For those of you who still think local news is "news", more humor thanks to Conan!
Yes I'm jaded because I did this crap for 35 years, but it just keeps getting worse. They are all short clips.

Weird. It's easy to see how phrases could get rehashed when some stories are basically re-writes of press releases.

But how does that black friday couch catch phrase get cloned so widely? It's a one day story, it can't spread by osmosis that fast. Does the script just come with the syndicated package of B roll of shopping mall footage? Or has that phrase just been around long enough so that everybody just uses it every year now?

The video comes in via a satellite delivery system complete with suggested copy. For instance, every NBC station in the country is on that delivery system. It works that way for Fox CBS & ABC also, they each have a satellite system to share stories.

The producer could change the copy, but why bother, its all been done for them and they might have to fill a two hour show. Get it done and find the next story to fill time.

I'm sure in every example in all 3 clips, those were not local stories and the anchors were just reading the copy provided.

Some of these stations are possibly trying to fill 8-12 hours of "news" per day. Take whatever you can find on the delivery system and regurgitate it to the local viewer.
Yes, I know I'm jaded, but it's how the system works.
