We're visiting with my parents who have never set foot in a casino before and have very little idea about the games. If we find an unused, empty table (craps for example) will we be quickly moved on if we start using it to explain the game to my parents? I get that they may frown (at least!) if we bring our own dice and start and start playing without dealers but would standing and putting chips down and going through rules and scenarios be something they will stop us doing?

I think they will stop you. I've sat at a empty table to wait for a friend and was told "this section is closed, you need to move".

Take the free lessons offered at almost all casinos. It couldn't be easier. You could get a craps table cover and chips from Amazon for cheap and practice at home before the trip, if you wanted. They won't let you do what you are planning at the casino.

Far better to access some of the videos on the Wizard's site before you go. I just viewed the craps ones in the last few weeks as being a Brit that game is not in my comfort zone. After just an hour or so feel ready to give it a go. Now I have played craps before but I never really understood it, so just knowing some of the main and most basic bets is all you need to start playing.

You can learn all you'll ever need to know about shooting craps in three minutes. Watch how others place wagers and shoot the dice. Play the pass line and take odds on the point. Any table that's not very busy in a nice house might have a friendly dealer who will explain what to do.

Just try not to teach your folks any bad habits, like making ANY wager other than the two mentioned above.

Thanks - we'll definitely give the free lessons a go, might get a craps mat for the dining room if they're cheap enough too

Sure, start tossing your own dice and put chips on the table.
Post back and let us know how long before security arrives. :evillaugh

Lessons are great. I have done the Craps lessons on 3 different occasions.
Then find the open table and do some slow playing and ask more questions. If you do this I suggest placing a bet or two for the dealers to show your appreciation.

Lol, exactly my thoughts... good test of Security's response time.

Have never played the dice table, but plan on getting in on the morning lessons at Monte Carlo in two weeks, and hope to turn that into a couple of fun evening games when the party crowd arrives.

    Yup...100% correct.
    Craps is literally that easy.
1.) Dice in center of table? Yes? Step 2 / No? Wait until they are
2.) Toss cash at Dealer and say "Change please" (Pickup chips as SOON as they're given to you, being mindful where the dice are at; center of table is best)
3.) Is ON/OFF puck WHITE or BLACK (White said says ON; Black side says OFF)
3a) Puck White: Wait until Black
3b) Puck Black: Place chips on the PASS LINE (How ever many you feel like betting, as long as it meets the table minimum which will be clearly posted)
3c.) Dice are rolled...Puck is now White? If Yes, proceed, if no, pickup winnings or replace losing bet on PASS LINE
3d.) Puck is white: Place $10 behind your PASSLINE chips
4.) Pickup winnings if dealer pays you, replace loser if dealer takes your chips
    5.) Repeat step 3.

That's all you ever need to know to place the Best Game In The House :rolleyes2:

i played home game Craps for years since i was 16... learned from a couple of "boys"
at home when the dice were rolled and after the number was called, whoever was closest to the cubes
would pick them up and send them to the box man...

first time i stepped up to a real game in Vegas was at harrahs when it was the riverboat theme.
buy in, get chips, waiting for next shooter and the dice land by me. i hear the number and pick up the dice
intending to toss them to the center...i get a crack on the hand from the stickman and was told don't ever do that again.. OMG i was so embarrased
