    My Trip Report

Just a brief update! Plane landed a little early, yesterday morning at 10am. Turned on my phone and holy Batman. 10 messages about an incident on the LV strip!!

Headed to baggage claim, noticed LV Metro was everywhere inside the airport. Hmmm. While at baggage claim began reading the reports and realizing the gravity of the situation. I also realized the CET limo driver was a no show! We got approached at baggage my a free lance limo driver who offered to take all 5 of us to Ballys for $45. Nice score!

We stopped for beverages, the drive to ballys took almost 45 mins because the strip was shutdown. Wth? ImageUploadedByTapatalk1361549229.095770.jpg

Check in went well. $20 dolla holla got me and my girl a jr suite, and the other two rooms upgraded to north tower. Mentioned the limo not showing and the clerk noticing we had beer offered to send refrigerators to all three rooms to make it right. All good.

I will post a full TR at home, but just wanted to offer some thoughts and updates. We had lunch at margarita ville , very good, very expensive !! We casino hopped north strip, quad is looking good!

Gambling was up and down. Got hit hardest at TI. I would end up down only about $20 for the day. Hit one 4oak later that night at Ellis island.

Bummer of the night. We were all revved up to hit the third Thursday pub crawl downtown, well that got scrapped. The traffic was so snarled around flamingo and koval, it was gridlock. We couldn't even get a cab out of ballys. Cab line was 50 peeps deep and there were no cabs waiting. Bellman said cabs couldn't get to property a d we would be trapped in cab for at least an hour trying to get downtown. We ended up dining at Ellis island which was amazing and hanging out at napoleons piano bar. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1361549857.083023.jpg

Up and awake at 730am, more to come! Sorry about the typos, doing this from phone.

Thanks for the update and on site perspective. Do things seem back to normal today in terms of cabs coming and going, strip traffic both on foot and by car?

Yes! Finally. Everything opened up by the time we were walking back from Ellis island, which was about 10pm. Ellis island was really slow, we actually had a hard time even crossing the street the traffic was so thick!

    All is well this morning!!

    Hey Ron,
Congrats on the upgrades! Just curious (or nosey lol) were you on a total rewards comp before your upgrade to the jr suite? I have a 5 night comp at Ballys in April and hoped to land the same deal but wasn't holding my breath....then I read your good fortune and gave me some hope.

Good luck and have a blast! ( I know you will especially with that looker you're with! Lol)

    Thanks J!

Day 2. We begin w breakfast at Margaritaville. The food was great, waitress terrible.

Took a nice sightseeing tour of Caesars palace. I had forgotten how big the place was. On the way back to the strip we purchased tickets for absinthe on Sunday night!

Stopped by cabo wabo for some lunch and people watching. Downed a few margaritas in celebration of national margarita day.

Hit PH casino and donated a hundo via the big split poker machine. Was up and down, but eventually lost.

The girls wanted to hit the mall, so we grabbed a beer at sin city brewery and watched the UFC weigh ins. The beer was one of the worst ever!

We had dinner at pf changs, quick, easy, cheap and always really good food.

We then headed back to the hotel to shower and change before the club crawl.

Hit Mandalay Bay to meet up for the club crawl. The first stop was foundation room. It was amazing as far as the view, I had been before but never tire of it.

The next stop was MIX lounge, this turned out to be a really awesome club. It was a nice mellow relaxed vibe, but still had some dancing and music going. I was entering double digit territory on vodka and pineapple drinks, so it was just right.

The next stop was LAX, wow it was packed. I didn't expect to like it, but me and steph tore up the dance floor! We had a blast, didn't leave till 2am!

Cabbed back to ballys and hit the $2 taco special. It was just what we needed and was really good, I think??

Made it to the room by 3am or so. 14 hours of drinking. Down a few hundred gambling, slept really damns good!

Woke up semi re charged as ready for another day!!

We are here now on a comp, got the same deal on a Jr suite. Nice room. One interesting thing from yesterday: we were walking in front of Bellagio around 1 or 2, and at least 5 or 6 different police vehicles kept going by with sirens blaring. None were cruisers, all truck/SUV type vehicles. We commented that maybe they found the shooters from the other day, a d that's where they were all going. Looks like we were partially right, they found the vehicle.

    Hello again!

