    IN PROCESS TRIP REPORT!

Ok, this is going to be added to as I am in town, and let everyone have a feeling like they are on this trip with us.

I live in So. California and have been to Vegas 100+ times. The last few years I have averaged only 5 or 6 trips a year, I used to go more often. I live only about 2 hours 45 minutes away from Vegas, and 20 minutes from Ontario Int’l Airport. Even though it’s a 45 minute flight, if you include the wait time, and check in, and waiting for bags, and taxi’s its faster for me to drive to Vegas than fly. So that’s what I do.

We left Cucamonga about 9am and headed to heaven. We made good time and at noon we were pulling into Ricardo’s on Decatur and Flamingo. Ricardo’s has been a favorite stop for years, especially at the old one at Eastern and Trop, but this one is the only one left. Food was good and authentic as usual, since we live in So Cal and go to Mexico often, we eat Mexican a lot, and never get tired of it.

We jump in the car and hit the liquor store for some Goose, and Beam for the room and snacks, and head to MGM. We valet and the bellman gets our bags quickly. We go to check in and I go to VIP check in. I sit down at the desk, and they bring us some water and get our keys and head through the backdoor to the Skyloft Elevators. I am not a Skyloft guest this time, but still sneak into those all the time, and off to the room we go.

We check into a Celeb Suite with an adjoining 2 Q room and call for our bags. The rooms definitely are showing there age. While I was checking in, my daughter went up to 13 to see the remodeled rooms. Now she says there are even more. Later I went down and saw for myself. It was the room in 300 corridor right after the Queen bungalow, and a maid was working on it. More Go like. Dark and Grey with a Flat screen in a brown wood cabinet hugging the wall with a desk, and a sort of cabinet over the window ledge with drawers. They moved the door to the bathroom to where the closet was, so I have no idea what happened to the bathroom. More to follow- I hope.

After making some cocktails, we head down for some gaming. I play some VP at the bar near check in, and hit 4 Aces for $800 right off the bat. I play a system, and only had $4 in at this time, not 5, but its ok, cause it’s TAX FREE! With my new found luck, I move to craps, then across to NYNY. I lose most of that $800 and head back to the room, to change and go to the pool. We hit the lazy river and WOW has the crowd changed. The Wet Republic has affected it I think. The average age was probably 23, and WOW there are some beautiful girls. It’s like a pool club. The bumping techno music caused me a headache and instead of staying for 2-3 hours until we are herded out, I could only last an hour. I hope it’s not a sign of things to come.

After cleaning up we head down to SeaBlue and have a great dinner. I then go back to the tables and with a little up and down, a guy on the craps table has a great roll, and I get my bank roll back, and up about $500. So now I’m up and make my way over to NYNY, EX and Luxor without anything happening, and end up at Mandalay. They have a great band playing so I sit at the bar when a seat opened and listen and played for a lot longer than I thought. I remember being at the bar about 9pm, and now after many drinks, shots and fun, its 2:00. YIKES. I got blasted. I ended up taxiing back to MGM and crashed. After a quick calculation, I am down about $700 so not such a good turn of events.

    SUNDAY-

Woke up about 8am and showered and took a lot of aspirin. Ordered some coffee and basic breakfast and napped. Finally got moving about 10am and went on a Strip walk. I ended up staying at City Center most of the day, with some success at the craps table, and hitting a good string at VP (Double Double Bonus) and made it back to the room about 5 with my original bank roll. Good day!!! I brought my mom and daughter up, as my dad passed in March, and mom has been home bound. Decided to treat her a bit. So I called for a bottle of champagne to be sent to the room, and after a few glasses, called Exec for a limo and got Mom and daughter out for a Strip tour and a GREAT DINNER at SW Steakhouse. I had the Chile Rib eye and my mom a filet, daughter as well. All the sides were to die for, AuGratin potatoes, and asparagus, etc. Great service too! Love this place!
Ended up going over to Palazzo and Venetian played a bit, lost, and ended up taking a taxi back to the MGM. I was fat, full and happy, and after ordering some desserts and opening the Grand Manier in the room, we ordered a movie and called it a night. Very relaxing. Before I knew it, it was 1:20am and I gotta get some sleep.

    MONDAY-

Could not wake up, and it’s now 10:30am and just had some coffee and danish’s from room service and getting ready for the river. More to follow - - - -

Exciting read so far, classy touch with the strip tour and champagne.

