I put in for a vacation day from work ( this past Tuesday ) about 2 weeks ago.
I was going to play golf since I was "daddy day care" all weekend +
    couldn't play then.
EVERYTHING was shaping up nicely........weather forecast was perfect --
    I had 2 babysitters lined up ( as usual ) - so i could play........and I didn't bother
to tell the wife ( ahead of time !!!! ).
There is always a reason that I shouldn't play = if I mention it in advance !
    *
I walk outta the bathroom at midnight to go to bed ---
thinking of how nice a day I'll have in a few hours..........?
    *
    Wife says to me :
"our babysitter just text me....she is not showing tomorrow....there was
a 'drive by' in her complex. A guy was shot to death and the cops have locked
the place down......she's not showing up tomorrow morning.....you'll have to
call in sick from work + babysit."
    *
A drive by ?.........in my new "gentrified / artsy- fartsy / everyone from the big city moving here"....town ?
    A DRIVE BY ?
    WTF ?
    *
And then, the 2nd babysitter calls up + says they can't move their car because of the crime scene.
    *
    UGH.......?.........
How 'bout a cab ?......it's just across town ?....damn, twentysomethings /babysitters !
Damn, fools with guns....gangbangin' fools.......stupid fools taking a life ?....prison bound fools !
    *
I gotta teach my 4 yr old son how to golf.......or drive a cart ?
    *
    A drive by ?
    WTF ?

What time was the babysitter supposed to show up?
Parking lot may have been 'unlocked' by morning.

Just curious about this. You arrange vacation at work and don't tell your wife that you are off and going golfing?

    Joe -
    It's one day from work - a "vacation day" = ( I have earned 25 per year, now )
My parent scheduling doesn't allow for a week off at a time - so
    I take a day here...and there.
    I omit.
I don't lie to my wife..........I omit telling her.........still in touch by cellphone.
I arrive home by noon, after golf.......I tell the babysitter "your lucky day - if you wanna leave, early ?"
As I stated -- when I tell my wife in advance about a Golf Day --- there ALWAYS seems to appear
a problem later + then I have to cancel my golf......ALWAYS.
    I ain't doing THAT no more !

Both babysitters are 20 yrs old.
They have other part time jobs.
I just think they sometimes prefer missing a day of work for ANY reason possible.
Either one could have taken an easy + low cost cab = 5 mins away.
    I didn't press the point......why bother ?
I try to think BACK to that mindset....20 yr old with a part time job......where a job + responsibilities may have not
have been as important to me, either ?

As you said, teach the kid to play golf and drive the cart. Before you know it, he'll be smoking cigars and drinking beer from the can like a cool guy.

I think the 20 year olds just want sex.

I grew up with super-golfer parents. I can't remember a Saturday morning that I wasn't dragged along to one golf course or another. Sometimes mom would even let me putt if nobody was behind us. Never did get to drive the cart though. :(

    Yes -
But she called ( my wife ) and stated "I won't be there, today."
I'm not gonna call her back + press the issue.
Whatever the reason ?...she didn't want to come in.

    Sonya -
    You were a "Golf Brat" !!!! ????ha-ha !
I want my son to know how to drive ( a cart would be a nice start ) -
    at an early age.
I was behind the wheel of a car - driving at age 12.
Yeh...that's real young.....but would have been handy in an emergency.
Sorta like swimming at an early age.

My uncle let me drive a tractor at 10, but no golf carts. Yeah, I grew up a total golf-brat. My dad was involved at USGA as long as I can remember, rules committee, executive committee, etc. If I wanted to spend Father's Day with him I had to do it at The Open. ;)

I cancelled golf trips to Quebec, Vegas and Puget Sound owing to an acute illness and subsequent death.

Enjoy every moment of every day that you are on this side of the dirt!

Have your mail forwarded to the pro shop/Golf course..:D Say the mail delivery is still out-of-whack to your street,so this is the most secure place you know of...And it may take a few hours to go over a week's worth of mail..25 vaca days =once a week..;)
