    My Trip Report

Hi, peeps! I'm sitting in my room on the 2nd floor at Excalibur (I know, right? Last time we were on the 22nd or 23rd floor, but we asked for a smoking room this time and got sent to the dungeon!).

We left North Carolina on December 3rd by car. Here's a quick synopsis of our trip:
December 3rd - Drove 9 hours and arrived in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee (suburb of Nashville). We spent December 3rd and 4th there and spent time with my sister-in-law and nephew.

December 5th - Drove to Little Rock, Arkansas. Stayed at the La Quinta downtown. We ate at a DELICIOUS restaurant called Dizzy's Gypsy Bistro. I HIGHLY recommend!

December 6th - Drove to Oklahoma City, OK. Stayed at a Ramada Inn near the airport. Got Domino's delivered and watched football. Left and drove around OKC later, not realizing there was an OKC Thunder game at the stadium that night. Downtown was packed and most closed off, so we went back to the room and ate leftover pizza. Domino's makes a bangin' philly cheesesteak pizza. :)

December 7th - Woke up and went to the memorial for the OKC bombing. Very sad. I got chills being there. You can just tell that something terrible happened in that place. Afterward, we left and drove to Tucumcari, New Mexico. Did laundry at the local laundromat. We ate a place called the Pow Wow & Lizard Lounge, which is a local steakhouse and honky-tonk (all in one...the place is tiny!). Stayed at the America's Best Value Inn. The hotel wasn't terrible but wasn't good either. I think we paid $30ish for the night through Priceline, though, so it was worth it for an overnight.

December 8th - Left Tucumcari and drove to Winslow, Arizona. Stayed at a Rodeway Inn that I booked through the "Name Your Own Price" tool on Priceline. Not recommended -- it was definitely a druggie hotel. All ended up being okay, though. We had dinner at a place called Alfonso's Mexican Restaurant -- it was in an old McDonald's building, barely renovated, and was a fast food authentic Mexican restaurant. We had fajitas that were delicious and cheap.

December 9th - Woke up, took a picture at the "Standing on a Corner of Winslow Arizona" sign. Drove to Las Vegas (5 hours?) and checked into Excalibur. Relaxed in the room for a little bit. Showered and dressed, then went downstairs and played the slots for a few hours. Got bored (and broke), headed upstairs so I could get a big Strawberry Rum drink from the Big Chill. Took a cab to Harrah's and went to Toby Keith's "I Love This Bar," which was packed with people from the rodeo. Had a few $7 Miller Lites and headed out. Bought a few drinks at Numb. We walked all the way to Circus-Circus, taking in the views along the way. Played on the slots for a while at Circus-Circus, played a few midway games, watched a circus act (handstanding...she was awesome), took a cab back to Excal. We were starving when we got back, so we ate burgers and chili cheese fries at Johnny Rockets. Went to bed early -- still adjusting from east coast time and tired from the drive (and the drinks!)

December 10th - Woke up early (damn east coast time!) and walked around Excalibur, Luxor and Mandalay Bay before anyone was really awake. Drove to Rebel by MGM Grand (just barely off the strip) and bought cheap gas station coffees, Bud Light Strawberitas and cigs -- $7 a pack sure beats $12 at the casino. Came back to the room and napped for a bit. Then, I woke up and worked on the computer for a little while. Showered and dressed, went downstairs, played the slots. Drove to Sunset Station, where I had 2 free breakfast/lunch buffets from MyVegas. It was pretty good for free. Gambled a little bit there, then headed back to Excal. Gambled some more at Excalibur, then went up to the room to get showered and ready for the fight at the Cosmopolitan. We had tickets for the Paige Van Zant fight, so we took a cab to the Cosmo. The fights were awesome! My hubby is the big UFC fan in the house, but I like it, too. Seeing it in person was amazing. Paying $18 for a rather small vodka and Red Bull was NOT amazing, though. After the fight, we came back to Excalibur, went upstairs and got a huge bucket of Popeye's, then came back to the room to pig out.

December 11th - We woke up early yet again and went to Santa Fe Station for yet another free breakfast/lunch buffet from MyVegas. Most people wouldn't do all that, but we love driving around and found it fun. Breakfast was so-so here. We gambled, and I spilled my vodka-cranberry everywhere before I'd ever had a sip of it (I was sober....honestly!! Just clumsy!). We walked the strip and did a little bit of shopping when we got back to the strip. Then, we played the slots for a few hours, then went back to the room and drank a little bit. For dinner, we went to the Steakhouse at Camelot. I had a $50 off of $100 purchase voucher via MyVegas, so we ate like Kings (true to our last name!) for only $80. He had a caesar salad, and I had the French onion soup (to die for!) We also had the artichoke dip (so-so...meh) and two Porterhouse steaks and stuffed baked potatoes (rodeo special). It was pretty much the best meal ever, and we passed out like stuffed pigs when we went back to the room.