I will give a little update, but first to answer a question. We got our absinthe tix right at Caesars. They hand out $20 off coupons in front of the tent during the day. We paid $150 for 2 tickets in fifth row.

Yesterday morning we awoke a d decide to head out just the two of us. We had breakfast at Ellis island. It was a really good breakfast for only $20. I then decided to take the gf Casino hoping as this is her first trip.

We hit about everything from flamingo road south. I set the pedometer on our phone and we walked 8 miles!! It was a lot of fun. Bellagio was by far the most packed resort we walked thru.

After casino hoping I placed my UFC bets. I took 5 underdog and hit one. I thought we had big money coming when Carmouche nearly choked Rousey, but getting ahead of myself.

We decided to watch the UFC fights at palace station. $100 bought a really nice table in the theatre there and even include two buckets of beer. Had a great time there, even the gf who isn't a UFC fan enjoyed it!

After fights headed downtown, the wind had picked up and temp dropped big-time! We got to Freemont street and had to go into the Harley Davidson store. $450 bought us two really warm jackets and beer couzies. We hit Hennesseys and had a couple beers there. We then went to hogs and heifers and had an absolute blast. Here is our bartender

    ImageUploadedByTapatalk1361755430.291328.jpg

She was a riot and even offered to take my girlfriend off my hands for me. Haha. While we were there Corey Harrison walked in and sat down the end of the bar from us. He had a girl with him, maybe his wife. I don't know. He seemed like a regular, everyone pretty much left him alone. I ran into him in the bathroom as well. He smoked like a freight train while drinking his beer. We left hogs about 1am and cabbed to Toby Keith's bar, they had a really good band. We stayed for about an hour.

    ImageUploadedByTapatalk1361755601.390096.jpg

One more hogs and heifers pic

We got back to ballys at 2am and had a bite to eat at the tequila bar again. It is cheap and quick.

Well gf is telling me to shower, headed to Raos for dinner and then to Absinthe

Oh, lost my NASCAR bet today, bet on harvick, not a NASCAR fan, but thought it would be fun. It wasn't he crashed early!!

    Thanks for reading !!! ImageUploadedByTapatalk1361755741.601610.jpg

    Sunday fun-day !!

Slept in a bit, almost till 930. Wanted to lay a bet on the Daytona 500, friends said pick Harvick. That pick did not turn out so well!

Went to border grill for brunch. Used my Vegas comps. It was a great brunch, food and mimosas were excellent, but caution it was like a two hour affair. They were really crowded and really slow.

Walked around the strip taking my first timers sight seeing. I told the GF this is likely our last stay on the strip, so trying to fit it all in. We hit the north end, nothing worth of mention.

Everyone wanted Italian before we saw absinthe, so I made a reservation at Raos in CP. this was a good pick, food and service were the best of the trip. We had the most perfectly cooked pasta of my life, and don't leave without trying the meatballs! Best ever!!!

We then headed into absinthe for the 930 pm show. It started a bit late. I have saw the show before, about a year and a half ago. There were some changes and it seemed shorter. Tightrope walker almost fell and let out a very loud "oh shit". It scared everyone in the area for sure!!

After the show headed downtown, stopped at Hogs and Heifers again.

    ImageUploadedByTapatalk1361846047.398393.jpg

We then hit a small restaurant/bar next to Hennessys. There was a great live band playing , we stayed till they quit at 1am. The night ended with us siting on our couch in our room just enjoying a final beverage and the sights. It was a good day! The entire group loved absinthe! It wasn't as raunchy as the last time, so they really didn't get the full experience in my opinion as compared to the earlier shows.

    Thanks Gongoman!

    Monday, our final day.

Awoke about 845am, the whole group was up and ready for the last day. We walked to Ellis Island for breakfast, I had the steak and eggs for breakfast, it was super good, best breakfast of the week.

After breakfast it was time to pick up the rental car at Westin on Flamingo. I have rented a few rental cars while out here and this was by far the easiest and cheapest process. $97 for a mini-van, it worked out perfectly for us, seemed to be just what we would need for a day of sight seeing.

I hooked up my GPS and we were off for the 35 min trip to Hoover Dam. We stopped and checked out the new bridge/walkway, I gotta admit I am not the biggest fan of heights and this is WAY up there! WOW, awesome view though.