Sorry for the delay- Forgot to mention I brought my mom, who has not been to Vegas in 10 years or so, and who is recently widowed (my dad died in March). So my patience were at a heightened state. I could not wake up today, Monday was a blurrrr. Ended up staying at the Lazy River until about 5 and had 3 refillable 32oz mugs of various slushy goodness. Of course I added some rum to it, because they are pretty weak. After burning my forehead and forearms and licking my wounds, we went to dinner at Palm. We taxi’d to Caesars and walked through the casino and observed construction in the Forum Casino. NO I said, they appear to be doing some work on the side. They better not be remodeling. Dinner at Palm was great as always. We had Israel on the patio and he was great. I ordered the 4lb lobster for 2 and a 12oz Filet for my daughter. The Asparagus was steamed, but could have used more. Other than that the Lobster bisque was great as always and our meal was very good. A bottle of wine ran us $45 so the bill was $225 or so, a bit pricey but well worth it. We walked through the shops, and ended up buying a micro laptop at the Sony Store for my daughter. Hers was the little Acer One and it was about a year and a half old and in need of more memory and what not and this little Sony looks awesome. Anyway, we head to Mirage, and while my Mom and daughter cruised around, I played some VP at the bar in the front. I really quickly hit 4 Jacks for $250 and backed it up with another, so dinner was covered and I was on a roll!!! We taxi’d back to MGM and I began hunting. With 7 &7’s flowing, I played with limited results until about 4am. When it was all said and done, I was up about $400.

TUESDAY- I woke up at 9:30 and headed to McDonalds for a quick bite and got a spot at the lazy river for the day. My mom and daughter got room service, and said it was not as good as usual. Dried out potatoes, sausage, bacon and pancakes and eggs down they joined me about noon. We enjoyed the scenery (lots of hotties) and the river until about 4, and now I am not tan, I am LOBSTER! After a nap and cleaning up we headed for the taxi line, when I ended up grabing a Bell Trans limo for a ride to Maggianno’s. $55 down and ready to eat, we have a seat in near the bar for our 30 minute wait. For a chain restaurant, which I normally don’t like, this place I think is great! We were seated at a window seat and Jason was the server. He was awesome. We had a bottle of some dark red wine, the name escapes me, and had the Minestrone (off the menu) and baked Ziti and sausage all around. The half orders are still so big, and only $13 is a real deal! My daughter told someone it was my birthday, which it was 2 weeks ago, and Jason brought over a cheese cake with a Birthday Chocolate card in it. Really cool. We added a 3 scoop Spimoni and some coffee and relaxed a bit taking in the sites. I was pretty tired by now, stuffed and happy, but of course we could not go back to the room. So we walked down to TI, then Mirage and watched the volcano. That never gets old, and the revamped explosions really bring the heat. It was probably 93 and then blasts of fire made it really, really hot We then walked down to Bellagio for the fountains. The girls were tired, so I took them across to Paris for taxi ride and I stayed out. Ended up playing a little at Paris and losing, and the same at Bally’s so went to Barbary Bills for some craps. The tables were packed, and fun as always. I played for quite a while, and some guys had some really good rolls. I lost track as to if I was up or down, but I know I cashed in $500 to start, and $200 more later but not exactly sure how much I had when I left, cause I was pretty smashed. I made my way to Flamingo to grab a taxi, but stopped off for some VP and dropped a couple hundred before leaving. I should have just left before playing, but whatever, IT’s VEGAS!

WEDNESDAY- What a surprise. I went to the Lazy River this morning? Slept till about 10 and ordered room service which was better I was told, for me it was not so hot, but filled me up and helped me straighten out for the day lounging. Apparently, I told my daughter we could get a cabana the night before (do not recall that) but followed through, and after breakfast went to the river and was given Cabana 4. We settled in and got some cold waters and the TV set to ESPN and after sitting on the soft padded lounger I promptly fell asleep. Luckily I had a hat on and shirt so I did not steam (back to the Lobster comment). After waking, swimming and sleeping some more it was already 4 and I was feeling AWESOME! The girls stayed until 6, and I went back to the room to clean up, and head to Luxor for an offer I booked for 3 free nights in one room, and 2 nights in an adjoining room to get us until Saturday. Having not stayed at Luxor in 14 years, and not really looking forward to it, I walked over to see Tropicana’s renovations. All I can say is it’s “Under Constructionâ€. Yes the pool is open, and the grounds near the West side are open, but that’s it! The East side is closed off, dead and overgrown and looks terrible. The West side grounds grass is a mix mash of types, heights, thickness’s and the planter beds are unmanicured. It looks like an old school park. Not nice at all. The pool looks about the same as the old one, but everything is STARK WHITE but clean looking. The Casino is a mess, and needs a lot of time to get going. I just walked around and went to the Mob Exhibit preview center. Apparenlty opening in December they will have Mob history artifacts and such. It was pretty neat, as long as the price was right. They did not know the cost it was going to be yet, apparently.

