    My Trip Report

Did another yearly pilgrimage to Las Vegas with a good friend this past May. Breaking the trip down into the following categories:

    Transportation:
Flew from Edmonton Alberta (YEG) to LAS later on a Sunday afternoon. Flight was on Westjet, and flight was uneventful. It was on time, and the (almost) 3 hours went by fairly quickly. As we deplaned in LAS, we bumped into some good friends that were returning back home to Calgary, so we spent 15 minutes chatting with them prior to heading down to luggage where our bags were riding on the carousal all by their lonesome. Snagged the bags, and headed out to the exit to catch the Rental Car bus for transfer to the Car Rental center which is about 5 minutes away. Went up to Enterprise desk and found out that they lost our reservation that we had previously entered via the Canadian Costco site. They said they've had a number of similar issues with the site, but once they re-entered the info, they honored what was originally quoted from the prior booking. Out to the vehicles, grabbed one that looked good, and out to Las Vegas Bvld.

    Hotel: Main Street Station.
Check-in staff at "Main Street Station" were very friendly and helpful. Info gathered, and keys provided in about 5 minutes. Full review can be found here: http://www.tripadvisor.ca/ShowUserReviews-g45963-d91885-r279064744-Main_Street_Station_Hotel_Casino-Las_Vegas_Nevada.html#CHECK_RATES_CONT
Overall impressions of MSS – it was comfortable, clean, and we were happy with what we received. No complaints.

Dining: Ate/drank 3 times at the Triple 7 Brewpub. Beers were cold and great tasting. Had 'appetizers' most of the time when we ordered food, and enjoyed them. Had the MSS Breakfast Buffet 2 of the mornings we were there. No complaints at all for what we got versus the price ($8.99 per person with players card). You can spend that easily just on a Coffee/Juice at most sit down restaurants. We used a 'MyVegas – 2 free breakfast buffets' reward out at "Sunset Station' one morning, and enjoyed the Breakfast Buffet there. Tried a couple 'Prime-Rib' specials during a couple evenings, one at the 'Cal', and one at Magnolias. Both were pretty good. I personally enjoyed the Salad Bar at the 'Cal' which came with the meal, but the quality of meat was better at "Magnolias" at the 4-Queens. Visited 'Black Bear Diner' as our last morning breakfast, and as usual, it was fantastic. They really do an awesome job serving up breakfasts, for reasonable prices.

Bars/Lounges: As mentioned above, visited Triple 7 a few times to enjoy the craft brews there. Hit up Chicago Brewing at the 4-Queens for some of their brews. They were also quite fine. Highlight for this trip was a visit to 'Frankies Tiki Room". What a great place! Dark/dank bar/lounge, but MAN, do they ever serve up some great Rum Drinks.

Gambling: Found a number of the "Shoot-to-win" automated Craps Machines available in a number of the Fremont Steet Casinos. Having a vehicle available, we visited some outlying Hotel/Casinos which are harder to get to like Sam's Town, Eastside Cannery, Southpoint, and Sunset Station. It was out at these Casinos we found lower limits. Sam's Town had $3.00 min. bets at their Craps Table. Sunset Station had $3.00 Blackjack (yes, 6:5 payouts) available, and Eastside cannery had a "Shoot to Win" craps electronic game which allowed $1.00 min. bets.

Entertainment – We went to the free comedy show at the Downtown Grand on Thursday evenings. Even though we were there about 30 minutes prior to the start, it was standing room only. Very small venue, and it seemed to be quite popular. It was an entertaining show for the most part with 2-3 of the comedians providing some good belly laughs. One female performer (I'm horrible at remembering names)… did not so good… and the 'crickets' in the room were a tell-tale sign.

    Over all Impressions:
Weather wasn't NEARLY as warm as we've seen during past trips. Best day was mid-80's, and most days overcast/windy/spotty rain.

People watching on Fremont Street, great as ever.

Frankies Tiki Room – great visit. Fantastic rum drinks.

For low-rollers like us.. Downtown is the place to go. As I mentioned in the TA link above for Main Street Station – it doesn't hurt to enquire with a Host on Duty the night of your last evening of stay at your Hotel.. I was very honest to the lady we met describing ourselves as 'Extreme Low-rollers'…but could she check and see if our play warrants any kind of comps. She was able to remove 3 nights off our stay there at MSS. I call that going home with a Win.

    Thanks for reading.

This is the first I have heard of a free comedy show at the Grand. Do you know if this is a regular thing?

    Thanks for sharing.

Nice report! 6:5 BJ at a Stations property is pretty sad though.

Great report thanks! Staying at MSS for the first time in August. Love gambling there and have been staying at other Boyd properties for years. Very much look forward to this trip!
