    My Trip Report

6th trip report, probably 12th trip overall.

First time I wasn't going to post a TR. Good time with friends but I lost my ass from start to finish and was quite miserable about it for 2 weeks or so after.

It was my first losing trip after 2 or 3 nice winnning trips. So here's the cliffs...

    5/1 Thursday
    - Met up with a friend from college (A) and his fiancee I haven't seen in 5 years. Also met up with our common friend who was featured in a TR I posted last August (C) who works overseas in Qatar. They were all staying at the Cosmo and I was comped across the bridge at PHo.

    - Thursday started well with my Hollywood Hip room being upgraded to a north tower Strip View via the $20 dollar trick in the diamond checkin.

    - Met up with buddies in the late afternoon at Aria sportsbook bar after putting in some hockey bets. This is where the first turn toward the sour occured. We settle into an empty bar and I'm playing $1 BP and want to test this supposed "new policy" on one drink per 30 minutes. Well, as I relayed in other threads, although it seems very randomly enforced, it is CERTAINLY enforced by the consistent asshole bartender who has the white hair and goatee. I finished my first Crown & ginger in 5 minutes and kept asking "where am I on the timer? how many more minutes? does it matter if I'm playing dollars and I'm a Gold card level MLife member?". "Nope, I'll lose my job. It's the rules". So we say fu*k it and go watch at Book & Stage back at Cosmo. I'm still (a month later) furious at this. Best sportsbook VP bar on the strip has been ruined.

    - Won 2/3 of my sportsbets but played forever at Cosmo at $1 level DDB and hit no quads and lost a few hundred. Ate at Holsteins for the first time with A and it was amazzzzing. Great burgers and alcoholic shakes.

    - Finish the night at Paris playing dice, me on my normal 2 DC strategy with my buddies on the right side. I basically broke even, they lost.

    5/2 Friday
    - Ventured out solo today to get some VP time in and hopefully hit a W2G royal or at least my first quads. Put down a bunch of sports bets at PHo then lost $600 at the Baccarat bar at Bellagio playing $1 7/5 BP with a nice progressive royal and only had 3 bloody marys to show for it.

    - Decide to head to Caesers to my 2nd favorite strip sportsbook bar which had DSTP All Star bartops last time I was there in January. The entire area this bar is enclosed in was walled off with construction going on. Ffffffffuuuuuu. 2 of my favorite sportsbook VP bars on the strip now ruined and Book&Stage still didn't have a working big screen TV.

    - Headed to Flamingo across the street and at another $500 down on the day finally hit my first quad of the trip! It had NEVER taken me this many hours of playing before to get a quad.

Best part is that it hit right after I stopped playing $1 because I realized my bankroll for the trip can't take a cold streak like this.

    - Played craps a while at Cromwell, love the joint and the friendly staff, won a little.

    - Went to Mirage to see Anthony Jesselnik while losing more money at Mirage sportsbook bartops (another great VP bar but pretty far north from where I normally stay). He KILLED, first high point of the trip. So so good.

    - 4/5 sports bets come through, hooray! Lose $200 instantly at 3 hand 25c BP STP at PHo before calling it a night. Ugh.

    5/3 Saturday
    - 3 win bets down on the Kentucky Derby. The favorite and 2 good hunches. Played some dice while drinking with the whole crew before watching the race at Book and Stage.

California Chrome wins! Oh wait.. I come to find when I try to cash my ticket later it wasn't on California Chrome. PHo's wonderful tickets just list horse #, and whoever dialed in my bets hit 7 instead of 6, or basically one off from whichever Chrome was. Fffffuuuuuuu. I'm running terrible at everything.

    - Back to Mirage with A and fiancee to see Mike Birbiglia. Hit a premium quad before the show (dealt!) but didn't make up nearly for how far I was down.

Mike was AMAZING and a really good contrast to Jesselnik the night before. Two completely different styles but both were so good.

    - Whole crew (C and some of his friends) met at Margaritaville for craps. I was down 200 or so on the don'ts and picked the right time to switch sides. First roll I switch sides, it's the longest roll I've ever seen live. 40 minutes or so. I'm only on the inside place bets and go from starting at 10/12/12/10 pressing a unit every hit to having $60 or so on each number when he 7s out. My friends don't press at ALL and the dealers are lamenting how little money was made. I could have been more aggressive but I still made $500 on the roll starting with minimum inside place bets.

    5/4 Sunday & 5/5 Monday
    - Played PHo poker tourny early with A and bubbled the money 7th place, 3 paid. Go decide to find the infamous 8/6 DSTP Boner Deluxe machine at Aria. It's occupied and I lose 300 at normal STP before the lady leaves.

    - Here it gets uglier and uglier. I get murdered not hitting ANYTHING. Playing 3 line 50 cent, I hit ONE quad for $200 without much else over about an hour. I drop an even $1000 before leaving with my tail between my legs.

