My next trip i will not be getting in to vegas until almost midnight on friday night. I will be cabbing it to the hotel and checking in late.. Do they ever run out of regular rooms late and have to upgrade you when you check in late?

I had that happen once, a really long time ago at MGM (like 15 years ago, my first trip to Vegas!). You never know, but I wouldn't count on it. Especially these days, with 4,000+ rooms in all the resorts, I doubt they run out of rooms very often...

I'm actually doing the same thing this trip. Going to show up at MGM between 10 and 11pm on friday night.
I've been told by a couple people that it has worked for them within the last couple years. The theory is that if you're level room is sold out that they have to bump you up to a better room or even a suite and that they won't downgrade you.
Again, I'm going on hear-say but Its supossedly worked at venetian and bellagio by booking a basic room and ending up in a high level suite just by checking in around midnight. (the caviat was that they only were staying one night on both occasions, so i dont know if that makes a difference as well)

If they are only staying one night it might work the other way round.

For example if a high level suite is still unoccupied at 11.55pm it would impress a new customer to get that suite, and it wont affect anyone to have them upgraded.

If that happened to me, I would be a customer for life; even if just in a standard room from then on.

On most days, the plan will work. The exception would be on holiday weekends - particularly on Friday and Saturday nights.
