    My Trip Report

Without boring you with the second by second details - I'll give you the highlights and lowlights of the trip......

    April 16-

Arrival into the Mecca, late at night. After my friend, Pat and I have our ritual first dinner at Binion's coffee shop, we head to Four Queens. I'm on a nickel machine, playing VP...after hitting three oaks within 15 minutes, I then hit my first royal flush!!!! 4000 nickels = $200 bucks!!! Yowzers! This is going to be a hot trip!! LOL!!!

April 17 (and my birthday too) -

After only a few hours of sleep, I head to the poker room at Binion's. Only seat open is 4/8 Omaha H/L - I'm there!!! I love Omaha, and while I can win Omaha tourneys - cash games have left me high and dry everytime. $80 gone!

That night, we head to Terrible's - what a terrible idea that was! This casino sucks all around! Machines are tight and the buffet tasted like left over dog food! Uck!! And this was my birthday too! Not fair! We made up for it by having a piece of cheesecake at Binion's coffeeshop (delicious).

    April 18 -

After losing a little more at Binion's poker room (what is going on with the river card lately??? and the turn card too, for that matter???), we head to Laughlin. Beautiful ride - the mountains were breathtaking. For those of you who live out west and are used to these giant wonders - you will never appreciate them like those of us who come from the flat lands! Beautiful, awesome, incredible sites! And Laughlin wasn't so bad either - We stopped at Colorado Belle - nice casino and the buffet was excellent! Everything was fresh and delicious! I played a little $2/6 spread hold em - interesting spread - with a kill too. Came out about $100 ahead! Yippeeeee!!!!

    April 19 -

During the day, I played some more poker - up/down/up/down - stayed about even that day. At night - had dinner at Main Street Station - good food. Not excellent, but good. Then we went to a few casinos - Treasure Island, Circus Circus, Slots of Fun - somewhere in our trip through these casinos, I lost my jacket! Poof! Hopefully, they give it to some poor homeless woman on the streets.... Later on that night, we end up back at Binion's - and I forced myself to try a martini for the first time in my life!! Yuck!!!!! That martini was quickly replaced with my old time favorite of gin and juice....yummmmmmy!! Oh, and while sitting there, played some quarter VP - got another four of kind!!!!

    April 20th -

I get into the 2 PM $10,000 guaranteed poker tourney at Binion's. 101 peeps in the race.......I'm doing quite well - made a few magnificent folds. Then - the hand that I'm still mulling over comes up...I'm in second position w/ AKo - the big blind is on the chip leader, who, incidentally, is LOADED with chips. I decide to smooth call....fold, fold, ALL IN, fold, fold, and now the big blind - he calls the ALL IN. I look down at that AK one more time (maybe the K turned into an Ace). I think for a minute - and fold. Flop comes A 6 5 X X, ALL IN has nothing and BIG BLIND and BIG CHIP LEADER has JJ. I would have won that hand and tripled up! I also would've ended up at the final table....Damnit!!! Anyways, I ended up going out at 16th and it paid 12. The final table chopped the winnings - each getting $1000. Damnit again!!!

That night, we had dinner at Ellis Island - the steak dinner can't be beat for the price - and their cheesecake is to die for!!! Melts in your mouth!

Later that night, I played some more poker - went to bed about 1 AM - a young guy - maybe 23 or 24 - gets in the elevator. We chat on the way up - I get off on the 9th floor and head to my room, which is close to the elevator. He yells out "Hey, hey..." I come back around the corner and he says "I'm here for a long time...you want to?????" I'm shocked!!! He's my son's age, for God's sake!! I say "No thank you" and quickly go back to my room door.......I couldn't believe it!!!

    April 21st -

Early in the morning, I head down to the poker room - it's about 4 or 5 AM - The first two hands, I triple up going from $80 to $240 on a $3/6 limit table!! Wild players....This one guy sits down and says "I know you're not going to believe this...but I just learned how to play this game earlier today." We all roll our eyes in unison - we've heard this one before. After a few bets were made by Mr. Newbie, our suspicions were confirmed. He won a few hands...the last hand he played, he raised the turn and river - the guy next to me called him....Mr. Newbie had a suckie hand, but won with it - pairing his J on the board. Then, he had the balls to say, "Well, he (the guy next to me) didn't have anything anyways...he shouldn't have even been in that hand." The guy next to me gave me a peek at his cards - AQs - so, I piped in saying "He had a better hand than you....how the hell can you talk shit about his cards, when you're playing crap - and supposedly, you don't have a clue what you're doing!!" The others at the table chimed in - and Mr. Newbie quickly left....He really pissed me off!

Time to check out - got in a few hours more play before I left. Dropped my friend at her gate and went onto my gate and said "bye-bye" to the beautiful city with all her gorgeous mountains.... A long flight back - wasn't back in hot, humid Florida until 11 AM the next day....

All in all - it was a good trip -

Lost: about $800 and my jacket.
Found a great new spot: Laughlin, NV
Discovered: Lines from 23 year olds and newbies will get them nowhere quick!
Came back with: More great memories!

One comment - both my friend and I noticed that the machines are getting tighter and tighter - this year was incredible. We didn't see any huge wins around us, and, besides my royal, didn't get any huge winnings ourselves...has anyone else noticed this too?? My friend - an avid slot player - said she's writing the Chamber of Commerce and complaining about the tight slots - saying they will be a detriment to the tourists if they don't loosen up soon...

Congrats on the RF. Too bad you finished just out of the money in the tourney. Getting hit on by a 23 year old even if not welcome is still a boost to the ego.
