It was a soft opening for hard liquor.

The Liquor Library invited in its first customers on Monday evening, bringing to life a concept that first surfaced in early 2010. With about 350 different brands of beer, wine and the hard stuff, it's not much different from many other liquor stores except for the location - the baggage claim area of McCarran International Airport's Terminal 1 between escalators from Concourses C and D.

Here's another article about it with a picture.

    With $300,000-$400,000 rent, they'd better.

Clever idea. I shudder to think of the prices.

""Because the Liquor Library is in outside security, passengers won't be able to take bottles with them on a plane"""

What would also do well would be a " NIP SUPPLY LIBRARY " on the secure side :wink2::beer:

I think its nice to see, but will lead to a lot of complaints on forum sites like this one and others because airports always have super high rents and as such the prices aren't going to be that good... most people won't be able to see past the extra buck or two on the price tag to the convenience of buying it there at the airport.

Sadly that's true! I sure will appreciate the convenience of not having to go to the Von's on Twain anymore. I hate that store... crappy neighborhood, so EVERYTHING is under lock and key. Usually I arrive to the baggage area about 5-10 minutes before my luggage... just enough time to whip into the Library, get a few things, throw 'em in my bag and head to the rental center.

hell, people drive half way across town to save 3 cents a gallon on gas. they'll do the same thing with liquor. but some people value convenience and will buy anyway.

OMG! Talk about a cash cow!

Now what they really need is two outlets in there to get some competitive pricing.

I'm curious to hear what the prices are. In the past I have just taken a few bottles of liquor with me in my checked baggage to save the hassle of going to a liquor store once I'm in Vegas. This store is a genius idea and unless the difference in price is significant, I'll be taking advantage of it.

I agree with you and still wonder why Lee's Discount Liquor chose not to follow through when they had the initial contract?:confused2:
Unless, the fees are too high and they figured they couldn't make a decent profit?
With 17 locations in the Valley, they obviously know how to run a liquor business and their prices were always competitive.

They had franchisees fighting over who gets the location and they didn't get it resolved soon enough to start work on the store, violating their contract with the airport.

The prices can't be much worse than the gift shops at the strip hotels. I plan on stopping in in January. :peace:

I googled and have no point of reference as to the "prices on the strip" but here is a blurb......from one article with an obvious misspelling in the 3rd word

Under its leaseeee with McCarran, Liquor Library has to hold its prices to those charged at stores on the Strip.
