So our twice a year trip to Vegas is being interrupted this summer - My husband does not want to go to Vegas. He wants cool mountain air. So it is off to Ruidoso. We plan on staying at a cabin and relaxing -- I told him I do require one day at the casino. We have been there before so I know the layout and what to expect. It has been about 5 years since we last visited. Boo -- on no alcohol on the gaming floor. We never played there much but had fun a few nights in the past.

Anyone know how bad the VP is?? I only dabbled in it our last trip there and now a little serious with it. Last trip to Vegas I only got a couple 4OAK and that was on DW - drew 4 to a royal a couple of times but never got one.

    Thanks,

    Val

I am sure it is fine but have never heard anyone from around here comment on the machines but more on 3 card poker or bj / craps. It is an Indian casino and the drink policy is a little goofy but many return from summer trips with the need to return. Heck, it's over (or close to) 1/2 way to vegas by the time you get there so never really thought about it as a destination. Good luck!

The casino has changed a little bit in the last couple of years but not much. They put in a few more tables and enclosed the poker room, re-did the high limit room. We love Ruidoso, have a house up there, and try to go at least once a month.
Dont play much VP so dont know how that is but we had some GREAT hand pays last year on the $5 slots.

Have you checked out the truck stop casino out on the main highway? Casino Apache, same company. We really enjoy going there for a change.
Enjoy your trip! If your going in the summer, the races are fabulous!

You could have still went to Vegas.
From what I hear, you could rent a car and spend the day in the mountains.
At night come back to the casino.
    Best of both worlds.

The paytables for NM vP are TERRIBLE! (The BEST I found was 9/5 DDB, which is 97.8%!)

I have nothing to offer on the V/P front...but we played there for several hours while driving across the Southwest USA from Las Vegas to Lubbock and on to Houston and I do have two observations:

--no alcohol is hard to get used to in a casino. It wasn't "horrible", it just wasn't great.

--it is the only place where I had the table folks get asked about a purple chip I had by the cashier...by hollering across the room at them--"Is this all good?"..."Yep"...
