I usually leave a 5 dollar tip when I get my room cleaned. I only get it cleaned every other day. I always leave the tip on the dresser, and don't leave any money laying around. One day I left 3 25.00 chips laying on the tv by accident. Of course the maid thought it was a tip and took it. I am now very careful about what I leave lay around.

I also got reprimanded one time for asking for a maid. Housekeeping is the correct term.

I typically leave the tip right on the pillow.

3-5$ dollars but like clean sheets and a reconstructed room. So I do it every day. Solo maybe every other due to # of towels and stuff.

IMO, she should have known better and left it behind.

I tip 3-5 bucks a day, leaving by the housekeeping door thing or their name card if there is one.

Pretty sure they are not suppose to except chips.
Most rooms have the housekeepers name on a card so you know who it is. I leave tip in a cup/glass on the bed sitting on the card when we leave.

I agree. She shouldn't have touched the chips. I utilize the hotel's stationary and pen and write "For Housekeeping. Thank You" and leave the note with the tip.

Why would you leave chips juat laying around? would you have left $75 in cash laying arund like that?

its only 3 chips, they fit in a pocket pretty easily.

We leave a daily tip folded with a simple note ' thank you for doing a lovely job' with a smiley face and always leave it on the nightstand along with the housekeeping card, if there is one. Many a time we inadvertently left small tito's and they were always in the same place on our return - I believe the note or money next to their card is their clue that it is for them. It would be really simple if the hotel left out envelopes for tipping for those who choose to do so (I've seen these at a couple of motels, but not in Vegas in my experience).

My routine is to put my "pocket dump" of change in the nightstand drawer every night. Somehow, I end up with between 2.00 to 5.00 in change every day. At the end of my trip, I just put all of that in the envelope that they leave for that purpose. Most Vegas hotels seem to have these. It works out to a pretty fair amount for my usual 3-4 day stays.

I have wondered if it would make any difference if there was a daily tip left for the housekeepers. Never had poor service. But, what if...?

I've often thought about doing this style of 'pocket dump' but thought it could have the opposite effect.

Would appreciate feedback from people working in the industry as to whether they are turned off by a heap of coins; or if any tip is a good tip.

I bet any form of consideration would be appreciated. I've even thought about those pesky 2.00ish titos as a tip. But, I've never seen any housekeeping people in the casinos where they could cash them in.

II had never occurred to me to leave housekeeping a tip until I saw it mentioned on here a few moths ago. I still have trouble remembering to leave one for them, whether in Vegas or the semi local casino I spend an occasional night at.

Just what I do. Leave my coins in a cup and top it off with bills for the tip as I leave.

He said it was on accident.

We write a note and place the tip money on that, on the sink.

only issue with that is that you will likely not have same housekeeper every day, so only the last one gets tipped.

also, if you tip every day, they might do a little extra while you are there-we usually ask for extra coffee, etc..

That would never be an issue. IIRC tips are pooled, even with housekeeping, so it would all get turned in to the shift supervisor or such, then divvied out on payday, end of the week, whatever. Any TITOs, chips or whatever would just get turned over to the cage and cash gotten for the pool instead.

We always leave at least $5/day. More if we made a mess. More if we're winning. More if we just feel like it. This last trip housekeeping also got a Coldstone Creamery gift card/day because it was Christmas.
