I was listening to all The Belmont hype on sports radio.
I got pumped up about it and saw an OTB joint.
I pulled in and put $25 down on Tonelist to win (sp?)
I knew no one was gonna win that Triple crown --
    it's just too diffulcult.

    Anyway,
My OTB ticket had Tonelist at 14 to 1.
I was REAL happy about that.
    Now,
let me explain - this is the first time I've ever bet at OTB.
I've only bet horses while in VEGAS.
    *
At the start of The Belmont I see Tonelist down to 11 to 1.
I'm still thinking "okay...it's still a good line."
Tonelist wins by a nose....and I'm HIGH FIVIN' with my 18 mos old son.
He's screamin' back to me "We WON !..We WON !"
    Funny as hell.:evillaugh:nworthy:

I cash the ticket at OTB --
and the counter woman puts the ticket thru the machine --
    she then counts out $240.
I look at my hand of cash and look at her --
    I say -
"Umm....I'm new at this OTB stuff.....but why is the payout so low ?"
She wants no part of me and walks away sayin' "Well, OTB gets there 7% cut --
they gotta make some money, you know...you don't get track prices here ."
    *
So somebody tell me what the hell happenned ?
    That's a $215 profit from my original $25 bet ---
    Okay....7% off the top........?.......STILL ?...where's my dough ?
The only thing I'm thinking is ---
    My odds went WAY DOWN.
Does OTB set their own odds ( probably always lower than at the track ) ?
That's the only thing I can think of ?

Tonalist paid $20.40 for the win (on a $2 wager). I have no idea about the commission amounts at the OTBs but yeah, I knew they took a cut

    ($20.40/$2)*$25*(1-0.07)=$237.15

Everyone shares in the odds. What state did you bet in?

Sounds about right. $240...Still better than losing. Better than driving to the track. Better than Moose and Rocco looking for you if you lost.