    View attachment 5767

Everyone liked the Hoover Dam, this was like my 4th trip out there and I don't really tire of the view and remain impressed by the entire area. I still say one of these days I am going to explore a bit more around the desert, but havent gotten around to it yet.

We left Hoover Dam with the intention of heading towards Red Rock Park to do the drive-thru loop. Everyone was getting thirsty for a beer, so I suggested a stop at Red Rock Casino prior to entering the park. Red Rock is on our list of possible stays for our Sept. trip, so it sounded like a good plan.

We stopped by RR Casino and were immediately impressed, the place is massive, modern and there are restaurants and bars every 10 steps. We stopped at the "Lucky Bar" for some Video Poker. The bartender COMPED by beers and surprising the beers of my GF. We stayed awhile and had 3x beers and actually got some real decent play out of my money on the VP. What a change from the strip!!!! We remembered that we had not eaten since 930am and it was not about 3 o'clock so we decided to try the buffet. We all agreed the buffet was awesome, cost me and GF $30 with my players card, worth every dime. I had an Asian feast while she went Italian. We both had desert, the only downside they do their cheesecake in those annoying little cups rather than in regular rectangular cake piesces.

After that we realized it was about 530 and we would need to wait another day to see the Park, we had Carrot Top tickets and needed to head towards the strip. The GPS took us down the highway and to the Tropicana exit, I then ignored the GPS suggestion to travel North up LV BLVD and went to KOVAL and staight to the rental car drop off at the WESTIN.

Back to the room to ready ourselves for the evening. We grabbed a taxi and headed towards the LUXOR, we were 30 mins early and picked up our tickets and waited patiently while sipping our 548th over priced beer of the trip. We were seated front row, seats 11 and 12. The show was great, my second time seeing it. We soon found out it was C.T;s B-day, his GF came out on stage and did a birthday shot with him. We were also seated next to a lady wearing a B-Day cake hat on her head. C.T. made mention of her that she is at his show all time and even has a tattoo of him on her calf with his autograph tattood as well. We were a little creeped by her and he seemed to be as well. C.T. also mentioned there was a drummer from the band Pantera in the audience. He went up and did a shot with him.

After the show we walked down to Public House to redeem the Travel Zoo $49 for $109 worth of food and drink. Public House had Karaoke going in the front bar section and we were seated in the back of the restaurant by request. The back area was playing music loudly over the in house speakers that was clashing with the Karaoke. We mentioned this to the waitress, she said it was driving the staff crazy because no one knew how to turn off the house music while the Karaoke was playing. The Karaoke was annoying, but hearing it with the house music was just as bad. The food at Public House was actually very good, it took forever and the place was empty, but food was good. I probably wouldnt go again, the booths were really uncomfortale and killed my neck and back, it was one of those deals where the table feels 4 feet from the seat. It probably would not have been an issue, but after four days of walking in LV comfort becomes essential!

A little detail on how the voucher works, we paid $49 for like $109 of food. However it is broken down, $13x 2 for drinks, $16x2 for appetizers, $26x2 for entrees, or something like that. So if you get $8 beers like we did and my GF got a salad instead of a dinner entree you leave a bit of money on the table, it was still a good value, just not the half-off as one my think. (I read the fine print, so knew what I was getting.)

After dinner we walked out into the lobby area, there was a drunken red-neck carrying a liter of Wild Turkey around and in a domestic situation with his signifigant other. We watched this go on for a bit while we were all using the restrooms, nothing physical but the guy was stumbling and bumping into other guests as they walked by. We were surprised security didnt intervene.

We then were looking for somewhere to go, the girls suggested Palms, as they were used to hearing Palms mentioned on TV so much they wanted to see what it was about.

Off to Palms, my initial impression upon entering was wow, this place has gone downhill as far as clientele and cleanliness. We sat down at the bar at the entrance by a hooker and began to play some VP. This would be my only winning gambling session of the trip as I walked away from the night with 3x free beers and $80 in profit. I walked to the ticket exchange machine to cash in my $101.25 winner and there were a couple pimps talking to their talent and commenting that the place was dead and they were thinking it was time to head to PH or they may not make any money tonight. It was dead, and it was 1 or so in the am and we had a morning flight. We headed to the taxi stand with our party of five.