    - Nobody wanted to go downtown so I never did get to use my D freeplay and matchplay (50/each) and Golden Gate freeplay (25). Sad, I love those two casinos but didn't want to cab it myself..

    - All my sports bets lose and I play some Pai Gow with A who is WASTED until like 3am. They have a 10am flight and I don't fly out til 4pm Monday. He keeps drinking Captain and Cokes and is like 20 drinks deep when I finally leave him. He tells me later he played another hour, he loves Pai Gow and didn't want to say goodbye to Vegas.. good times. One of my better memories of the trip.

    - Monday I sleep late and try to play some STP at PHo but the whole bank of machines is occupied by old people playing nickels. Ffffuuuu. I find an upright machine right across from Planet Dailies that is single line. I hate uprights because my right arm on the deal button always falls asleep, they're so uncomfortable. I feed in $300, lose almost all of it until a premium quad...

Then get down near bust and feed another $300 in. Start hitting, then another premium quad..

And I tell myself nice, I'm now up a little bit, things will finally turn around and I'll hit that 4k royal before flying out to break even on the trip. It was not meant to be and I lost every last bit of that $600 which was the last of my budget for the trip.

Flew out uneventfully, just sad.

    FINAL TALLY
    VP -3800
    Craps +250
    PaiGow +100
    Sports -150

PHo room rack 1463, my price 413 (+1050)
Food comps (RCs and Express Comps): 50

NET: - $2,500. Worst loss of any trip.

    ....

The brightside! Already had a trip booked over Halloween weekend, and between the email I just got for 2 comp Cosmo nights (never stayed there, always wanted to) and a higher level mailer from the D (5 free nights, $100 freeplay, $100 matchplay, $50 food plus Golden Gate $25 freeplay, $25 food), I have a spontaneous solo trip planned for July now. 2 nights Cosmo, 3 nights the D with a D host giving me an upgrade to a suite.

Thanks for reading and see you in July!

Ugh rough ride... Is that -$3800 also after burning through any freeplay? Because at your level of play, I would hope you would have got some this trip.

Sucks about the "asshole" bartender at Aria; I've heard multiple complaints about him on here. But if he has gray hair, then it might not be the same ass I dealt with in June 2012. But maybe the stress of being an ass caused his hair to turn gray! :evillaugh Definitely would boycott that bar until policy is changed. Wonder if BeeeJay et. al. had trouble with him tonight.

As for other sports bar alternatives, I also like Venetian's sports bar. Rarely busy, great TVs for sports, and chill bartenders. Paytables are meh, but I did find 9/6/5 DB (97.81%) for quarters (or more) in Feb. Sorry about out the Aria 8/6 DSTP Boner Deluxe too, especially since I was the first to point it out. Your session on that thing looked like a greatly magnified/extended session of the ones I had on it (and regular STP). Ugh.

The fouled sports bet was icing on the cake. How often does that happen? Damn.

Hope your next trip is tons better on the gaming front! Thanks for sharing! I really appreciate those who write up trips like this. A bunch easier to write up a winning trip.

Thanks for writing this up. And sorry about the beat-down... it'll turn, but that will have to wait till next time I guess, which sucks.

I'm interested to know what kind of coin-in per day at The D you would have to do to get an offer like that. Thanks.

Sorry about your bad luck; I was in Vegas Apr 29-May 6 and also had my first losing trip in a while. Guess I won't be playing VP at Aria, b.s. Drink rule! I love the Book and Stage in spite of the poor paytables....I make up for them in lemondrop martinis. What a ketdown to find your horse had been keyed incorrectly. Better luck on your next trip!

I can't give you exact numbers, but I've played there exactly 2 days.

First was October 2013 while staying at MSS to sign up for players club new member freeplay and Sprit boarding pass matchplay. Played a couple hours of 50c BDX on the Long Bar and started getting 4 nights, 50 freeplay 50 matchplay mailers.

Spent one night there on the offer above before moving to strip for the rest of my stay in Jan 2014. That one night most of my play was a few hours of 50c BDX at the Long Bar and some BP upstairs. Also about an hour of 3 play 50cent STP 8/5 BP.

That's when I started getting host emails and higher FP/MP offers. Guess since I condense so much play into short time periods they think my ADT is higher than it really is.

At this point, I'm fully convinced that it's mostly that one bartender. I spent 4 days at Aria at pretty much the exact same time (8-11 May), played tons of 9/5 JoB at Lift Bar, and not only was definitely drinking more than one drink every 30 minutes (including plenty of Stoli martinis along with several of this amazing blackberry/lime drink involving tons of fresh fruit and looking like a huge pain in the ass to make), but the bartenders there would often comp my girlfriend drinks too even though I was the only one playing, and on more than one occasion gave me a drink for the road after I finished up. I have no idea what that guy's deal is.

With my Cosmo>D trip coming up in July, I'll definitely give it another try and report back. Their paytables are a notch better at $1+ than anywhere else for bartops on the strip and when I have my baseball parlays going it's the only spot to watch 3+ games at once easily.
