    My Trip Report

If that snazzy title doesn't get you excited for a trip report and drive up the numbers to this site, well I don't know what will. I joined the board , I don't know less than a year ago but have been lurking (I sound dirty saying that word) for a while and I feel that I should return the favor for all the entertaining stories and provide mine own. This will be a post trip report as I just arrived back home. I went up with two of my buddies uh D and W. D is a heavy gambler that somehow makes worse decisions than I do. W is the type of guy that doesn't gamble that much, says he's not a gambler will play when talked into and goes off on his own now and again and somehow had NEVER lost when we ask how he did. I tell ya it's uncanny his ROI on solo 17 minute excursions. As for me the hero of this trip and all future ones, I work as a teacher shaping young minds while using craps odds to teach math. I haven't contributed much to this board except for a quick couple of stories about a day trip to a local casino, which I am sure are as enjoyable to read as it was to write. We went May 13th to May 16th. I will write this up in daily installments and as a preview for tomorrow I can promise we will talk about Jean Nevada (for maybe the first time ever on this board..or any board) and the first of many poor decisions for either me D or W (this is not counting our decision to stop in Jean)... See you all soon :)

Jean Nevada, can't be as odd as a few towns in Arizona we traveled through to get to the Grand Canyon....felt like we were in the Twilight Zone.

Coyot247, since authorities have THANKFULLY located the whereabouts of one Sinead O'Connor (FINALLY!), I turn my nervous anticipation to this report you speak of writing.

    Let's get going, buddy.

    Friday May 13th (PART 1)

Okay just to set the scene, both myself D and W all work at teachers at different schools. D is divorced and seems to somehow have the kids all the time, but he actually manned up and was able to get away from an extended weekend. I had a room at the Rio comped (save for the resort fee..lame). D had a room at the Strat (LOL) that he said was a good deal, only 150 for the 3 nights! Poor guy, doesn't have a clue. Anyways, we all worked on Friday, (we live in So Cal, I think I forgot to mention that) and I actually dropped my car off at a teacher who lives right next to the school I work out and by 330 we were heading towards Vegas and getting ready to drive through Barstow.

Conversation went like this: D "Let's stop and get something to eat" W "Yeah I'm starving" Me (In my head, are y'all crazy we only have so many free hours and we are heading to Vegas we can make it another few hours you losers) IRL "sounds good". So we stopped at um..I don't remember and thankfully I had to TALK them into getting it to go. Sheesh. Drive to Baker was just as fun as can be. Nothing like staring at endless desert thinking about the 16 minutes we just wasted at the Carl's Jr in Barstow. (I remember now! Crappy Carl's Jr in Barstow). Got through Baker without an issue and D popped up to inform us that we are stopping in Jean at the Gold Strike..Gold Spike...Gold Crap, it really doesn't matter, D was driving and this was stop number 2 I didn't want to make. But being the trooper that I am, I smiled, nodded and said "That's a great idea!!" (So now on the drive to vegas we have stopped at Barstow and the Gold...something)

We pulled in and we got a spot in the front row. Um, I don't know the last time that I was able to pull into a casino at around 530 pm on a Friday night and park in the front row. Oh well maybe all the real gamblers park in the back or something. We walked in and like a scene in the movie, I looked left, saw nary a person, looked right and somehow saw less people. Both D and W had to use the restroom (remember the Carl's in Barstow folks? It was very quickly rearing it's ugly head..no pun intended). I walked to the bar, and there was one man playing and one lady bartender staring off into the distance. Maybe thinking about the Carl's Jr in Barstow..I don't know, but she wasn't ambling over in a very quick fashion. Actually, she wasn't ambling over at all. I am NOT the guy that yells at people, so I just stared at her while she stared thinking about bad hamburgers in Carl's for what felt like 19 years, but what was probably closer to 45 seconds. Either way that was way too long before I got my first bud light lime of the trip. (Please people, I have heard it all, so whatever you can say, save it. Unless it's really funny, then share please!) Got my beer (2 bucks in case anyone wants to drive out to Jean for the amazing service) and took a quick tour of the place. It had 4 tables. 1 table was open. 5 to 100 blackjack that played 3 to 2. The dealer looked mad to be standing there (who could blame her) so I didn't sit down. I counted 2 people playing at machines, so with me, D, and W, we were now 60% of the customers. While D and W were making their deposits, I sat at one of those blackjack machines with the big screen and the lady with the large bazingas who never quite looks at you even when she's looking at you. The min was 11 big dollar and I put 40 in saying to myself, "what's the worst that could happen??" Bet 2 dollars win, bet 2 dollars win, bet 2 dollars win, bet 2 dollars double - win. Bet 2 dollars - blackjack. Well, no wonder D likes to stop here, you never lose!! So I said 5 dollars it is big bazinga lady who isn't really looking at you. (Maybe she is thinking of the Carl's in Barstow also?) 5 dollars lose, 5 dollars lose, 10 dollars lose...(wait a minute, something has changed) I had like 37 in there or 29 or some hilarious amount. Bet it all...Guess whattttttt 20 for the hero BLACKJACK for thoughtful bazinga lady.

