Pls tell me this true !!! I've always liked the LVC for reasons I couldn't explain to even my closest confidants ...even the last few months I've been known to play black chips at BJ ... I'm not even sure why other than I like a cpl of cocktail waitresses and one of the pit crew. Just like the easy feel and low pressure of the place I guess???

"The buyer of the Las Vegas Club is unconfirmed, but a source close to the deal says the new owner is a known quantity in Vegas and will come as no surprise to downtown enthusiasts once announced."

Frontrunner has to be Derek Stevens right? Who else could it be? Well, it could be the Nugget folks. Unlikely. It could be Boyd. And it would make a ton of sense for them.

Could it be the folks that own Four Queens/Binions? I've heard they are strapped for cash due to overinvesting in restaurants and bars around town.

Could it be someone not known for a downtown presence? Possibly, but the phrase 'downtown enthusiasts' makes me think it is someone already downtown.

And doesn't Derek Stevens have a shitload of used machines from the Riviera?....

I am excited to hear this! I hated to watch it's slow and painful demise.
If it is Derek we know he can turn it around!

Glad I wasn't the only one that thought of Derek first. If he is the one buying that, then that can only mean good things. I like the Golden Gate, but it's a pretty small place. That would be a good reason for him to get it. Put all the old vintage slots they took out of The D in there. There's more than enough space for it.

If he can do what he did for The D, and GG then that's going to be a fun place to go.

Its clearly Steve Wynn guys. He's finally realized the real money to be made is downtown.

I don't think he'd last that long with the kind of rules he'd put in for BJ/Craps.

Hope its Derek or Boyd. I would love to see the MSS-Cal-LVC all linked indoors if it's Boyd or a consolidated rewards club if its Derek.

Anyway it would be nice to have another viable downtown property.

Can the rooms be renovated or are they asbestos nightmares like Binions? I think 200 renovated suites instead of keeping the 400 tiny rooms would be the way to go.

A big themed Sports Bar seems like an obvious fit (or a rented space for a chain breastaurant would work too)

    Looking forward to future developments

The only problem is that you definitely would have to shut it down for a bit to really get it back up to speed. The hotel needs serious work before it can reopen, and there is literally no dining on the property (I doubt a new owner would be up for continuing to just send everyone across the street to the Plaza). But on the other hand, I've felt like Tamares has wanted nothing to do with it for years now, pretty much ever since the joint venture with Barrick fell apart.

I can see bartop dancers and long bars opposite each other of the Golden Gate and Las Vegas Club. Lots of people hanging out between the two just enjoying the party atmosphere.

Derek Stevens would own that corner of the Canopy!!

I would bet he's the one who's interested in the LVC.

I heard an interview with Derek a couple of years ago where he said he'd almost bought the LVC once before, they'd agreed a price and he was just about to sign the papers when the other side pulled out.

If it is Delboy that buys it, I think they can follow the formula for success from GG and TheD, a quick makeover and a one destination restaurant - they have DuPar's at GG for Breakfast, and Andiamo at TheD for a posh dinner, so perhaps a mid-tier Beer'n'Burger joint would be something Downtown doesn't yet have.

A good burger place would be nice. Nothing outrageous, but better than McD's. I know, not saying much. But, we don't need a kobe burger place downtown. Give me a nice greasy burger, and a good cold beer.

    Interesting rumor.

My money's on Stevens. The old machines he bought from the Riv combined with him removing a bunch of coin dropper machines from The D recently makes some sense. And without a doubt if he owned LVC, it would bring interest to that end of Fremont Street and the Golden Gate.

Kinda like owning Boardwalk and Park Place downtown.

Boyd would be an interesting prospect but I think it would cost them too much to bring it up to Boyd standards. Stevens isn't adverse to throwing down some new paint and carpets and capitalizing on it like he did with the GG. Old but gritty still sells in downtown Vegas. Heck, it's embraced :)

I hope the rumor is true no matter who buys it. I just love seeing things happening downtown.

If Derek bought it, it'll be the best thing that could possibly happen to Fremont short of tearing down Slotzilla. He did a fantastic job with GG and TheD.

But didn't both Binions and LVC have asbestos issues that have to be addressed before either could reopen the hotel? I know not same owner, but same issue for both.

Joe...with Binion's - yeah - asbestos is a KNOWN issue... with LVC? I don't think that's ever been determined... only speculated (as to why the hotel has remained closed).
They may not have any asbestos problem at all...
If not, I agree with the post up-thread about converting the existing space to suites.

Whoever buys it and whatever is done with it it will be better than it is now. I used to really like that place when Mel Exber ran it. The sports memorabilia, the Great Moments room, it was a fun and lively place.
