I made reservations for a single trip for myself for March 30-April 3. I booked a basic resort king suite. Now I think a friend may be going along. What are the chances that I could get an upgrade to a double queen? Or should I just change the reservation and pay the extra $$?

I'd change it... I mean there's a chance you may have to sleep with your friend haha. I've run into that before. If it's people I absolutely will not share a bed with, I make sure to have 2 double beds reserved.

I prefer to pay for the upgrade. Its usually somewhere around $30 (atleast at Aria it was) and I like to have peace of mind.

Unfortunately, Encore doesn't have a ton of Queen rooms (rooms are slightly larger it appears, big l-shaped couch). Luckily I was able to upgrade on site (paid the upgrade fee), but I think I got pretty lucky. The rollaway cost wasn't much different than the upgrade fee so it was a no-brainer. I'd probably just change the reservation if I were you especially if you are going on a weekend.
