    Hello everyone,

I am a female, travelling to Vegas this trip, solo, and I will be at the El Cortez Sat. the 26th, to see the Elvis impersonator show. Probably will be leaving around 8:00 p.m.

My question is, do you think it would be safe to take the bus back to the strip? Staying at Monte Carlo or should I catch a cab?

If memory serves me correctly, the bus stop back to the strip is my Walgreens isn't it?

Just want to make sure waiting for the bus would be safe. If not, I will take a taxi.

    Kindly,
    K-9treatbaker

You should be perfectly fine taking the bus. I have done a couple solo trips and have always relied on the bus and have always felt safe and haven't had any problems. Yes....you catch the bus kitty corner across the street from walgreens (the deuce) or if you want to take the SDX (quicker bus with less stops) that one is at the other bus stop over near binions.

    BUS

    Thank you for the information.

    I really appreciate it.

Now, I know I will take the bus and save some cash. LOL

Kiddy corner from Walgreens? There was a Walgreens across the street on LV Blvd that closed and moved over to 4th st where the northbound bus stops, unless they reopened the LV Blvd. store again (since May).

Leaving the El Cortez you can walk across the well lighted and patrolled Courtyard to LV Blvd, or exit on Fremont and walk west to LV Blvd and cross the street. The Deuce stops southbound just north of corner of LV Blvd and Fremont street (as of May 2013 at least). there are benches and always lots of people heading south as well as police video surveillance.

So when you get mugged on that corner, the Police will have plenty of video to help solve the case? Is that right?

There is safety in numbers. Wait for someone who is leaving the ELCO and seems to be walking that way and tag along.

Its very well lit and as safe as anywhere of the well traveled areas downtown. I wouldn't hesitate as a single woman who navigates Vegas alone quite often to wait there, even at night. I did it twice last trip!

This is unnecessary. There is nothing unsafe about that walk.

October 26 is the Life isBeautiful festival. You may have a tough time getting in to or out of El Cortez that day/night without a Life is Beautiful ticket.

Link to an article showing anyone getting mugged/raped there in the past?

    Agreed.

Oh, I never thought about the Life is Beautiful festival.

Downtown could be crazy. I may call the El Cortez and ask their opinion about getting in to see the Elvis show.

    Thanks for the info.

you will be fine. there are always tons of tourists in line to get the bus to the strip at night.

You can catch the bus on casino center as well and there are lots of people waiting to catch it there.

I have walked from EC back to Fremont street every year during the day and late at night and there have most often been plenty of people, especially this past year with the restaurant open with outdoor seating on Fremont Street. I mentioned video because the question was about safety. Video isn't installed to capture pictures of people getting mugged but rather as a preventive measure as well as monitoring for quicker response time if there are problems. I cannot believe people think of downtown as crime wridden and dangerous.

Thank you Nevada for the info on the boundries of the festival. Looks like I am back to seeing Trent Carlini at the LVH. I'm not going to buy a ticket just so I can go to the El Cortez. LOL

This is becoming a roller coaster decision for me. LOL Anyway, I will avoid downtown until Mon. I love downtown, but like it a little less crowded.

Are you able to go to the Friday (25th) show instead?

To be honest, I don't know how they are going to handle people who just want to go to the El Cortez to gamble or see the show. Doesn't seem to be any info on their website. Perhaps give them a call/email to see if you'll be able to visit during the festival.

I am just going from the press releases, map and the fest website. They all seem to say "no wristband, no access" to that area.

K-9, just seen your post on the 'Shows' page. Sounds OK then to get in then. I might just have a look myself!

I'm also a solo female in town on the 26th. Not worried about walking around that area in the evening. Just use plenty of common sense!

    El Cortez

    Nevada,

I called the El Cortez and the lady I spoke to, said there would be no problem at all getting in their casino, as you know, from my previous post.

And I would think the people for the Life is beautiful festival might be more interested in the bands etc. that are playing, than the El Cortez.. Let's hope so. LOL

Ok, I am a stone cold degen and just booked a trip where I get in Sunday morning the 27th, staying downtown through Wednesday the 30th. It could be crazy down there on Saturday and Sunday but I am not there for the show.

Single woman around the El Co....no problem. There are always some security/officers around and I honestly don't think its the total slum area that many people worry about.

BUT.... that life is beautiful thing will make it a crazy area. Tons of people. I decided not to go that weekend because of the event.

    just my .02$