So now I'm 40 in the hole, I'm lonely because my friends are still visiting CJ's wasteland in the restroom and somehow I have had like 3 bud light limes. (For the record, the cocktail waitress was awesome, I mean, when it's pretty much a 1 to 1 customer to CW ratio, it's hard not to be, but she WAS quick) So I pulled 60 out of my pocket (BTW my bankroll is 2k and if I have to I will go get another 2K, D is I am still not sure, W is like 14 dollars) put it in the machine. Get dealt 18. TBL deals herself an ace...shocking. But even more shocking she flips over a 6 and bam hand over. Stay on soft 17 (And 3-2 BJ). So I start putzing around at the 2 to 5 dollar level again, and my friend W joins me. D says he stops here because he always stops at the one BJ table and it's like an ATM for him. Turns out he was right, he ran 100 to 300 without ever breaking a sweat. W, the non gambler finds a 20 deep in his wallet and is betting 1 dollar a hand. Oh well, the Bud light limes were flowing and we were having a good time. (IN JEAN!)

Well I did another lose lose lose lose lose lose F'IN LOSE LOSE LOSE LOSE thing. I went broke with that 60 I had put in and so was now in 100. I put a cnote in and said well I am getting my money back...well TBL said no you aren't and deals me 19 vs her 20. S H O C K I N G. So here comes my first bad decision of the night. 2 c notes go sliding in the machine. (Wait I am going to be down 400 if I lose this hand, and it's still like 630, and it's still JEAN. YIKES!) so I put 200 in. Get dealt the worst card in the deck, 7. Dealer shows her card, 7. I said come on 4 ball. 4 ball came! I was like oh brother I was JK. So I put another 200 in there. (SOMEHOW I WILL BE DOWN 600 if I lose this hand on stupid 1 dollar TBL blackjack.) I get a 9 for 20. I stood up and told W. Watch this, she's going to pull a 4. Surprise surpise she pulls a 4 for 11. I saw myself putting 1K in the machine once she flipped over a picture. losing that, being down 1600 and ruining the trip in JEAN. However, the gambling Gods smiled upon me as she went 4 for 15 8 for 23. I don't know how they do it in Vegas, but in JEAN that's too many. I putzed around some more. I talked D into playing on the machine and he got hot and basically won another 100. The best hand was his last one. He had 69 dollars in there (I know I know) and was dealt 3 - 3. Dealer had a 6. So in our drunken Bud Light Lime stupor, we couldn't figure out how to get more money in there in time, so he STAYED on 6. It was great. Dealer busted. He walked out a little over 300 ahead, I did the same, and W left like 11 cents up or down. Who knows.

Finally, we were on our way to Vegas. I watched JEAN fade into the distance, and wondered if TBL was still trying to look at us..

In Part 2 Friday May 13th, one of the 3 of us makes a horrible decision, one of us wins, and one of us gambles for about 3 seconds. We hang out at the Strat (LOL) and head to downtown for a little bit...coming soon!

I love the way this story is written... and hey bud light limes are pretty damn refreshing, i can't lie. I am disappointed in the poor review of Carl's Jr., but the storytelling more than made up for that. Can't wait for the next post.

Friday May 13th Part 2 (The time D made nothing but bad choices)
Thank you to everyone that chimed in. I try really hard not to be anti food places because I can usually find something I like...but I was nervous about the CJ's in Barstow.

    Anyways, onwards and upwards...