Walked over to Excalibur and stopped at Dicks. I don’t know why I like this place but I do. Argued with the bartender to turn off the Judge Judy and put on some baseball and ordered a ½ bucket of Shrimp Coctail and a pretzel. Waiting for those items, I commented on the bad music and it took for ever for them to move the TV. They seemed to be in bad moods and cranky (more than usual). It turned out the party in the main room had a bunch of little kids, and the parents were getting mad at the comments and writing on peoples hats. One server came over by me and vented “why do you bring little kids here and then complain what is said to the adultsâ€. Good point I thought. The kids started throwing things, and the F-bomb started flowing. It was a shock to say the least. The parents got pissed and took the kids out and then asked to talk to a manager. The manager basically laughed at them and called them stupid which after a few moments, the parents admitted it was a mistake and bad idea. They seemed to leave on a good note as the servers went and thanked the kids for coming, and said you only act like this when you’re here and it was an act, etc. All I know is don’t take little kids here!

I spent about an hour and then went to some craps where Excalibur took my stash and licking my wounds headed to Player Checkin at Luxor. While the main line was very long, no one was in this line. I was going to see if I could get a players deluxe room with the mini bar and what not but did not need to. I explained about the second room, the second and third night and she explained I have a players deluxe and the adjoining room ready to go. Just come down in on Thursday for the second room’s keys. I headed to the West Tower and after the maze by the pools, went to the room. What a pleasant surprise. I like the colors and the room had new carpet. I sat by the window and enjoyed the view a bit. Very nice. Really a surprise. Did I say I was surprised? Cause I have seen the pyramid room a few times over the year and they are horrendous. These were not bad. The flat screen was nice and the bathroom was as well. After talking to my daughter and mom, mom decided she’d spend the night in this room, and packed her stuff and got to the valet and drove over with her stuff. She settled in and we went to dinner at RM at Mandalay Bay. (I just realized it’s 11am on Thursday and I need to get moving) more to follow-

THURSDAY- Ok after writing a bit, we grabbed a bite and some coffee at Starbucks and headed to the CBS preview. My daughter and I saw a show with Tom Selleck called Blue Bloods a NYPD blue type. Kinda lame in our opinion & William Shatner in a comedy where he is an opinionated retired military grouch with a 20 something son who moves in with him. It was pretty funny, his acting was bad, similar to Charlie Sheen on 2 ½ men. But it will probably do well. We then dropped our slip off at the Bell Desk and headed to Valet. We went to Luxor to check into the second room. I went to Invited Guests and saw the same old hag from yesterday. She said the room she had next door for me was now not available and would I mind moving to adjoining rooms. I thought what a hassle, for something so simple, but before I could even ponder, she said, “it would be across the hall and I can get you into a suiteâ€. YES came out very quickly. So she handed us 6 keys (3 to each room) and in about 1 minute headed to the tunnel to the West Tower Elevators. We got to our room, and then went across the hall, it was a nice 1 bedroom, a small living room and flatscreen, then a separate bedroom and a large bath with Jacuzzi tub, and we had a 2 Double Bed room adjoining. They were not as nice and updated but I always like extra space. After relaxing in the room, getting the luggage sent up and setting the bar up I have a few pops and go to the pool, where my mom has been since 11am. This too surprised me, it was not just a hole in the ground. It was really hot and muggy today so only stayed about 2 hours, and cleaned up and went down to play. I bounced from bar to bar donating some funds until I hit the bar next to the small sports book. I was only in about 10 minutes and on my second drink and nice conversation with the bartender and hit 4 Aces with a 2. $2000!!!! Slipped the bartender a $100 and she brought 3 shots over, one of each bourbon she had (that was a discussion we were having). After filling out paperwork and getting a W2G I then hit another 4 Jacks and a quick $250 backup! Help pay the taxes I thought.

