Youngest Oscar Winner at the time.
( Who is the youngest now ?)
    Didn't Anne Bancroft get a win or nomination,too ?

I can't help but think her acting career got sidetracked
    from her mental disorder.
I remember hearing stories about how
much trouble she was on sets ---
this was before she came public about her illness.

I did watch "The Patty Duke Show" sometimes.
But I think her movie career had dried up by then.

    To this day -
I've referenced "The Miracle Worker" with my wife - pertaining
to our 4 yr old son --
He was running around the room - instead of sitting down + eating -- grabbing food from a plate --
I said to my wife "I'm not The Miracle Worker here !....The kid needs to sit down !" :evillaugh

Watched the Patty Duke Show religiously. She was hot stuff to a young teen.

Remembering Patty Duke makes me realize that my twilight years have finally arrived. May she rest in peace.

I think Tatum O'Neill was the youngest Oscar winner.

I can't remember why I walked into a room but I remember the entire theme song.

Her performance as Helen Keller was brilliant. RIP.

Patty Duke was AT THE TIME, which was a least a decade earlier. We watched the Miracle Worker at least twice in school. I wonder if they still show it to schoolkids. I was shocked when her full story came out. She went through a lot and its amazing she survived it.

If I remember correctly, she also starred in a tv version as the teacher to Melissa Gilbert's Helen Keller.

    Good Luck!
