Perhaps they could keep the 'sports' theme of the existing LVC and create a large sports watching area, with decent food and drink options easily ordered from your seat. Most sportsbooks seem to focus on showing as many events as possible simultaneously but this place could have only one or two games on at once on the main screens (you could still watch obscure horse races on small televisions at your table/booth) to create an atmosphere where everyone is watching and cheering the same event. Make it THE PLACE to watch sports downtown, aiming to keep it filled with sportsfans during the day at weekends, beginning with English soccer games at 7am on Saturdays.

Like I've been saying in the DTG threads, give us a clean place with good value, good food and don't be cheap with the comps. With so many casinos moving toward the party pits and dancing dealers, the LVC should go in the opposite direction, giving the people who are being pushed out of places like the D and the Golden Gate a place to go. And the way to do that is...

No 6\5 blackjack. In fact, I would go all out and make every blackjack table double deck with good rules. Market it as Vegas's best blackjack and make it THE PLACE downtown for the serious player. Do the same with the Video Poker.

No resort fees. Resort fees have no business at all downtown, and I would promote the hell out of that too. Make "We don't nickel and dime you with resort fees" one of the slogans and post it everywhere.

Find a food gimmick to bring the people in. Like the old Shrimp Cocktail at the Gate, or even the old Steak and Eggs special they used to have at the coffee shop upstairs. Or if you really want to bring in the crowds, find a way to put an In N Out Burger in the place.

Be loose with the comps. When I go to Vegas, I give the casino I stay in probably 90% of my play. The more people staying in the casino, the more people playing at your tables.

Give away random stuff at random times. There have been times when I've been playing in the Cortez and people have been walking around handing out White Castle burgers or slices of Pumpkin Pie. It's a small gesture, but a very cool one. Have other random giveaways, like the pit boss announcing the next blackjack player to be dealt aces gets a $10 food comp or something like that. Small gestures that give the player something for free that the other casinos don't offer go a long way.

Have a good beer selection, and offer a beer of the month. It would be pretty awesome if I could get an Allagash White or a Smuttynose Old Brown Dog Ale when I'm playing. A simple idea, but one that offers something the other casinos aren't doing.

A fun mix of music played at decent level. You want people to hear it, but you don't want people to be drowned out by it. You're at a casino, not a club. You can play modern music, but you can also mix in everything from Sinatra, to Earth Wind and Fire to Led Zeppelin and keep everybody happy.

And most importantly, emphasize good service. One of the things I love about the Grand is the service. Everyone is so friendly, from the dealers to the pit bosses to the drink girls. Make sure everybody is smiling and cheerful. Have them ask for, and remember your name. Tell them to be engaging and not just roboticly deal the cards. Good, personal service goes a long, long way with me.

Some people here have been saying that the days of good value for your buck are gone and are a thing of the past, but they are wrong. There is a market for the person who wants to sit at a slot or a table and gamble without all of the dancers, the lousy odds and the resort fees. If they marketed the casino as "Vegas the way it's meant to be." and really stood by that, they would be a huge success. Especially as the rest of the casinos go in the opposite direction.

If not the Grand, then why not the Vegas Club?

A big sports book, close the one at the D. No other place would be like that downtown.

I hope they bring back the lobster claw machine!!

Seriously though from a business point if view they could make it something special.

if they make that back room a sports book then no one will go to it except the bums who are camping ut on the sidewalk in the first place.

they need to blow out that ceiling and open the whole casino up all the way back.

Dont get me wrong here as I am just talking from a money making point of view but if they make the place too many then women wont want to go there. downtown you have couoples so if the women aint happy there then the men cant go either.

Never heard a lady say they cant wait to get to vegas to hang around the giant sports book. Some do god bless them but not all.

What they also need along these lines is a party pit for the ladies. Loads of bikini gilrs dealing cards but why no beefcake pit? It would be the only one in town and they could come in bachlorette groups or ladies night out things. Hunky guys serving drinks. hell, I honestly would rather get a beer from a guy server because they understand way better how much i value the beer over a young woman and would be prone to bringing them faster to me.

The women are nicer to look at by far but beer is beer after all!!