As we approached the Rio, we made a plan. As with most plans, especially in beautiful Las Vegas, things went down the crapper, and oh boy they went down the crap shack in a hurry. Let me preface this by saying, I make terrible gambling decision all the time (You are going to read about mine soon enough) If you search me, you can find two of them at Pechanga on here. I lose more than I win. So far all I have shared are winning stories. Since I started writing on here, I have been pretty hot at gambling, but overall like many of us I am lifetime down. I get mad and chase. I get drunk and chase. I chase, and I chase. ALL THAT BEING SAID. My buddy D is a bigger idiot than I am..

Now knowing all that, as we approached the Rio these are my exact words "Look idiots, I have checked in online, I am going to check in, drop my bags off, wave to the pretty ladies dancing, take a Lyft (HALF OFF RIDES!!) and literally be at the Strat (LOL) before you probably finishing checking in or within a few minutes of...DON'T MAKE ANY STUPID DECISIONS!!" D looked at me with a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye and said "I don't know what you are talking about" Right there, I knew his trip was doomed.

Checking in at the Rio was as promised a breeze. I was in my room 4 minutes after walking through the doors. Room 312. I was WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY up there. And by WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY up there, I mean I could lose all my money, jump out the window (If it opened) and not know that I jumped off anything. Whatever, I wouldn't spend much time in the room anyways. As I walked out, I noticed room 310 was "on and poppin" or it was "lit" as the kids would say. HMMMMM, I wonder if that would be a factor in a vacation. (Spoiler alert, yes) Anyways I contacted lyft, found the lyft pickup (if anyone is interested it's out back past the buffet)

Lyft arrived as I do like we were shooting a promo for them, and we were on the way to the strat (LOL) in moments. I was literally walking into the Strat (LOL) 10 minutes after I got into my man's 2016 Elantra. Cost me 4.24 and with tip 8.24. I love Lyft. I call W to see what's up. He answered and said D is at the table already. I said how is he doing.."down 100" was the response. Sigh, but hey it's not the end of the world. I hustled in and found D at the blackjack table. (Btw, they hadn't made it to check in yet...bags sitting next to him... TRUE DEGEN) W was in line I guess. So I come over to my buddy and say what's the temp here man how we doing. Mumbled response. I said what? "down 200" Okay this was taking a turn for the worse in a hurry. If you have been to the Strat (LOL) you guys know pretty close to the tables is a restroom. It is located next to one of those Deal or no Deal "Deal only" machines. They should call it "No one ever gets a deal, and when you do no matter what you pick 75 cents slot". But they would probably get less business if they named it that, but I digress. So if you know the restroom, you know its a 43 second walk, a 43 second tinkle and power wash, and a 43 second walk back to the table. I come back just in time to see the friendly Strat (LOL) dealer swiping D's chips. I see the reach for the wallet. How we doing buddy? "Down 300" Wonderful. I said okay I am sitting down buddy let's change this up. It was a single deck 10 dollar table. I don't know if it was 6:5, 3:2 or FU:FU but I just wanted to help my buddy out.

One of the first times I ever went to Vegas I stayed at the Strat (LOL) and I won won won. Ever since than they have taken that money back about 10 times over again. I am very careful about the amount of pesos I posse up at the table there because of this. I sit down and we were happily just playing 10 dollar to 15 dollar hands. Win a little lose a little whatever. I think I had a couple of Corona's? (Drinks are getting a little hazy at this point. The BLL's have quite a kick!) D swapped to something green. Maybe he was trying to get some of that green back into his life, I don't know. So W comes over, and says room is ready. I looked at chips. I had 130 (Bought in 100) I said well I never win here, so why start now. I bet the 30 and said win or lose, that's it for me. D says the same thing. He had about 190 in front of him. I said ehhh, bet 10 and if you win now you are only down 200. I saw that twinkle in his eye again, the one that says "Now buddy, you know I can't do that". Slides out the 190. We get the "checks play" call. I think they do that so everyone around you can take a gander at the idiot in 3rd base and see how much he is about to lose. I get dealt picture picture. My buddy sighs, and flashes 17. Dealer shows a 10. (I think it was red?) She checks for blackjack, and what do you know...I have literally never seen a bigger Ace of Spades in my life. Okay I said let's color up (and by saying it plural I meant just me) and go up to the room, drop the stuff off and head to downtown (The destination for all teachers on a Friday night in Vegas). I get my black chip and say to myself "Man 5 years ago I would have for sure bet that 100 cuz losing that 30 would destroy my soul" . Man have I matured (That lasted about 24 hours, don't worry that guy is coming back.. fast) I look over at D. He took one step away from the table, and said NAH. Pulls out 4 C Notes. Says "I'm due" (Solid logic) I said come on buddy, we have been in vegas 11 minutes dude let's not make any ATM trips this early. Return of the twinkle and the "I got this" look, and I left him alone. W said you idiot 100 times in the 18 seconds it took to trade in the 400 for 4 black chips. I was chatting up the dealer during this time and I said, Betsy (I think her name was Betty, but BLL remember) I said Betsy, does this seem like a good idea. I picked up one of his bags..look we aren't even in their room yet. She gave me the "Sir, it's his money he can do what he wants" routine. I said see she doesn't think it's a good idea either. She looked at me and said "I didn't say that, I just thought it" Hey an actual funny moment from the Strat (LOL).

