    Trips to Las Vegas:
I'm updating the original thread started by vegasbound to make the information current.

    Parking garages:

In a town that caters to tourists, offering free parking is a must. Most hotels have free parking garages and the ones that don't will validate -- which seems like an inconvenience, but it's better than paying. Valet parking, which is offered at most hotels, is usually free, but tipping is highly recommended.

    CAT Bus: (702) 228-7433 or CAT-RIDE

Citizen Area Transit bus service has 40 routes throughout the Las Vegas Valley and Henderson. Exact change required. A 24-hour pass is available for $5; 30-day pass, $40. Children 5 and under are free. Strip routes run 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Strip & Downtown Express (SDX) and Deuce on the Strip (Effective September 30, 2012)
    2-Hour $6 - 24-Hour $8 - 3-Day $20 - 30-Day$65

Residential Routes (Effective September 30, 2012)
    Single $2 - 2-Hour $3 - 24-Hour $5 - 15-Day $34 - 30-Day $65

Routes 108 and 109 have direct access to the airport and stop outside the arrivals and baggage claim area. There is no direct CAT bus service from the airport to the Vegas Strip.

    Taxi Cabs:

Unlike many other cities, taxi’s cannot legally be flagged down. You can catch a taxi at the taxi stand at any hotel/casino usually near valet.

When you get in your taxi, you are going to want to tell the driver NOT to take the tunnel, or tell them to take Swenson Avenue. The tunnel may seem faster, but it is a much longer distance and can add $5-10 more to your fare. You want to avoid being "long-hauled" from the airport to your hotel. The exceptions to the tunnel rule are hotels Downtown, the North Strip (ie, Stratosphere ) and the hotels west of the freeway (Palms, Rio, Gold Coast, etc)

Quick question about the Strip & Downtown Express (SDX) and Deuce on the Strip, I am thinking about staying @ the Palace Station on my next visit and was wondering if the SDX could get me to the strip 24hrs a day? Is there a schedule on-line a could check out.

    Trips to Las Vegas:
Besides the 108 and 109, the WAX bus services the airport. The WAX serves the south end of the strip and downtown. From the airport, it will stop at LVB and Tropicana (stop between NYNY and Excalibur). From there, it gets on the highway to downtown where it makes 2-3 quick stops before Fremont street.

WAX is considered a residential route and the fare is only $2. There is a place in the front of the bus (behind the driver) for luggage. If you are traveling with smaller bags (carry-on size) this is a very good option for the south end of the strip (about a 5 minute ride) or downtown (15-20 minutes).

    Don't pay round trip

I believe it's 50 cents less to get picked up because of some airport fee on the way out, so there's really no savings. I never buy a round trip because they already have your money. I stay downtown and if they know they are getting more cash, I feel better knowing they will pick me up with the money not yet in their pockets!:nono:

Thanks for posting that useful info!
