Any peep from Carl Ichan and the Fontainbleau project? He must be a happy boy, I read somewhere that it's 70% complete.

I can't speak for the Riv, but based upon my experience with the closing of O'Sheas a few years ago, they weren't in a hurry to push people out before noon. As a matter of fact, somewhere I have video of the closing of O'Sheas, and although they were closing the tables at noon, for some reasons they were still dealing hands at a few tables as I was walking past on my way out the door. The Riv is bigger and has a lot more going on, I suspect it will be a longer process to flush everyone out. What do you do when somebody is still in their room at noon? It's gonna take a while to empty the property of patrons.

I plan to stop in about 9:00 a.m. Monday. The Flamingo is pretty much the last remaining "classic". Some would also count Caesars. I certainly understand why it didn't make it but I'm sad nevertheless.

If you're going, go by Sunday

Here's what I heard from a VERY reliable source... Tables are going to close at "date roll" (Approx. 3:00AM) Sunday night. The slots will begin being closed and "dropped" around the same time as well. By 9:00AM the place will probably be pretty quiet. Its basically being kept open until noon to let APA (Big poolplayers group) checkout. The food court will probably be open as they are independent operators but the other restaurants and bars may already be closed.

If you want to truly enjoy it, swing in Sunday night. It will be a more festive atmosphere. Plus they've been running crazy drink specials for the last few weeks... $2.00 for drinks (some call brands)
    $3.00 Beer + shot
    $4.00 Double shots

I'll be there sometime this week/weekend to watch my buddy compete in the pool tourney... may steer clear of the Strip on Saturday but I don't think the fight traffic will get that far North.

You may be spot on, although I'd be surprised. I'd rather hear it from the Riv employee than an anonymous source, but that's just me.

I know that Kevin Nash played Oz. Did you know that another character he played was a hood named, Vinnie Vegas? It's true!

You may want to consider it's someone claiming to be an employee at The Riv. Someone, who of course, wishes to remain anonymous.

It makes sense to me that they would close it down over a period of several hours rather than having it all operate at 100% until noon. I'd like to play craps there one more time so I may go Sunday night as well as stopping by late morning Monday.

    fair point

I plan to be there both Sunday evening and Monday morning. A major casino/hotel is far different than a small casino with fast food restaurants and a tattoo parlor, but when O'Sheas closed, it was all systems go until noon, with the exception of the fast food places. They had stopped selling food prior to noon.

There's no chance they have every last patron out of the place at noon. Somebody is going to want to stay in their room until noon, or is going to be slow packing up. Perhaps they don't open the pool on Monday morning, perhaps they do shut off banks of slots... I'm not sure why that would be so advantageous. It's not as if they'll turn off the lights, lock the doors and walk away at 1 p.m.

The big party may be Sunday night, but plenty of people will want to be there until noon on Monday. Not sure why they'd want to not celebrate the legacy by letting the air out of the balloons before noon, but you all know better than I do when it comes to these matters.

Thinking back to the closing of the Frontier, most everything was still going and they had a definite cut-off and march-out at midnight. There were a few "out of service" banks of slot machines and a few tables were closed. I remember one table being used for photos and other memorabilia. During the last hour the back bar ran out of Bud Light bottles and the bartender just put a number of various bottles of what they had on the bar and sold them rather informally for a few $$$ each.