Anyone following along is going to know how this ends up. He shows us his first card before he looks at it. and gets 3 frowns. One from me, one from W, and one from a man walking by saying "this is a bad idea" before vanishing. Anyways, you know it's the 6 of clubs. Next card 10 thankfully. I said thankfully because if it was a 4 or 5 he would double and that would well, not be good. Anyways so he has his 16 and S H O C K I N G L Y, the dealer has an Ace showing. This time it was the Ace of Spades cousin, the Ace of clubs. Not as big, but just as menacing. No insurance Betsy..Betty... or maybe it was Hannah? I don't know. Anyways, she doesn't have it. He hits and gets a 3!!! 19!!!! Well, he should have hit again, because underneath that not so friendly A of Clubs was the 9 of clubs and at the Strat (LOL) they do actually count the Ace as high and 11 + 9 = 20 which is indeed one more than 19. (Teachers remember, I can do that math fast) Bang down 800, and it wasn't even 8:00 pm yet.

I am going to zip through the rest of Friday night because quite honestly I don't remember much of it.

We went and played at Binion's I had 55 bucks in cash back and 30 in free play that I turned into God know's what. Nothing great either way. I had over 100 dollars in comps there. Still have most of them :) D lost 100 very painfully at another blackjack table. We ended up at El Cortez. Me and D played on the same table for quite a while. I won 100. I counted my chips once and it was exactly 200, so I said well when I double up playing slow like this, it's time to leave. D called me a name that rhymes with wussy. W had run off 3 times while watching us and SOMEHOW won money on machines. 250 bucks he said. Now I am not calling him a liar, but again, he's never come back and said he's lost so, either he's the world's greatest slot player (On min bet btw) or something doesn't exactly add up. But whatever, he has fun. D ended up losing 200 more there. He lost over 1000 the first night and had about 18 bucks in his wallet once we got back to the Strat (LOL). I lyfted back to the Rio, and said well I don't want to play for 8 minutes before I fall alseep, so I will just make it up tomorrow (And boy did I).

    So Total's after one day
Yours Truly + 521 (I NEVER have a good first day. EVER)
D - 1100 (He NEVER has a good first day. EVER)
W ask him and he will tell you whatever number you want to hear...

    Coming on Saturday
I go rogue to the Gold coast, Palms, Cromwell and the Mirage.
We end up on Boulder HWY and do the Joker's Wild, Cannery, Sam's trail of tears trip. I make the first of MANY piss poor decisions. Saturday was full of them.. Until tomorrow..

Wow. This is off to a great start! And what is D's issue, with that level of degeneracy, shouldn't he have his rooms covered and not having to actually pay to stay at the Strat (LOL)? The (LOL) kept cracking me up. Is he not getting rated???

My buddy D.. Man he's the worst. His problem is he plays at the table min for 27 minutes, get ticked off and bet 8 million dollars, lose and leave. Never gets rated well for that.plus he literally never touches the slots and you know the casinos want the slot players... I promise Saturday and Sunday in this trip report is one big mess.. Once I start making ridiculous decisions, it's all downhill because I'm sadly the brains of this group. And that ain't saying much

Indeed it is. I'm enjoying his report!

I have a story to share about Bud Light Lime. On one of my past trips I was playing slots at NYNY. The CW came by and asked if I wanted a drink. I said "Bud Light Lime, please."

She came back and gave me a Bud Light....with a Lime wedge....

    I'm serious.

So beer comes in flavors? Seriously, I did not know that - or is this an inside joke? (non drinker here)