All sounds good, but you do realize the buyer is the owner of the D and the Gate. Seems highly unlikely they would go against what works for them. The party pit stays, but crappy rules for BJ plus the addition of CSM. If the hotel is reopened, expect resort fees almost the same price as the room itself. As long as there are enough fools willing to play 6:5 CSM BJ while looking at titties, Derek will oblige. Me, I'm more than willing to sit at the bar drinking while looking at said titties. I'll save my gambling money for better odds casinos.

I'm so old, I actually stayed in the club when Jackie owned it and it was thriving. I'm certain that the hotel will be reopened. There is nothing wrong with the hotel, Tamares closed it because, after they chased away all their customers, they couldn't even fill the Plaza, so it became a cost cutting measure. That began the downhill slide for the Club. I stayed there right before the hotel closed, and they had actually remodeled a lot of the rooms. When Tamares bought all the furnishings from the Fontainebleau, they had more than they needed for the Plaza, so they did the LVC rooms also.

There is an escalator to the second floor, which has been closed so long most people have no idea it exists. But, the second floor used to be where the coffee shop was. The back area by the Cal and the front desk for the hotel, used to be the coolest sportsbook in Vegas. They used to have the old chalkboards and hand operated odds postings. That space has since been tired out for just about everything you can think of, but its a difficult area because its separated from the casino. Personally, I think they should make it into a great sportsbook, like the Westgate (old Hilton) and make it THE place for sports downtown. there are only 2 decent books downtown now, the GN and the Plaza. But the GN is small. Put in a bar with a lot of craft beer taps

My guess, and its only a guess, is that they won't have the dancers there. With the GG right across Fremont, I would think they would try something different so that they don't cannibalize the GG. I like rolling the bones at the D and the GG during the day, but I also can't stand the volume at night. By the way, neither place has any 6:5 BJ.

The Stevens' are smart. The completely redid the old Fitz, made it modern, and rebranded it because no one cared about the Fitz. They wisely did the exact opposite with the GG and kept the historic features and marketed the history. they realize that there are different ways too skin a cat, but in Vegas, you have to make your property somewhat unique. It'll be very interesting to see what they do to the Club.

my mistake re: 6:5, but they sure have the CSM, at least at the gate. I prefer dbl decks so I can count and adjust my betting by the count. can't do that w/csm. I'm a lower roller, actually playing more VP these days to qualify for comps. I love the Gate to hang out a drink w/my fav bartender V, but don't actually gamble there. Would love to see LVC succeed and maybe become another hangout.

    Two quick things:

    1) Derek Stevens stated on Twitter after the purchase that he's all for 3:2 blackjack and 10x odds on craps. So I think we can stop with the complaining about 6:5 BJ; that isn't going to happen.

    2) Do we think this means LVC will become an official partner of the Fremont Street Experience? That would get all the casinos under the canopy as members, leaving out only Plaza and DTG. That should help bolster marketing and make FSE an even more unified group.

    1. I read that also which is good news. No 6:5 crap like the strip.

    2. From everything I have read Derik has been a big supporter of FSE so that should help with marketing/funding for them. Hopefully also he will have more pull with cleaning up some of the people that hang out for money down there.

Keeping the sports theme would be interesting. Having a huge sports-book / sports-bar area would be a hit during football season and March Madness but I wonder how it would go over during non-sports times of the year.

He twitted that he's dedicated to 3:2 BJ and 10x odds. So, I don't see that changing for LVC. He also said that they just bought the name and the property. Nothing in it. So, all new tables/machines it sounds like.

Yeah I hope he cleans up the people hanging out for money. There could be a new thread on just that. That is a gigantic pet peeve for me down there. Also the weirdos in costumes like the brownish yellow Spongebob. He is supposed to be just yellow.

I would like to see the dancing dealers from The D moved to Las Vegas Club. This way you have the two smaller places with the party pits. The D would be great if it could be a quieter more conventional type of casino. Also, the players clubs being combined would be great.

Have friends out there now. They are friends with several of the bartenders and waitresses. Management only informed them after the article came out. They are closing at midnight Sunday, expect the remodel to last one year. Really feel for the employees.

I think they should rename it 'The Club'.

    You heard it here first.