December 12th - We went to Palace Station, where I had yet ANOTHER free MyVegas reward. Their Feast Buffet was pretty good -- hello Oreo pancakes! -- and I also picked up a free T-shirt from the gift shop (thanks again, MyVegas!). Afterward, we went to the Shark Reef Aquarium (yet another MyVegas reward). I thought it was fun but probably would have been disappointed if we would have paid full price. We played the slots in Mandalay Bay for a while, then in the Luxor for a little bit, then back in Excalibur. We went back to the room for a little bit, then hit In-N-Out Burger right off the strip for dinner. Honestly, we weren't that impressed at all, but it was okay. After that, we drove downtown and went to the Mob Museum. It was really interesting! When we left, we drove around Fremont Street and kinda got lost (on purpose) on the surrounding streets. We went back to Excal and played the slots a little more. I went upstairs and bought Krispy Kreme donuts (and yet another refill of my Big Chill drink!) Once again, we went to bed early.

December 13th - This morning, we actually woke up kind of late. We went to Rebel again and got cheap gas station coffees, then came back to the room and ate donuts. We watched the football game (Our beloved Panthers won yet again! 13-0, baby!), then went downstairs to play on the slots for a little bit. We then went to the MGM Grand Buffet (yet another MyVegas reward!), which I was a bit disappointed with. It was OK, but I probably would have been royally disappointed and slightly pissed if I would have paid the $60 that it was supposed to cost. Most of the food was mediocre, and the service was horrible. Afterward, we played slots. I found someone else's mLife card and searched everywhere for an attendant but couldn't find one, so I asked the cocktail waitress what to do. She said to just leave it on a machine, which I thought was kinda crappy advice -- I would have hoped an employee would have returned my card to the mLife desk or something if someone turned it in. Anyway, we left and actually went on this long drive around Vegas (which I may or may not have brought certain beverages along for while my 100 percent sober husband was driving, but I ain't admitting nothin'!!) -- including North Las Vegas, which has some random bank that has AWESOME views of the city -- and came back on the I-15. We went to Terrible's, where I bought affordably-priced drinks and smokes. Now, we are back in the hotel -- hubby is watching some movie on Netflix (or Hulu or something), and I'm over here typing for you guys!

Tomorrow is our last full day here -- we are leaving on Tuesday morning -- and we have a lot planned. We're going to check out the Forum Shops at Caesars, the Botanical Gardens, the Flamingos, etc. Oh yeah, and I have one last MyVegas reward to redeem -- 2 free dinner buffets at Mandalay Bay.

On Tuesday, we will be leaving and driving to Moab, Utah. Then, we are spending the 16th and 17th in Denver. We're spending the 18th in Salina, Kansas, the 19th in St. Louis, the 20th in Louisville, the 21st in a random town in West Virginia and will be arriving back home on the 22nd.

Sorry if this post is long-winded or if it doesn't make sense! It's Vegas, baby, and I've had (more than) a few drinks! :) :) :)

    btw...Can I live here?

Looks like you have got a lot in so far and are having a good time! And utilizing a lot of those myVegas rewards! Oreo pancakes sound particularly interesting to me!

As for the abandoned mlife card, it's pretty standard to just leave on the machine for awhile. Either the player will come back to the machine to retrieve it, or they will go get a reprint. They will just destroy abandoned ones. I left one of my Margaritaville Total Rewards cards behind in Tunica this weekend. Dammit!

Nice road trip. Thanks for posting.

As mentioned cards are left all the time in machines. No one returns them to the desk. When they sober up the next morning, :drunk: they just go get a new one. The card is useless without a pin number.

Nice report and reading a road trip report is great. Yep, the cards get reprinted. In the casino I work at if someone gives us a card they found, we take them and then when the person is not in sight we trash then

Thanks for sharing. It's about 9 hrs from where I live in NC to friends and family in Nashville and Mt. Juliet. We travel similar paths.
This is quite the road trip you're undertaking. Can't wait to hear your final full day exploits.

Great road trip!!! It is my dream to drive cross country to Vegas. I wish someday I have a free month to do it. I think it is awesome to see the country that way!!! Have a safe drive home.
