I don't think Pat McCarran would be happy.

This almost seems to be something with a hidden agenda. Why in the world would you try to fix something that is not broken.

"Aviation experts largely agree the airport name for a city the size and prominence of Las Vegas matters only in a metro area with more than one airport, such as Houston or New York. Airline and independent booking websites are geared to the city, not the airport."

That being said, it does not hurt to have a name on the stupid thing when you have only one international airport. It's not as if someone from Beijing will confuse McCarran/LAS with something else.

"the authority staff was directed to ask the airport staff about a range of prices of and possible passenger gains from a rename. Board member Chuck Bowling asked that the report concentrate on whether Las Vegas International would actually attract more visitors or flights."

In my best Mr. Burns voice. "Smithers change the name of that airport, it will mean more people from Asia will travel here!"

The people who think this stuff up are never in touch with reality.

Its like when busnesses change their names in hops of drawing in all kinds of new business. It never works and costs millions of dollars and confusion.

Its never, ever the front line personnel who think thses things up. never.

The D? will that really draw in all sorts of new people? it might initially until they realize its not a new place, its fitz.

LOL, just wait until you are involved in a project where an organization pays thousands to an outside firm for them to suggest names (or new names) for an organization or program!

DMR, it makes you wonder if Goodman has someone she knows who wants to conduct that study? Or, someone who will make money off of new signs? Just made me think, how much will it cost the city to replace every sign that says McCarran.

Could be, but isn't McCarran run by the county and not the city?

I still say that this is all because somebody needed something to do. :)

They will probably tack on more rental car taxes to cover it. I spent almost ten years in that industry and never seen a place where the tax is nearly as much as the car rate, until I rented a car in Vegas. Ridiculous.

Could be right. New ideas or changes coming from my old work place always involved some kind of perk to someone....examples.....forced clients onto a new isp when their old contract was up...new isp was started by an execs friend, er, i guess biz partner. Mail room was asked to do the cost thing on in house scanning......another execs "brother" was starting a scanning company.

on the postive side all those signs will create jobs..... :) :)

Why not just change it to Las Vegas-McCarran International Airport?
