    My Trip Report

We were just in Vegas for my daughter's 21st birthday 4 weeks ago. That trip was a lot of fun and involved running all over town using free play and match play coupons. The texture of this trip will be very different. My wife and I both love playing poker. The Golden Nugget is running the Grand series right now so the plan is to enter several tournaments while still trying to play a good amount of VP. So much to do and so little time.....

Golden Nugget will be our home for the first three nights on a comp offer. This is perfect for the initial stage of the trip. GN has removed all playable VP. My solution to this is to take them up on every offer without giving them any play until the offers stop coming. I don't know if we will use the Gordie Brown tickets but I will play just long enough to cash in the $40 free play. I haven't decided if I want to just buy into the $570 main event or try to satellite in and play in the $150's if the sat is unsuccessful.

The final three nights will be at MSS. I short played them one day last year. I'm not sure why I did but it happened and my offers have been much lower this year as a result. I asked for my recent play to be reviewed and they have comped all meals up front. I just checked back with an agent and she confirmed that 3 meals per day for two people are comped. Coupon book, silver card or gold card? I don't know and didn't want to bother my host again to find out so it could be any of the above. I do know it is well above the two $15 food vouchers in the official offer letter which is all I really care about. The offer also includes 5x VP points which when combined with the scratch cards is very nice indeed.

Sorry to be long winded but I am enduring a long day at work prior to my flight this evening. To sum it up, we are starting the trip with: (combined for my wife and I)

3 nights comp at Golden Nugget
    3 nights comp at MSS
    $40 free play at GN
    $80 free play at Binions
$660 free play at Four Queens (I love crossing months)
$160 free play at the D (not sure if we will use this)
$60 match plays at the D (not sure if we will use this)
We'll find free food for the first part of the trip with MSS covering the 2nd part

Night #1 will be quiet. We are getting in late and want to be fresh for tomorrow.

You're beating me there by roughly 36 hours. Have you heard about the t-shirt promo at Boyd on Friday?

I saw it today. Don't want to destroy my daily at Sam's but the others are fair game. Glad I got a car.

Flight was smooth and timing of everything was perfect. Checked into the nugget and heading to bed. This feels way too smart for the first night in town but a fresh start in the morning sounds great. "Morning" might be at 4am but we will see.

If you're burning them...sounds great. I've had a few light gambling days on night 1. Generally a good thing because I have never won much on night 1. Look forward to the action later!

Morning started at 6:30. Not much happening so far. $40 free play at the nugget turned into 20 and $20 FP at Binions stayed at $20. Fingers crossed at 4Q now. Starting with $150 FP here.

    Good luck!!!

I meant to try to have a word with the person in charge of slots at the Nugget about them chipping away at the VP and that the effect is that they are going to lose my business for the most part. Reducing the last 8/5 bonus poker to 7/5? How is that really helping their bottom line? Who is going to hurt them on quarters on those machines (the only denom is quarters). It just seemed mean, and a last straw.

It may be futile but if they never hear the message, it won't change. And really, the Nugget is extremely successful downtown as the only high end product, and they are getting away with strip-like (or worse) gambling conditions for the most part. But still! We should try.

Blew through the 150 FP at 4Q and then went on a nice run at 9/6 jacks before playing it all back. Up 40 right now.

Some good draws at 10/7 DB. The queens got me a coffee cup too.

Those are some great quads while playing Jacks. Worthless ranks in any game. Keep em coming!

Meh. The Nugget has found the classy niche that likes Fremont St. and/or hates the Strip. And a 7/5 Bonus machine played maybe 2/3rds as much as 8/5 Bonus machine (exact numbers depend on error rate) makes them more money.

If I ran a casino (I could only dream...lol), I would still have full pay around, but it wouldn't be plentiful. There are still tons of players that could give two shits about paytables, especially in Vegas.

I agree with this....let the % take care of those looking for full pay and let the ignorant cover the rest.....I went through it...I didn't know until I knew....thanks to VMB's members.....
    good luck on the trip.....

Busted out of the poker tournament on a horrible play. I knew I was behind and called anyway. Why? Just why? Back to 4Q for more VP and another mug for 4 Qs .