I get the call “We’re hungry†so we meet at the hallway and go to Chin Chin at NYNY. I wish they still had the Adios Mongolian but I move on. We get the Kung Pao Shrimp and Orange Chicken and fried rice and some cocktails. Service was fine, they seemed to be mad or angry at a manager or something, lots of grumbling. The girls go to Coke and MGM, and then back to the room, and I stay and play and listen to the pianos at the bar and hit another 4 of a kind, and go on a quick roll hitting nothing but Full Houses, and three and four of a kinds for about 10 minutes, and turn the $100 I started with to a quick $585 when I cashed out. I took that to the craps table and bought in for $300. It was a $10 min and played my three numbers. I played for close to an hour, bought in for another $200 and then played until after midnight, and lots of beverages later stumbled back to Luxor. When morning came I realized I was probably back to even on the $500 or so. Hard to tell, but I know I did not lose. All in all a good day!! Off to the pool.

FRIDAY- Wednesday night my mom realized she left her pocketbook in the MGM and after a couple calls to MGM security I had to speak to a Supervisor because they said we physically had to come back for them to even look in the safe. Luckily the supervisor looked in the safe, and there was no pocketbook. My moms check book and some credit cards were now missing. I told her not to freak and we’d go by Thursday, but I forgot. So this morning I called lost and found at MGM, and BOOM, the pocketbook got turned in and we could come get it. So after a couple hours at the pool, went back to MGM to get her pocket book (which had the 2 visa’s and checks intact) and then back to CBS. We saw a show called Freaky Eating. About addictions to food. Basically a guy addicted to Pizza, ate nothing but Pizza for 3 years, and the family is worried. It was ok. As I was taking the post show quiz I was approached to return for a panel discussion about 2 and go more indepth on this show since this day was the first showing. I declined. Then the lady went back, called someone and came back and offered $80 to return at 2. I said ok, but knew it was like a 30% chance. She took down my vital info and we left to eat. We went to Emerils for a forgettable lunch. My mom had the Mahi Mahi which was dry, and I had the Pan “Medallions of fish and Blue Shrimp and Jumbalayaâ€. It was like Gordans Fisherman went to Red Lobster. I only ate ½ as did my mom. My daughter had the Kobe burger and it was good she said. The waitress was nice enough to take my moms meal off the bill for our unhappiness, so for taking the $25 off I gave her a 25% tip on the original amount so she made out as well. I’d rather her see the money then the crappy company.

We taxi to Mandalay Bay, where they are going to do the Shark Reef and I hit the tables/machines. I played VP at the bar at the Sports Book and always love this spot. Played for about 2 hours, and with no real big wins, but left about even. Went to the craps table and bought in for $500. That was quickly gone, and bought in for another $500. WOW, my luck had changed. My mom and daughter came by and I was down about $300 when WAMMO! A couple guy got on a great roll, and playing my 3 numbers, got my $800 back and about $400 on top, with some BIG RED calls, and some C&E’s. I love that feeling from going down, to up so quick. It was great.

I caught up with them at the yogurt place by House of Blues and grabbed some frozen goodness and walked back to the room. I stopped in for an appointment at Art of Shaving and made it for 9am Sat.

We end up hanging out in the room until about 7 got dressed up in my suit which I don’t normally wear in Vegas and I called Executive again for a ride to Lawry’s. The girls got gussied up and we head out. My mom used to go with my dad (and she says me, but I was too young I think) when it was in LA, so we did another strip tour, but traffic was bad today so the ride just went to Desert Inn, and then down Paradise to Lawrys where there was an hour wait. We get a seat in the bar area, and it’s only about 30 minutes and we are seated. We each got the Prime Rib and got Yorkshire Pudding and Mashed Potato. It was great! We taxi’d back to Luxor and the girls went to the room. I went back to the bar near the sportsbook and got some beverages going, and played some VP with no big sweeps and then moved back to the craps table. Bought in for $500 which I made last until 1am. I was pretty tired and went back to the room. I woke up this morning about 9:30 and we order coffee and juice and some fruit from room service. I am done now with this and gotta checkout, it’s 12:30. We are heading to Peppermill to see my favorite waitress Jennifer and hit the road. Should be home by 6 or so. Another great trip, don’t want to leave, but you don’t leave Vegas on a Sunday for LA. So we gotta move!!! Thanks for reading. Can’t wait for my next trip late August. Maybe I will see if I can get a deal here, instead of 3 more at MGM. OH, I spoke to a MGM bellman who had been there since they opened in 1993 and he says they are starting a complete remodel in December for $180MM in all the rooms! It’s due! We will see . . . .

Agreed, Dick's is not for kids. Thanks for all the nice comments, we had a good time. I did not get to watch any bands at Carnival or at Mandalay which I really wanted to do, but short of that it was fun. Cant wait to go back! T-27
