    My Trip Report

Getting there -We drove from Erie, PA to Pittsburgh. I ended up parking in the lot at the airport. $65 for parking. We flew United. They had my money since mid January. I was not happy with them. Without contacting me, they shortened my connection time to 30 minutes. I was scheduled to fly fropm Pittsburgh to Denver to Vegas.(with a 55 minute layover) I called United , and the operator was helpful. I ended up with a flight from Pittsburgh to Houston to Vegas with 1hr 37min in Houston. The second leg was delayed because United's pilots were not there yet! I spent an extra hour in Houston.

Hotel - We stayed at Harrah's. I was comped 3 nights, and we had to pay $50 for Friday night. Check-in took less than 5 minutes. We got there at 11:30 pm.
I had a room on the 29th floor in the Carnival Tower. There was a coffee pot in the room! The room was adequate1 The staff at Harrah's treated my wife and me with hospitality at all times. While checking in, I expressed concern about the noise from Carnival Court and the construction at Imperial Palace.
She said that I would not hear much on the 29th floor. She was correct.

First move once checked in - We went to Casino Royal for a strawberry margarita for my wife and two Michelobs for me.

Eating - Best meal - PF Chang's in Planet Hollywood. Biggest disappointment - the change in hours for the steak and eggs at Bill's. The special price quits at 6am instead of 8am.

Drink service - Great at Harrah's and Margaritaville. Good everywhere but Mandalay Bay.

Downtown - Went downtown on Wednesday. Took the Deuce- Sat on second level. Instead of being miserable, I enjoyed looking out the window. We had a nice steak dinner at Magnolia's in the Golden Nugget. After eating, we met some friends at Mermaids. What a great place to have some drinks. The service was fantastic. The street entertainment was top notch. The group was called Venus Rising. They played Journey, Bon Jovi, and other hits from the 80's. My wife really enjoyed the light show which also featured Bon Jovi.Best time that I ever had downtown. Bus ride back to the strip was fine.

Gambling - Best hit $500 at Harrah's on a $1 Wild Cherry Times pay. Good hit $300 on a $.01 Qwik-Hit at the Mirage. I ended up losing most of my money.

What I learned. - I really hated being stuck in Houston. I should pay more and fly direct on Southwest out of Buffalo. I saved a lot of money by booking my flight out of Pittsburgh ($560 total for my wife and me)
I also showed my cheap side by only having carry-on luggage. Lugging it around the Houston airport got old quickly.

Thanks for posting. I agree, downtown can be fun. Direct flights to Vegas for me, because I am already so excited to get there, I can't deal with a stop!!

Agree about the layover. It's the worst on the way there. I don't mind it as bad on the way back.
