Paris has a huge conference center below the shops if I'm not mistaken.

    Cocktails commence at 5:01 pm.

Even better!! Hopefully you won't run into anyone from the conference! No awkward elevator rides when you see a fellow attendee with an escort in the elevator!

You have much more discipline than me... I say Cocktails commence after lunch.... unless you are drinking during lunch?

One thing I might add if you are planning on more business travel, which may or may not apply to you depending on how large your firm is and such. Make friends with your corporate travel people! Yeah, they sometimes have the rep of being the nickel-dime gestapo but I've found it beneficial to get kinda cozy with them. :) I was actually able to get one of their policies changed a while ago (previously they would cover the cost of a taxi to/from your home airport but not covered parking in the winter, which for me is cheaper) and for this coming year they actually expanded it a bit.

I know what you mean. My last company used to be very very strict with policies and would have me pay out of pocket for everything and reimburse after I submitted the expenses. They would also cap hotel rates so you couldn't spend more than $200, which in NYC is tantamount to Motel 6. This new company is much much better and is comping my entire stay at pH, my flight (including the extended weekend), and all food and travel costs associated with my attendance at the conference. It's a nice feeling!

That's awesome that your company is doing that! My mom actually was able to go to Vegas as well through her work and she had a blast! I was jealous though!