At the taxi stand the attendant tells us he does not have a taxi that will accomodate 5. Now keep in mind there are taxis lined up as far as we can see. He says that we would be best taking a house limo and they can cut us a deal and take us to our hotel for $50. I tell him he has obviously mistaken us for idiots and he needed to find us a mini-van or a crown vic, both can accomodate 5. He again says sorry he doesnt have any, right at that second a mini-van pulls up and drops a girl off so we jump in, problem solved. As we travel towards Flamingo I can now see many mini-vans and crown vics waiting for fares.

We head back to the hotel and call it a night. It was a great trip, one for the books as far as I am concerned, we got a lot done and I am satisfied I showed my first timers 3 trips worth of sights in one trip.

    Some final thoughts and ramblings.....

We arrived on the day of the shooting and strip closure. I must say it was an eerie feeling to see the strip closed and see the back streets so crowded with pedestrian traffic. We could not taxi out of Bally's, there were 50 people in line without a taxi in sight. Flamingo and Koval were so packed with people that it was a struggle to even walk across the streets. We talked to people trying to check in and they described hour and a half cab rides from the airport costing $100 and having to walk in from the parking garage.

We missed out Pub Crawl downtown that night and instead holed up at Ellis Island. I am not complaining, it could have been worse, we could have been in that ill fated cab or lost a family member to the trajedy.

I had a great time with my GF, she hung in there like a trooper and was perfect company the entire trip. I have a keeper!! We set the pedometer on my phone two of the first days. We walked 11 miles the first day and 8 the next! That was just in our early day sight seeing and did not count the evening out!

I said last time I was done with staying an entire trip on the strip. This time things changes because I took virgins, next time I am staying half the trip downtown and the other half possibly at Red Rock.

I had a losing gambling trip, only got decent play out of my money off strip. I also again tired of the high priced beers, especially hate being raped at the Casino you are staying at. This is my fault though, there are many ways to dodge this expense.

I think the downtown continues to make strides. We much preferred the party vibe and ease of getting around and the more reasonable drink prices. I also like the retro decor that is coming around, like the D Casino. There remains much to be explored.

I noticed a ton less porn slappers this trip!! The recent legislation about picking up their trash must have hit them hard. Instead of five or six at an intersection now there are maybe two.

Bellagio and Caesars seemed to be the most packed resorts we visited with foot traffic, with Bellagio clearly the most packed. The crowds at Cosmo seemed improved as well, I saw more folks gambling there than before.:peace:

Our stay at Ballys was hard to complain about. Our Jr. Suite was COMPED except for the Sat night ($50) and it was clean as a pin. It was nice having a fridge and a coffee maker!! :nworthy:

I wish the weather would have been a little nice, I heard a clerk at Ballys say this is the worst winter she can remember. I have never hit worse in February.

A few of the things we enjoyed the most, our night of dancing at LAX, we later found out we were in front of the VIP table of one of the Washington Redskin football players celebrating his B-day. I told the GF those huge guys had to be pro athletes. Our Sat. night began at Palace Station for the UFC fights, $100 for a table with two buckets of beer for four people was a great value. It filled to capacity, so get there early. Later that night we hit Hogs and Heifers and it was an absolute blast. It was cool to see Corey Harrison of Pawn Stars fame come in and hang out just like a regular without being bothered.

We really enjoyed our shows of Absinthe and Carrot top. If you get the $20 off coupons for Absinthe that they hand out by the tent during the day and book Carrot Top early for 20% discount these shows are amont the best values in LV.

I also thought the dining values of Ellis Island and even Rao's was quite excellent. Rao's is obviously not even close to Ellis Island, but we spend that here at home and do not get that kind of quality.

Getting around LV via cab is always interesting, we had some really good drivers and some really bad ones.

I slept 15 hours after we got home, so I gave this trip all I had!! I still cannot imagine another place to vacation, LV is the ultimate for me. I am lucky my GF loves it too!

Our next trip is scheduled for Labor Day weekend, gonna do 7 days this time! And wink, wink, it will be our honeymoon trip

I will close with a few of our favorite pics, as always thanks for reading and enjoy your trips!!

I stayed at the Red Rock last August, it was a nice alternative to the strip & downtown, had fun hiking in the canyon and doing different things than a regular Las Vegas trip. RR's pool area is very nice!
