupons, look for bundles and freebies, wait for postcards. My wife and I both got Southwest companion passes through credit card bonuses.

I also enjoy eating in coffee shops - meaning a diner, not a place where you get a latte - which still exist in most Las Vegas casinos, but are now quite rare in California, aside from Dennys.

A lot of things I do in Las Vegas I could probably do anywhere, but Las Vegas is my happy place.

We often visit Las Vegas with our kids, who actually enjoy themselves, mainly because we don't take them to Circus Circus, or drag them up and down the strip. Instead we take them to places where they are welcome and expected.

About once a year we take a trip while trying not to spend a whole lot of money, and I try to document it in the Blogosphere. Some of the trips are to Las Vegas, with or without kids, but some are farther afield. Most recently we went to Spain and I am in the middle of writing that up now. If you want the very very long version of this intro, you can read about bottom-feeding the high life. Be careful what you wish for.

If you feel the need to read more than what has been posted, may I suggest you take 2 advil, lie down, and the feeling will soon pass.
