I've never been to an In-N-Out burger.

We don't have in n out in Hawaii so I usually will stop off at one when I'm in vegas. I'm not the food connoisseur and just want something reasonably priced and in n out fits the bill for me. I don't consider it special or anything, just that the place serves cheap meals and since I mostly travel solo I don't want to worry about going to a restaurant for a meal. Different strokes for different folks, no problem, some people don't like the place, others love it.

Last visit to the In-N-Out location near Excalibur was about 5 years ago. Place was beyond mobbed. Literally 30+ order numbers waiting to be served. But we had committed ourselves to going, so.... After a 45 minute wait in a scene of total chaos, we had our carryout meal and ate it a few minutes later back on the Strip. Six hours later I was violently ill from obvious food poisoning, to the brink of requiring hospitalization, and lost the whole next day of our vacation.

Call me irrational, but I won't go back.

    You're irrational.

The likelihood of getting food poisoning from an extremely high volume fast food outlet like the In N Out on Dean Martin (The highest revenue location in the entire chain) is extremely low.

Psychologically, It makes it tough because you are automatically (somewhat understandably, knowing the human psyche) assigning blame, but during this 8-10 hour window, I'm guessing that another utensil, piece of glassware, food item, co-passenger, handshake etc. was the culprit.

Usually with food poisoning it occurs within an hour (or two at most). This has happened to me before and it didn't take very long for me to encounter symptoms of food poisoning (usually within half an hour). 6 hours is a little long and I would expect it was something else you ate or drank, your body would have reacted from food poisoning long before that. It is also possible you encountered that novovirus that vegas had a few years ago, all from touching something that a sick person had touched.

Still, we will not be able to change your opinion that your in n out meal caused your illness but it is true that no place is 100% safe that you won't catch some illness or food poisoning.

For what it's with, I'm a doctor and 6 hours is a typical incubation time for common foodborne pathogens.

Interesting to know. Most times I got some kind of stomach problem it was within an hour or two of eating.

Any and all burger places are worth trying! Even if there is fine dining within reach. Who eats at 5 star restaurants for every meal of the day? Not even people who can afford it. Seriously!
I had dinner at a fancy shmancy restaurant in Vegas once, the bill was outrageous, the food was exquisite. Ended up at in n out immediately after for a double double animal style to actually fill up my belly. Its just felt right! LOL!

Anthony Bourdain is awesome! I watch everything he does, more times than not, an awesome show!

In-N-Out burgers are good. But they aren't the best burgers you have ever eaten.

They're the best you've ever eaten, but you just don't know it. I think Bob has had slightly better at Five Guys, but Pete has been stuck with Burger King, so he's running last. Jimmy however has the intriguing combo of Shake Shack and Whataburger, so he's had a few good burgers. Poor Pete.

I recently had a Hardee's Tex Mex burger and I was surprised at how good it was. I see their ads all the time on TV, but I'm 30 miles from the closest one. I wonder if In-N-Out Burger could handle the demand from a location on the strip?

I've also wondered why there isn't an In-N-Out Burger n the strip. There sure seems to be a lot of demand for it, and in my experience they are head and shoulders above a lot of the other burger joints in properties on the strip.

We just had in and out last week (my second time, my wife first time) and we both agreed that we rather have Wendy's, five guys, smashburger and shake shack (my fav) over in and out any day. But their prices are unbeatable.....

I think it makes a lot of difference in how you order your burger in how much you will love in and out, you can get your burger in so many different ways and many who try it don't understand the lingo or the choices.
This article might be slightly dated but it shows the many ways to order your burger. I'll order mine A Double, Mustard Grilled, Whole Grilled Onion with Sport Peppers cut in half and a Strawberry Shake.

Is there any topic that has more threads than In n Out? I don't really care I ignore threads I don't care about. But is seems like there is a new one about this every few weeks. I have never been to one but hear the comparisons to 5 guys and shake shack and there is no way I am going out of my way to go to one. If there was one in the lobby of my hotel, sure I would try it to see what all of the hype is about.

Can we stop the In-N-Out threads simply because I won't be in Vegas or a location with In-N-Out for another 3-plus months and all these thread do is make me crave a 3x3 animal style...
